If you incorrectly thought it was the front brakes, then moved to check the rear brakes, make sure to DISENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE before removing the disc drum combo rotor! Dont ask how I know.

Minor thing, appears you didn't orient the rotor so the parking brake adjuster was accessible. Would require you to remove the rotor and re-orient if you needed to adjust the parking brake.

What about those 2 springs that go into the pads to help hold the bads away from the rotor? didn't see them in vid...

Is it not necessary to replace the brake shoes?
@racer72
@racer72 2 года назад
The shoes are for the parking brake. Unless someone has been driving the vehicle a lot with the parking brake on, these should last the life of the vehicle.

+Dave Meyers We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com

if the pads are scratching the rotors one possibility could be they are not flush with it. if you never replaced calipers and brackets on your 2008 car one reason could be rust buildup under the clips that prevents the clips from sitting properly and the pads from moving freely. Make sure to clean it very well with a file, not just a wire brush. after installation the pads need to move freely and smoothly inside the caliper bracket.

Not in detail for many . Which side are you on ! Which side do you unscrew ? And so on.
@racer72
@racer72 2 года назад
Noticed a couple things. I have never got the rear rotor off without backing off the parking brake shoes. This will be especially true if the car has been driven with the parking brake on. I also coat the flat of the hub and the hub flange with a thin coat of high temp grease such as wheel bearing grease. Whoever takes the rotor off the next time will sure appreciate it.

Don’t ever spray brake cleaner down the guide pin boot; it’ll swell the rubber boot making water and debris entering and corrosion will occur and premature brake pad wear.
@riteskills
@riteskills 3 года назад
did this yesterday... they do mention the rust build-up under the clips, but greatly underestimate it. There was so much rust build-up where the clips sit that it took me half hour of heavy filing to clean it up. You can't do it with just a wire brush. The old rear pads were in pristine condition simply because they got stuck in the caliper bracket pushed by the rust. So much for my mechanic's work.. when you want something done - diy great vid, thanks!

You don’t need the brake pad indicator clips, they are a suggested thing, if you do general maintenance on your car then just check brake fluid level. When it gets low your breaks are typically getting close to due, or you have a leak. Both should be checked

Two M8 - 1.25 bolts should be used to loosen the rotor from the hub if it is stuck.

OK thanks this may sound nuts but in another video when doing fronts they said to take the cap off the brake fluid container as this will avoid any air or pressure in the brake line....thank Vin I will advise.
