I watched a number of videos on replacing awnings showing various means and methods. I keep coming back to your video and will be following your example when I change my 16 foot awning out in a few days. Was by far the best instructions and most enjoyable to view. Enjoyed the scenery as well.
My wife and I (seniors) followed your instructions and had perfect success. The first time I might add. It was a hot day so a couple breaks were needed. It took us 3 hrs with breaks. Only difference, I took both R & L spring assemblies out to lubricant. I noticed a little surface rust. My let’s me sleep inside again. Ps. There was satisfaction in cutting it off.
Good morning to you Tim!!! Thanks for having a video on out for us all in You tube land !!! I think I am either going to write another book or just keep on going on live streams for myself !!! I love to do awnings !!! Done those a lot in the past few 6 months to help some people on out !!! Take care of yourselves down there !!!
Thank you so much for making this video! I’m certain I saved hundreds of dollars installing mine myself. This was a very good step by step how-to and I followed almost all of it by memory. I forgot the lubricant and remembered afterwards 😅 Thank you again!
That was an awesome tutorial my friend! I have an RV and always wondered if I had to replace the awning if I could do it! Now I have full confidence that I can!
For me it was the double count on winding the spring back up. I think between 11 and 12?!? Funny little detail, but great video! I’m doing mine this week and you’ve helped me troubleshoot some obvious headaches before I start. Thanks for a great video!!
Good morning Tim. We have never had to replace ours, thank goodness. You did a great job explaining step by step. If we ever do, we will come back to watch your video again. The new awning is very nice. Have a great day
Excellent video very informative will be installing my new awning in about a week, your installation instructions out of all videos I have looked at is the best big time!!!
Watched many videos this by far the best one. Some small differences between the awning we bought but this video gave us the confidence to tackle ourselves. Thanks so much for sharing your experience.
This is an excellent tutorial video. However, my camper is just like the one in the video, but it was much more difficult to accomplish than what you just watched. Just buckle up and get ready for it to be a lot harder than it looks. Feeding the material through the slots is very laborious (despite having loaded up my slots with lubricating oil )…much more than the example. His tracks must have been in VERY good condition, and yours probably won’t be.
Awesome video my wife and I replaced the awning together. Following your video step by step. easy to follow clean and clear . Thank you . Not everything on u tube works this well.
@@RidgeLife Getting ready to do a 2007 pioneer....25RL.... Fleetwood for 1st time.... Water damage front and back...on floors...more so on backside across.... Pulled out couch and am amazed at how poor the manufacturing is.... Pitiful...
Thanks so much for your time and great DIY video. I’ve been procrastinating doing this but with your video will do it this weekend! Thanks to your helper too, best regards!
He never showed reattaching the bracket to the RV. The one with the 3/8" screws. No big deal, I figured it out. Otherwise, Awesome ! I also noticed the drill bit break and the wrong count on the wind up, but still the easiest method so far. Also, I'm thinking the " Food Grade " silicone spray might dry up into a gooey mess. I think the regular silicone spray might be better. Not sure, but just a thought. Great job !!!
I have to roll my awning up and down by hand (16' Coleman Lantern 16FB). I think the spring is the problem. Do you have a video on spring repair/replacement?? This is an excellent video.
So - an upright pulled out from the side of my camper as i was leaving my house for a trip, as a result i had to cut the awning and the whole to get it off the camper so we could leave, and when i did the whole thing rolled up in a fury. How can i go about re-winding that thing before replacing the awning?
Wish you would have put your address so I could have dropped mine off at your house. 😂 You had the best video overall, but this project about caused a divorce.. 😅 sware it wasn't windy until I started putting the new one on.. gotter done, but wished I would have just bought a new camper instead.😊
Tip to prevent or greatly delay the rolled-up awning from prematurely tearing up: It usually deteriorates from Sun / UV damage. The Sun is a tough weapon. Get any water based latex paint and when the awning is rolled up against the RV, paint that area of it that is exposed to the Sun. Give it a couple of thin coats. White or a light color is better. Will probably have to do this every year or two to keep it from deteriorating prematurely. Doing something like 303 spray has to be done every 60 days, and still isn't as tough as the thicker latex paint sunblock.
