I could swear I heard 40 mm tool lol but saw 14 when I paused it. Great clear video as always, watched this so I knew what size to bring to the salvage yard, thanks!
The Serpentine diagram really helped put it back together. Without the diagram I would have probably spent hours trying different combinations. So again thank you for the diagram and how to loosen the tensioner. Removing the compressor after unscrewing it from the engine is like passing a baby through a narrow birth canal, I spent two hours trying different orientations and moving the steering fluid tubing out of the way was not that easy (I guess I am not aggressive enough). Finally just before resorting to cesarean I was able to pull it out by rotating it 90 degrees clockwise. Inserting the new one was pretty easy. The AC now is working perfect.
I checked and my car, 98 nissan altima, has 1 drive belt. Mechanic was wanting to replace power steering/AC belt too at same time. He just didn't clarify so it confused me. But new question on same topic: he admitted to pushing the alternator too far back and it touched metal and blew the alternator fuse under the hood. We replaced. Wouldn't the alternator fuse under the cabin also need replacing?
Nice job. Thank you for mentioning to rotate the compressor to remove it out of location because this is an issue I was concerned about. What type of lubricant / grease do you use on the o-rings?
My labor book doesn't cover this year for Nissan and I don't know how much time to charge the customer for this job (a pulley r&r). Would you say that this is a 1 man hour job? Thanks -Edmond
Yes alternator is fine, although when he replaced the fuse it made the check engine lamp light come on. Guess a trip to advance auto to have them turn off code.
For stuff like this I purchased one of these diagnostic tools. It's just under $15, but saves you a trip (or a few). It is also very handy is you get check engine and your car won't drive to Advance AutoParts.... :) www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=as_li_qf_sp_sr_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=dp051-20&keywords=Obd2 diagnostic tool&index=aps&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=xm2&linkId=465f1ea2102be489960d56ad0e5e2ff3

DIY-time thanks! I'm installing a new compressor at the moment. Do you know how much pag oil should be added in a new compressor and also is PAG 100 ok to use?
Not sure how much. My manual says drain oil from old compressor, measure how much it was and add the same amount of new fresh oil to the new compressor.
@@DIYtime thank you your video will definitely help me change out these parts. When I start my vehicle from a cold start it starts making a scratching squealing type of noise so I'm going to try to change out the belt and the tensioner before I think it's something worse
OK. I just wanted to see if I could get your professional advise on removing it the best / easiest way after all the bolts and cables are disconnected. I saw a video here on youtube and the technician was struggling to remove it. I know you would be able to get it out easily. I don't want to remove the motor mounts. I think I can just remove (or move) the wiper fluie resivoir. Thoughts>? Thank you.
those old altimas with the 2.4l have a belt for the alternator and water pump and one for the a/c. I have a 1998 frontier with the 2.4l I have 3 belts because I have a mechanical fan.
I bought a service and repair manual for may car a while back, and it had all the instructions and diagrams. I think replacing belt on your car might be much more complicated since 6-cylinder engines are larger.
AutoZone has the diagram here: www.autozone.com/repairguides/Nissan-Car-Altima-Sentra-1999-06/Engine-Mechanical-Components/Accessory-Drive-Belts/_/P-0996b43f80381f09
