How To replace Panasonic Beard Trimmer Battery ER224

The Panasonic ER224 Trimmer is fantastic all in one unit BUT the battery only lasts about 2 to 3 years. Rendering the unit only usable plugged into the wall BUT even that will only work for an extra 2 years. Once the internal battery burns out, it shorts the unit and the motor will no longer spin fast enough for proper use. I show you how to tear unit apart to replace the battery.

Awesome Video. Thank You! Saved a lot of time. Very happy to have my ER224 back :). One recommendation in the process, to avoid damaging the black rear shell; Skip removal at 2:59 to 3:30 and insert that segment after 4:00. This will give you access to all the black rear shell tabs, and it can be easily removed. Found a battery on Amazon, replacement model: CS-PRT300SL | Paid $15.

If you hear the trimmer's motor spinning but the blade doesn't move, you may have the problem I had. My battery is good (my model has NiMH rather than NiCd) but the motor had gotten misaligned from the flywheel/crank. At 7:47 see the metal cylinder inside the white plastic frame next to the motor? It needs to be pushed down firmly on the motor shaft until it snaps in place. If it's partway pulled off, the motor shaft will just spin around inside it without making the crank rotate. Thank you for this video. It helped me fix my trimmer.

Thanks for making this video. For anyone interested in doing this, the battery is 1.2v instead of 1.8v. Even though I ordered a new battery, I took the original battery out and charged it on my intellicharger and seemed to bring it back to life. If you're going to go to the trouble of opening it up anyway, that might be something to try before buying a new battery. I also had the issue of the vibrating metal rod not moving so I oiled the blades and smacked the body of the razor against the palm of my hand while it was running and it seemed to knock it back in place and runs like a champ now.

I have the same problem with the motor shaft. there is a piece that connects the motor shaft to the actual part that vibrates the actual blades and I just removed that piece and dropped a drop of super glue in it and put it back on the motor shaft and it dried in a second (super glue) and now it works. I'm still gonna take apart the blade apparatus and wd40/oil it so the glued part foesnt break but so far its working fine. its now september 2023 and I've only found one battery on ebay for the 224s unfortunately! but I'll probably buy it anyway and see if it fits!!!! I bought mine back around 2015 8 years ago so I'm not surprised this battery Is ki down hard to find

While this video is pretty good. There is a spring for the dial mechanism to lock it into each position. Long part with a "V" in the middle and 90 degrees bend at each end. When putting the trimmer back together. Put this in the plastic bracket on the left side of the main trimmer body before putting the adjustment mechanism back on. Then install the wheel parts back in place.

Thanks for the video! I wouldn't have been able to figure out how to take this trimmer apart myself. It's like a puzzle. The battery is still good on mine, but the blades stopped moving, even though you could still hear the motor. It turns out that the metal output "gear" that gets pressed onto the motor shaft became loose over time, and the motor shaft was just spinning inside this "gear". It's not really a gear - it's a small block of metal that has an offset pin to produce the linear back and forth motion of the blades from the rotational motion of the motor. To fix the loose shaft, I just cut a small narrow piece of heavy duty aluminum foil (about the width of the shaft hole in the output "gear" and about 5mm long), placed it over the hole, then pressed the motor shaft back into the hole. If you don't have heavy duty aluminum foil, you can use two strips of regular aluminum foil, or whatever else you can successfully wedge into the hole alongside the shaft. You may also want to de-grease the end of the motor shaft before you press it back into the hole. I just put a few drops of isopropyl alcohol onto a paper towel, and turned on the motor while pinching the paper towel onto the shaft. After pressing the output "gear" back onto the motor shaft you will want to turn the motor on while holding the "gear" to test how strong the wedged fit is.

By any chance did you take any photos showing what you are describing?
@thinkmore7575
@thinkmore7575 Год назад
that's a nice fix!!!!! I put a drop of super glue into the "gear" thing that fits onto the motor shaft and so far it's holding up but I hate using anything permanent that leaves a mark so if it comes loose again I'll try the foil hack!!!!

Thank you for this video. I replaced the battery and also rinsed the entire enclosement and soaked it in barbicide. Now it looks good as new and the trimmer sounds like a beast once again. I can't wait to trim my hair. One thing though the only battery replacement I found was on eBay and it was not cheap, almost $30. But I love this trimmer and don't really want to use anything else so I bought the battery anyway. If anyone has found a cheaper replacement please let us know.

Could you tell me battery specs so I could search online? Also, w my trimmer, not even the red charging light turns on when I connect it to a plug. Is that because the battery is dead? Thanks a lot for the video!

Just replace mine (it's 10yo). It uses a typical 1.2V NiMH rechargeable battery. Anyone of this kind will just do fine. Simply put a coil or anything appropriate at the end to connect the battery to the metal plates (you can bend the metal plate at the end a bit). Glue it so that it won't move.

This may help with disassembly cutecamcase.com/images/er224b.jpg The trimer does work if you bend the tabs in and use a 1.5v AA battery, you do need to use a rechargeable AA battery

I asm pretty handy but that looks like a lot of tedious work. I found complete new units online for $29.95 with free shipping. Every so often the removable silver comb breaks and I have to spend 8 bucks to replace it. So, here I get the new battery and silver comb with a new shaver for $30. The problem with my current shaver is the pin that shakes the blade back and forth gets stuck and hums without moving. I have to keep pulling the top blade/plastic section off and push the pin around. As soon as I add the shaver blade back it stalls again. This is also how I break the comb from taking it on and off again. If you know how to free up that pin let me know.

@alittlelionfish
@alittlelionfish 4 года назад
@@bsmith5309 Any AA 1.2V NiMH rechargeable battery will do. Just bend the metal plates a little and glue it firmly. Remember to place the positive pole of the battery towards the bottom end of the trimmer. Another note is: Remove the front covers (the grey and silver ones) before the back plate (the black one). It will be easier and won't break it.

These units work amazingly. But they stopping making them. Most of the new ones of so many attachments and adapters. Where this one had everything built in. Finding online is expensive per popularity of this unit. But replacement battery is cheap, give you another 3 to 5 years of GREAT use. If you owned a ER224, you'd understand. Thank you for watching & comment