Soooo. I thought I could do it without locking the other side... SNAKE BITE! 😂😂 Now I don't know the number of turns and not sure if I can get it at the right tension with the new awning. 😢
I have a 2006 Forest Hills trailer that has a Dematic awning that was built during a two year window when they didn't put the locking holes on the side opposite the locking mechanism. Do I have to now remove the tension on both springs in order to change the fabric?
Thought we were going to have to replace the entire awning assembly but came across your video and saves us at least $1K! Let the marital squabbling begin ;P !!
Good video. I ended up confused regarding which grove the front fabric slides into. You did clearly say that the white cord you were sliding in was for the valance, but that just didn't register with me for whatever reason. I'm sure it was obvious to many viewers, but it turned out it wasn't for me. I though it should be the A groove and that the valence would flip forward over the tube and the cord pressed in to finish the process. What I understand now is that the front sleeve with the cord inside should slide through the V groove and that cord that gets pressed in goes in the A groove. The way I initially had it would have resulted in basically having no valance at all.
great video but you should rewatch your counting at the 20:00 mark. You missed one revolution because you accidentally said 10 and 11 for only one revolution.
Is it necessary to pin the other end with a screw driver since you aren’t removing it from the mount? I only ask because my screw driver fell out half way through the project and I just continued as normal and it all seemed to work out. Not sure if I lost spring tension on that end or not but either way it’s working.
Is it just me but is the awning in a different groove than the original? When the end cap was being secured with the rivets, I think I saw the “A” on the tube next to the slot with nothing in it. Did I miss a step along the way?
Enjoyed this Tim. Our poor old awning is going to have to have the complete setup. Nick misjudged a tree limb.😬 You made that look so easy . Great job TIM. 👍
Future reference: tools needed 1 pop rivet gun 3/16 rivets 2 saw horses, 1/4 3/8 7/16 wrenches or impact gun, a nail punch 4" screw driver, tape measure, lubricant 《food grade》large vice grips , sharpie to mark cap, For easy match up when puttingit back together. Razor knife, file, hammer, punch. ,5/32 drill bit, mark V valance A awning P for pull cord to help put new ones in place
I personally found this video extremely helpful. Thank you. We used this video as a reference for changing our awning, and it was invaluable. We had no idea where to begin. Our awning replacement didn't come with instructions!! Nothing. Just the components. Again, thanks for the help.
Nice video and nice camper. It definitely helps if you can get an extra helper. I didnt have that option so i just replaced mine by myself. I skipped the disassembly and removal of the springs. It wasnt bad at all. I made a short video of it.
Great Video! Question you marked A- awing P- pull cord V- valance at 18:24 you appear to put the new canopy in the A slot however at 20:29 the A was empty when you put the new awing in - what happened?
@@RidgeLife That was my question, clearly at 20:29 there is nothing in the groove marked "A"?????? Great video though but what happened??? You've got to solve this mystery 😁
Good afternoon Tim. I’m a little late today. We never had to replace ours but you make it look easy. Thank you for sharing. Have a good weekend. Take care❤️
Hey this is great. I’m dealing with an awning that got ripped off. My only problem is before I watched this is I didn’t know to stick a screwdriver on one end. And then I hit the retract button and it made that crazy wind up sound. Can I still follow your video steps or do I need to take it in and have someone unwind it before then I start your process? Thanks!
I have to replace my TPO top and that includes removing all the outer trims and the fabric away from the edge. From looking at this I will need to remove and let the whole awning rest down on something too or slide the top of it out?Any other videos or information on how to remove the canopy so I can replace the TPO.Thanks
