I have the same grease gun, purchased from Auto Zone. Video helps, I usually use vice grips. I will try your method, it looks easier. Thanks for making the video Sir!
Me too. The cartridge doesn't come out when I release the bottom handle (the T handle on the bottom of the grease gun). Instead, the plunger runs right through the cartridge and pushes a bit of grease up through the hole where the screw-on pump handle attaches. I think I have to stick a knife in the hole and pry the cartridge sideways enough to grab it with vice grips or a pair of pliars. Is that ok to do?
@@NoneMechanic101 I followed my own instructions, prying the lip of the old grease cartridge inward enough to stick the knife between the metal tube and the grease cartridge, then turning the knife inward again, cutting the cartridge all around, leaving bits of the cartridge exposed in order to grab the thing with vice grips. It was important to use a slender blade knife, otherwise I felt it might damage the metal tube. The cartridge was "locked" onto the tube more or less, but once the knife was inserted down into the tube, it was enough to unlock the thing. It came out easily after that.
If your old cartridge doesn't want to come out, do this: I followed my own instructions, prying the lip of the old grease cartridge inward with a knife, inward enough to stick the knife between the metal tube and the grease cartridge, then turning the knife inward again, cutting the cartridge all around, leaving bits of the cartridge exposed in order to grab the thing with vice grips. It was important to use a slender blade knife, otherwise I felt it might damage the metal tube. The cartridge was "locked" onto the tube more or less, but once the knife was inserted down into the tube, it was enough to unlock the thing. It came out easily after that. If you have a metal rim on the old grease cartridge, no problem, just cut the rim off completely, and then carefully insert your knife down into the grease gun tube between the tube and the cartridge. Then work it all around the cartridge. The deeper your knife goes into and around the outside of the old cartridge, the easier it'll be to pull out. Sticking your knife deep into the tube breaks the seal that holds it locked in place. Know what I mean?
