Started at 3pm on my 1998 chevy camaro and finished just now at 11:44PM. Great video, for some reason it always turns into a full-day project!

The washers that come on the shocks are Belleville washers. They are on there to aid in shock absorption at the bolt/bushing mounting surface. They do apply a load to the fastener so basically they work as a locking washer while also extending the life of the mounting bolt.

It’s a little different on a convertible. Fold backseat down and there is a cutout in the carpet behind the seat on each side (which you may have to further cut with a box cutter). Once the cutout is moved you pull the foam out of the recessed area and the top of the shock is accessible.

Roger that, I’ve never messed with a convertible, thanks for the info! Maybe it will help someone here in the comments if they are doing a vert. And they were contemplating doing this job! Thanks again! 👍👍

I just did this same thing with those very shocks. I found the bushings up top squeaked when I was done, so I took them off and greased them with silicone grease. Squeak is gone. I reused my spacer washer on the bottom for better alignment of the shock to the axle. Love the Koni's they have a better ride than the KYB's I had before.

All you had to do was fold down the back seat and expose that foam insert under the carpet flap and there is the top of the shock. You took apart extra that was not necessary. Unless you just wanted the extra room... Anyway that's what I did on my 98 Transam.

very good video I have a 99ws6 135K miles original rear shocks 1. when I hit the tinyist bump I feel the body botton out, I must be riding on springs only, haven't bounced the rear yet to test the shocks they must be shot BC there's quite a bit of oil residue on outside of shock just like yours. 2.I'm stock ride hieght still can't clear even medium speed bumps, plan to replace w/ a stock length. so what exactly is a carbon shock? from what I understand there a difference between WS6 shocks & regular TAs. 3.w/ 135K on the clock mostly expressway cruising probably 40K on bumpy city roads should I concider rear springs, or can they be tested? 4.will replacing just the rear shocks have any effect on handling w/ the original struts? 5.car is a street car I do like a smooth ride over a harsh ride, I wouldn't say the stock shocks are smooth. please recommend a smooth shock that won't effect handling but smoother than stock. thanks

Does this lower your car or just improves the smoothness?
@Naturalgearhead
@Naturalgearhead Год назад
My shocks were wore out….just replaces old….doesn’t lower the car at all….you need lowering springs if you want to lower it

Those koni shocks are garbage. Mines only lasted a week. So i bought a pair of bilstein shocks then problem solved. and smooth like a baby's butt
