man, I miss the old Samsungs with removable batteries. How did we get here in the name of progress? Notches, sealed batteries, no expandable storage, no headphone jack, we are going backwards in terms of hardware.
Greed. Shareholders are greedy, they want increase, more more. Executives are greedy, they can remove options for users to reduce costs. Companies realise if they make it hard for laymen, they can earn more in servicing.
Yes I managed to replace the old battery in a very crude way like you did in the video, but I also managed to destroy the display in the process to remove it. So, my advice is: Make sure you buy a spare screen when you buy a new battery or take to a professional that has the right tools and experience to do it.
Yup, for sure, even as a confident electrical engineer I managed to put the smallest crack in the screen, and the display's dead. Also, it's best to test that the phone works before taping the display back on!
Thanks for the full length video. If only I would have been as patient as you, maybe I wouldn't have cracked the screen!. I used one of those thin plastic guitar pick things instead of cards, but that is too thick and strong. Yeah, dumb. It turns out that the screens aren't too expensive. My issue is a broken power button, but I was able to order the screen, button board, and battery for under $70. Still cheaper than a refurb Pixel. Hope it all goes back together.
Well i started my repair full of confidence after watching this and seeing the comments. Unfortunately my phone was at some point refurbished and they must have got glue onto the back of the LCD screen. When it came time to lift off the glass and screen i snapped it in half and that was all she wrote! Its now cheaper to buy a whole new google pixle 1 than just an LCD screen for the phone. Sad times.
Hello,i would ask you-my pixel need the battery change, and i found the same buttery to change as yours on the video-is this genuine, original buttery or no?where did you buy it,may i ask you, please!)
Hi, it is tricky to align the screen with the body of phone as this is a tight direct fit which you have to fit onto double sided glue tape, and you have one shot at it. Once the screen drops on the double sided tape, it stays and you can't move it anymore.
Not bad for a beginner but just at the beginning ,never use metal tweezers to unplug the lcd ribbon! Always the plastic tool! other than that Good Job!
Video lasts for 47 minutes. But the crucial part, when he lifts the first fragment of a screen is cut. Just a moment when the screen goes broken mostly is omitted.
@@SiBorg8A I shared that to try to prevent others from making the same mistake, but I'm glad to see that your self-esteem benefitted as well. How much do you charge for repairs? Maybe in the future, you can save me some money on stupid mistakes.
Nothing special. My old battery used to die out at 50 percent. Now that battery replaced not much difference except it dies at 0 percent. But no significance. This phone is just shit. Never buying Google phone again.
@@ms-cn8ww My Pixel is still fine after this long, runs well, but battery has degraded to 79%, contact Pixel Support in settings, they've been known to replace phones or give offers even after warranty has run out, maybe you'll get lucky.
I'm considering replacing the battery myself on my Pixel XL (it's degraded to 79%), batteries are $12.50 on fixez.com (link from jerryrigeverything's video) just buying a toolkit and battery would be about half the price sending the phone in to Google ($80), but I don't think it would be a good idea for me to attempt that without a spare screen, (which is $75 from the same website), so if I didn't get it perfectly, it's end up being more expensive to do it myself. I've taken apart some other electronics, but not something as delicate as a phone display, and never on a device I use daily. I'm pretty good at getting screen protectors and dbrand skins on phones and lining them up right (my fine motor skills seem to be capable), and I do watch every jerryrigeverything video, so I'm familiar with phone teardowns, just not personally. I want to for the experience, and this video makes me hopeful, but I don't really want to pay for messing up. I'm 15 and this is my main phone, should I try it?
It's more difficult than it seems, I would be more confident attempting it with the correct tools but I've broken a few displays of my own trying to do repairs with what I had lying around. I would suggest practicing on an old phone and sending the one you have for a battery replacement. The lesson I learned was the effort just isn't worth having a broken device over
I'm honestly just gonna have a electronics store (Best buy, Verizon, etc.) do this, cause if I mess up, these phones are now 2-3 thousand USD... Yeah. Edit: also, why does your phone boot up way faster than mine, and differently than mine?
Where/how are you getting $2-3K for these phones? Btw, when I called around no one was willing to work on these phones because of how they're designed.
hey so i just did this,i did pretty good, but i cracked my lcd.. so if the battery is my problem (which ive just switched) could it be the broken lcd that s causing my phone to still be blank? Anyone?
Hey girl ! My screen cracked also when trying to replace battery. Just to let you know this LCD screen is like a potato chip, it will crack even if you look at it the wrong way. If your screen is blank, it is cracked LCD causing the problem. Once this LCD cracks the phone will turn on, but screen will be blank. Your options is to buy new screen from eBay, which costs $48 us, $58 Canadian. This phone is purposly built this way, so you buy new phone with new plan every 2 years. After all, I am ready to throw this phone in garbage. For Future reference, when buying a new cellphone, or laptop or anything electronic, buy one with a REMOVABLE BATTERY, not built in, because now they make them like that so when you get new plan every 2 years, you have to get new phone too.
Where u located. I am in Canada. Now u are stuck with replacing the screen by yourself. Unless u go to repair shop, they charge $250 Canadian to replace screen on Google Pixel. Which is not worth it, because u can get a pixel for $150 online. When you buy new screen, good luck with putting it back on, mine did not stick on the sides and corners, as there is limited space on the sides for double sided tape. New screen will cost you $48 us or $58 Canadian.
