The differential Pinion Flange is part of the universal joint that connects the drive shaft to the rear differential. Years of water and salt could rust or seize the flange, or cause other problems. This video shows you how to install a new TRQ differential pinion flange on your 2000-08 GMC Yukon.

Do you have any videos on doing the pinion bearing repair on a 1990 K series or its equal?

Odd, seal did not look like it was leaking. Why else would it be replaced? Very well done video, thank you.

do you really have to remove the brake calipers and rotors? Seems like you could include the rotational resistance of the brake parts since the final preload spec you aim for is a spec you measure yourself. I ask because the Haynes manual only mentions removing the wheels when changing the pinion seal

You don’t need to remove the tires or brakes . To me this is just a way for shops to charge more for a job that should only take a half hour

I was just going to ask the same question. I couldn't see the point of removing the brakes.

It seems that he was replacing rotors at the same time. It didn't really matter about the preload because he didn't even have a dial torque wrench to properly measure it to begin with. I have my 10 bolt tore down right now to install a yukon dura grip and the measured preload without the carrier was 5 inch pounds and 14 with the carrier on a 200 thousand mile rear end.

@@joshsmith2982 You are incorrect. A good mechanic knows his physics and a good car geek knows that this same rear may be used on hundreds of different vehicles all with different axles and different brake rotors that take more iniertia to spin. The Rotor is an inertial variable in all those different vehicles. Rather than do a new calculation for each new size or mass of rotor they might make, the mfg correctly gives one spec for the rear with no rotors on it. They also give a spec for the rear with no axles in it, which is actually, th4e proper way to do it. If he was following spec exactly, he would have pulled the axles and the carrier and taken a measurement prior to disassembly. he would have then reassembled it 3- 5 inch pounds tighter and he would have used GM yoke sealant. The practical way to do it in the field is to yank the rotors as they increase the diameter of the mass to be moved when taking the measurement, which requires more effort. You want your 3-5 lb increase to be done relative to the smaller number you get with rotors off. With calipers on, proper replacement can not be accurately measured, with rotors on, you could if you had them lugged down, but you would lose accuracy.

Wouldn't counting the number of turns when removing the old bolt be better?
@96cr
@96cr 3 года назад
My uncle does it that way he usually adds another 1/8th turn to the number removed

Not in this instance. He is replacing the flange and the nut both and he is disturbing the bed of sealant inside of the yoke. When he reassembles it with new parts, he has three new variables: Flange, Nut, and sealant os the old marks may or may not be helpful

Rookie question coming up. If remove the shaft like in the video does the vehicle disengage from the transmission? My driveway is a bit of an incline I don't want to get runover lol

And when I blew my pinion gear I'm probably guaranteed I should change my ring gear because it's got some pretty nice little gouges even if they're like 2 mil 2 mm gouges and ring gear it's still got some good gouges in it so I'm going to have to go with change the pinion and the ring gear so they're both smooth so therefore I didn't mark them I'm just going to knock it out put it back in thank you for everything you do boss

So my mechanic told me that my driveshaft has play towards the rear end. Will replacing this part fix that shaft play?
@BrokenRRT
@BrokenRRT 3 года назад
Does it make a clunk sound when you put it in and out of gear from park to drive? If so it could just be bad u-joints. Cheap and easy repair. You’ll need to replace both front and rear u- joints on the rear drive shaft. Less than $30.00 in parts for both u-joints. If your rear pinion gear is not leaking it’s not the seal like shown in the video.
