Welcome back!
In today's how to I will show you how to replace the brakes on both front and rear of a jaguar XE. This may also be the case for several cars as this braking system is a ford system and may well be commonly used elsewhere.
I have seen on various forums and Facebook posts of owners being quoted £4-600 pound for brake replacement. I had payed a total of £180 for all 4 discs and both sets of pads and only taking me around 1.5 hours including filming.
I hope this will help any owners wanting to tackle this job but maybe getting a little overwhelmed with the electronic parking brake etc, if this guide does help you then please smash that subscribe button as this will really help the channel grow.
if there is any more "How To's" that you may like me to undertake on the Jaguar let me know in the comments below.
P.s sorry about the wind noise!
Disclaimer you should always have a trained professional work on your car especially with something like brakes.

For anyone struggling to get the maintenance mode to work, it's important to get into the car, turn the ignition on, the handbrake OFF. Thennnnnn hold the EPB switch off for 2 seconds etc.... doing it with the handbrake ON didn't work for me. The handbrake would go off, but no service mode message. It's an important step that took me forever to figure out. I have a 2017 xe.

That's brilliant, thank you, I'll be doing mine this weekend. A handy tip I've used in the past is to zip-tie the caliper to the suspension spring while you work on the carrier and disc. This saves any accidental pulling on the break line.

With regards to maintenance mode as I think I said it little to fast in the video, this is the correct way of doing it this will work on every XE produced the sequence is as follows: Turn ignition on first. Hold EPB switch in "off" position for two seconds, then, keeping it pressed, floor the accelerator for two seconds. Holding both in the same position, toggle ignition off then on rapidly - EPB goes to "service" or "maintenance" mode. Turn ignition off and replace pads. To reset - do the same thing but holding the EPB switch in the "on" position. Hope this provides some clarity? Thanks for watching Jason

A good Gardner has a Green thumb, so I guess a good brake man had a Red one! lol good video. my 2 cents I like to give a pressure wash first, and use brake clean on the pistons before depressing them. and then a little grease on the slides for the pads to move freely. I have the same brakes on my 19 XF I painted them red in place when I got it now after watching you I will know what I am doing when I replace my pads thank you! from the USA!!!

Brilliant! Wish I'de known how to put my F Pace in service mode prior to doing my brakes. The alternative is manually releasing the P brake by turning on the ignition while holding down the brake pedal, pressing down the park brake switch, removing the wire from the park brake motor at the caliper, turning off the ignition and finally removing the caliper. After installing the new pads and rotor, the park brake motor is removed from the caliper, then the caliper piston splined shaft must be turned to full stop to allow pushing back of the piston. Once the piston has been pushed back, the p brake motor can be reinstalled to the caliper carrier.Lastly the p brake wire is reattached. So when I say brilliant, I'm not kidding. Thankfully, I won't be doing this again for a while, but look forward to making the job much easier.

For my 2018 North American F Pace and XE - the above works IF the parking brake is turned off first - so add FIRST: Turn on the ignition, engine off. Step on brake and simultaneously press the E brake release. Let go and take your foot off the brake pedal. Then start at step one above.

Procedure requires the vehicle in the Park or Neutral position, with the ignition turned ON (the engine must be OFF) and the parking brake system released. Press and hold the parking brake switch in the release position. Wait one second. Press and hold the accelerator pedal in the wide open throttle position. Wait one second. Set the ignition OFF and back ON immediately. Make sure that the ignition remains ON until the operation is fully completed.

Managed to sort the really tight slider bolts and bot them off. But have now run into a completely separate issue. The piston that was against pad has decided to disassemble itself. Which I imagine my service mode wasn't working properly? and the parking break decided to come back on? Metal part of the piston on the floor - break fluid dribbling out and ball bearing all over the floor. I feel like this is not a good thing. Fixable? Or a costly mistake?
@TrackAndBeyond
@TrackAndBeyond 8 месяцев назад
@@AL-wx3xs oh man that sucks!! It is fixable. First of all you need to see if the car is in service mode but if it’s not you can’t now put it in service mode as you shouldn’t press the brake pedal as brake fluid is going to shoot out! It’s almost a case of just putting the piston back in to the calliper but you need to make sure all deals etc are fine so it doesn’t leak break fluid. Not sure how comfortable I would be doing it if you haven’t done it before tho

Good morning, Sounds like a strange one are you 100% sure the parking brake was in service mode? If you’ve had to fight the pistons and now the hand brake is locked on it sounds like it was never in service mode. Literally just finished work driving home and my jags starting clicking when it hits a place turning right. Anyone else had this issue? I’m worried just bought this second hand 🥺

Have you got the 4 wheel drive version? Sounds like could be drive shaft clicking
@talhajovendah4107

dont you need to bleed the breaks?
@TrackAndBeyond
@TrackAndBeyond 9 месяцев назад
Only if you’ve changed the brake fluid or messed around with the brake lines/hoses. Standard disc and pad replacement no you don’t need to bleed anything

What's going wrong? I cannot get the damn thing into maintenance mode, despite following the instructions to the letter. Jag XE 2019/20. I do the steps carefully, it takes no notice at all!

It can be finicky keep trying

I've just spent half an hour on the phone to JLR, who deny that there is any such thing as service mode, and I should just go ahead and change the brakes!

@kevinmcbride7043 what?! No only the front you can change!

When you change on front, gearbox in what position must be? Parking or neutral?
@TrackAndBeyond
@TrackAndBeyond 3 года назад
My car is RWD. But I left it in Neutral to do the whole job whilst jacked up etc Jason

@@TrackAndBeyond Thank you for answer. I'm asking because never change on automatic car, so don't know what is the best practice, change many times on manual and usually when change on front, car in 1st gear with hand brake on. My car is XE 2016 2.0l diesel 180hp RWD. Nice video

Yea I think the dash as upgraded around that time to be fair they had better dash and the option of the larger pro screen around 2017 I think

@6axe1man5 3 года назад
@@TrackAndBeyond ahhhh ok.....mine doesn’t have the larger pro screen, which I was it did 😢 Had it a year now and only found out 2 days ago that the mirrors ARE power fold mirrors after slating them for not being power fold mirrors 🤫

Yea sadly wish I had the pro screen too. Oh nice! My jag is weird as it has a load of random options like I have the power boot that opens and closes itself but don’t have power cold mirrors 🤣🤷🏼‍♂️
