Awesome, thanks so much. I just worked on a friend's car that someone replaced the shoes on but never adjusted them and also assembled the self-adjusters wrong. It confused me a lot since I had not done this in years. Your video was a tremendous help!
The 2003-2004 Dakotas have disc brake rears. Drums came on the 2002 and older. One thing that confused me is the wheel cylinder is different. I have a 2002 Dakota 4x4, with 11" brakes and the wheel cylinders have pushrods instead of the shoe fitting inside. Is that a 9" brake on that 2002 Dakota in the video?
great vid, but 10:12 is a cheat. you put the little plate on the bottom, and the next frame magically has the spring over the top of it. how was that spring installed?
The video says 1997 to 2004 Dakota. I have a 2004 Dakota but it has drum and disc at the same time in the rear! I have never seen something like that, maybe because I have had just 6 to 8 vehicles my whole life. I'm trying to replace the rear disc/drum or whatever you want to name it. When I went to the auto parts store and I mentioned it has both disc and drums at the same time they look at me like are you stupid or you don't know what you're saying.
Some rears are actually disc brakes with a small drum as a parking brake. Refer to the factory manual. Look at this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7L4AIGaAfD4.html. It shows a 2003 with a rear set up as you describe. It is a rear DISC with a small E-brake (drum) in the middle of the rotor. I believe this is what you have.
