THANK YOU!! I DID IT!! 😄 I absolutely could not have done this without you!! I watched the video throughout the procedure and everything worked. The only difference is that the part is now $40. Ha!! I did not have to call a plumber, so I am happy!! I read the part was good for 5 years, so don't know about the lifetime warranty. But it's fixed, and I didn't have to wait on something to be delivered.

For the Ashton model like this one, call Delta, lifetime warranty. Stopper sink so you don't lose parts. The little orange slider on the cartridge adjusts hot water flow/anti scald. I want mine wide open for all the hot water I can get via handle adjustment. I bet many blame the water heater, when that valve is the culprit. BTW - that's why Delta went from the ball to the cartridge!

I priced one of these cartridges and was glad I did not have to buy a new one because the cartridge would have cost 50% of the cost of the Delta faucet I have had for 5 years now. All I had to do was to grease the ball and the seats it rides in with special Plumber's Grease which is available at Lowe's and Home Depot and most hardware stores. Just do not disassemble the cartridge anymore than necessary in order to get to the ball ( which attaches to the handle). More than likely the actual valve is in great shape still. The ball and seats just need to be wiped clean with a paper towel and the special grease applied. I just bought Silicone Plumber's Grease today and it is supposed to be waterproof, which, I hope, means longer lasting.

I would add that once you clean the inner threads at the bottom of the brass coloured locking tube that holds the cartridge in place with a stiff toothbrush and vinegar, then lube those inner threads with food grade silicone grease if you have, or just as good is a good coating with olive oil. And when you tighten that locking tube with a wrench, very little torque is needed. Just lightly snug is all you need.

I called them, told them the faucet was leaking, they asked for the model number, etc... and sent me a new on the in the mail for free. Arrived 3 days after I called. They also sent me a new head because it wasn't functioning as well as it should either. No receipts needed... just asked when I purchased it and the model number. I didn't know my model number as I got my faucet in 2012, so Just just google and found it on the internet, wrote it down, then called them. Viola! Thanks for the tutorial though!

Thanks for the great video. I have the same faucet and need to do the same job next week. I appreciate you doing this. Delta told me it is important to flush the lines underneath the sink before putting in the new cartridge. I have a bad back so getting under the sink is hard. Do you feel this is a necessary step to flush from underneath the sink or is the method you used sufficient?

Use the small straw that comes with the pb blaster or wd40 and spray some under the handle. Spray some into the set screw hole too. There is room, gently rock the handle back and forth. You’ll be able to work it out.

Thanks for this video!! It appears to provide all I need as a rank amateur to fix my leaking faucet. I'm about to tackle the cartridge repairs. In preparation I went searching for "Silicone grease". Harbor Freight? Don't have it. A local auto parts store seemed baffled by my request. However an employee, who claimed to be a "handyman", suggested "Synthetic Caliper Grease" and said that would "absolutely" do the job. When I read the package I see no mention of silicone as an ingredient. Also this comment on the package "waterproof formulation prevents against corrosion". QUESTION: Will the Caliper Grease suffice?
@MrV2u
@MrV2u 8 месяцев назад
I wouldn’t use caliper grease on something that is going to be in contact with your water. Go to Home Depot or Lowe’s and go to the section where they have the sink repair parts and it will be there. If not ask for it. Let me know how you make out or if you have any other questions brother. Good luck

@@MrV2u I have not yet taken anything apart. My experience as a handyman (generally poor) over MANY years has taught me to go slow. So I'm doing my research, gathering tools and supplies to deal with the "what if's" BEFORE I jump in. So I'll have it all when I start the job. I HATE having to make several trips to HD during the job. And in the case of my kitchen faucet, once I start the job I need to know I can finish it. I'm hoping that since I have very good City water that I'll have no issue with too much corrosion. If I do, I have what I need to deal with that or I can just use the brand new cartridge that Delta has sent me and toss the old one. Make sense to you Mr Vu?

@sidhartha4397
@sidhartha4397 Год назад
the bonnet nut and the cartridge can freeze up together. since the valve cartridge is plugged in at its bottom in two places, if the bonnet nut is forced, and the cartridge plugs break, you will be buying a new faucet. this is more of a pain than you would think, with many of these videos glossing over this problem completely. it is not mentioned that maybe the guy had to dismantle the faucet and soak it overnight in a container, to try to loosen the cartridge from the nut before attempting loosening the nut from the threads. even then no guarantee.
@MrV2u
@MrV2u Год назад
What you see in my video is exactly live. I don’t pre do anything to make it easier, and if it broke you would see it on the video. It is definitely possible for it to seize up and like you said soaking it overnight would help. Pb blaster, WD40 and or vinegar will dissolve the calcium/lime buildup and help when trying to bust the bonnet loose.

Why you not mention what the little orange switch is for???
@MrV2u
@MrV2u 3 года назад
The orange switch allows you to choose between "Cold & Hot" or "Cold & Warm". Some people don't want to have very hot water, so this switch limits the movement of the handle, not allowing it to move all the way into the Hot position. Hope this helps.
