How to replace string trimmer edger line

Adam, Thank you so very much for showing us how to remove the string reel. I had almost given up on it. Your excellent video camera work showed so very clearly how to remove it. I followed your directions exactly and was able to remove it with absolutely no trouble. After replacing the string, I immediately went outside and successfully weeded a rather difficult patch of grass. Thanks! I bought my trimmer used for a couple of bucks and hoped I would find easy instructions to replace the trimmer line. One tip: I tried to wind the cord too tight and put too much on the spool. It didn't save me time, just the opposite. Thanks for the helpful video!

Thank you very much for your very helpful video. I asked 3 neighbours to help me remove the empty reel housing. All twisted, turned, pulled on the thing and I thought they'd break it. I found your video on youtube and had the empty casing removed in seconds. Due to feeding wild birds, the birdseeds grew green stuff which is now 5 feet high and therefore need the weedwacker to trim it. Thanks again for posting your video online. Great for those like me who have 2 left hands.

Thank you! Being in the UK mine is a different make, but looks exactly the same - I suspect it came out of the same factory in China as yours. My manual gave no instructions on changing the line so I was at a bit of a loss, but you've shown that it's really simple. Thanks again.

My trimmer is a different brand but it did work pretty much like yours and watching you gave the the know-how to change the spool and it worked first try. Thank you!

Thanks. I have been buying the pre-made spools, but it is expensive. It doesn't say how much is on the spool, so I can't get a real picture of how much I am saving when I rewind the spool myself. I am assuming I would be saving something, and the task of rewinding is not that complicated, so thanks to your video, I am off to Home Depot to buy the big roll of string. Thanks again.

Glad to see so many others were having trouble with this. I felt like the world's biggest idiot struggling to put my new spool on until I saw this video. That's why I'm no handyman😄

good video. one extra comment I'd like to add is: trim the line first before it's fed into the spool. let the force of string to be released easily.

i bought a scotts trimmer from a harbour freight outlet the summer of 2017 i have been hitting and missing with trying to rethread that spool.ive looked at several post and this the one that was simple and to the point after two years. sad on my part lol but glad to get the the string to finally stay on the spool. thanks

Thank you for this video with simplified instructions on how to do this. it makes me rather proud that I CAN do this myself; with your help, of course. I would like to point out that I was going to purchase a thicker spline, but the guy at Home Depot advised against it stating that it might burn out the motor? Can you elaborate on this? The one I bought uses both a battery and electrical cord option when the battery is on the charger. Thanks!

Thanks Adam. This was perfect. My trimmer is a Toro, but it has the same exact setup as yours.

I used to buy those odd shaped trimmer lines that claims better cutting but it just gave me a headache with frequent lines getting stuck in the spool and not feed correctly. The best is the round line trimmer which hardly gets stuck. I also up'd the thickness so it wouldn't disintegrate as fast when it's cutting

So I did this, and it worked, and then I came back later and the tension in the line had caused it to kind of unspool a bit and pull the line back into the spool. Did I do something wrong? How do I prevent this? Thanks.
