In this video Teacher T Thailand shows you how to remove and replace your rear shocks on your Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650. A top upgrade to make. Let’s face it, the original rear shocks provide little comfort at all. Especially at high speed.

Suggestion for putting the bike on the center stand from a 5'8", 170# 70-year-old. Of course, proper footwear is important. This method utilizes the superior strength of your legs over your arms. #1, With bike on side stand, left hand on left grip, right hand on lifting handle with knuckles facing towards seat, right foot on center stand leg, foot facing forward and body facing forward. #2, While applying force with your right foot, stand bike vertical until both center stand feet are touching the pavement. #3, Exert pressure on the center stand with your right foot, while at the same time shifting your body weight rearward. Your right hand is not so much lifting the bike as it's providing an anchor point for your leg to push against.

Nice. Try putting a 5 to 100mm mat under your rear tyre also. Raises the bike enough to make the whole operation so much easier if you are on original length shocks.

Ordered these after your last video, very pleased the install video didn't take too long to come out. Well done Teacher! I saw a similar solution to the centre stand on another channel, very keen to see the belt drive video and your feedback on that mod. Gotta say that, while I would love to do that mod it's a little out of my budget.

Same Hagon Shocks as yours. I have just sent this to Hichcocks and I never received a key ring either. Dear Hichcocks, I have just received my order of Hagon rear shocks Super Meteor SM650 Thanks for speedy delivery. I do not have a clue how to adjust these for my bike and my rider weight of 100KG including no pillion and no luggage. There are little instructions if any. The Hagon leaflet refers me to the side of the box for Preload adjustment ie ……” For further information on this please refer to the twin shock twin adjustment on the side of the box”. Of which there is nothing. Damping I also have no clue or starting point for the setting. But it does inform which way to turn it unlike for the Preload which doesn’t let me see what it’s already set on as my standard shocks do at a glance. A little disappointing for an expensive item.

Hopefully you get a prompt response from Hitchcocks. Emailing Hagon direct is another solution. They are very responsive. You only have 3 preload settings using the spanner. Damper adjustment t with the Allen key. Hope you figure it out soon. 🙏

@@Teacher-T-Thailand here is itchy cocks reply 😜…..I am sorry that you think the Hagon instructions are somewhat lacking. I do agree that the instructions are limited, but there are only a couple of basic adjustments to be made and this needs to be fine-tuned to your favoured riding style. There is no standard here as it is not only the riders weight (and or passenger) that needs to be considered but every rider will have their own individual riding style that mean that what is good for one rider in not for the next. The leaflet refers to the side of the box, but Hagon have updated their boxes in the last few weeks and as you say, there is nothing on the side. However, this is also very basic, so probably not much help. I have attached a photo of the old box (2810 and 2820 follow the same adjustment). The Hagon 2820 has adjustable compression and rebound, which allows you to control the speed at which the shock absorbs and returns. You can adjust these setting using the 4mm Allen screw on the damper. I would try a ride with the bike as it is and then adjust this screw a few turns either way which should give you a noticeable difference so that you can feel your preferred set up. Once you know which way you prefer, you can find tune it in smaller turns. The spring preload is adjusted with the C spanner in the box. This is normally set on the softest setting and there are 2 harder settings. Adjusting this will give a harder ride and I would expect you to need this soft setting or the middle one.

Teacher T, i do like the belt drive system, and, plan to put that on the SM650 of mine! Will replace the rear ahocks without hesitation-I'm 5'10" tall with 30" inseam. Biggest reason is-I weigh 280lbs. Thank-you for the update on these 2 upgrades! Doug🏍️🎉👍🤓🇺🇸🦅

You are welcome Doug. I’m only 5’8’’ with an inside leg of 28’’. So I doubt you need the lowering version of the shock. But you certainly need preload set to 2 you big boy you 😂🙏

Unsure which setting to use for my Hagon shocks? The same ones you have but STD length. I rode it today with new shocks (Factory settings) as you say the difference is night and day wow. But the bump stop rubber was hard up to the top after the ride. Then I rode it back home (Forgot to reset the rubbers) this time I had the spring pressure up one notch in middle setting not sure I noticed a lot of difference maybe a bit harder. Now I’m unsure if I should keep it on 1 or 2 setting. I have not yet touched the damping and will probably leave that as it came. Thanks TT.
@Teacher-T-Thailand
@Teacher-T-Thailand 9 дней назад
The same thing happened to me. Setting 1 night and day. The cushion rubber was pushed to the top, but never felt it bottom out like the originals did constantly on bumps. When put on 2 the ride was stiffer, but the cushion runner never made it to the top. Yesterday I tried setting 3, as saddle bags fitted and wife as pillion. Far too hard a ride. Back to 2 I go. 1 was good, but after a few months they wore in I suppose. Hope that helps 🙏

@@Teacher-T-Thailand by the way if I were you I would get a piece of the centre stand cut out of the middle of each leg 20mm or what ever the lowering shocks were then re welded up. I had a friend who did that to his interceptor and it worked brilliantly. Obviously being under the bike the welds will be hidden and then painted black. First I would enquire how much it would cost at your local garage. Also a good subject for another video and the garage might let you film it. Or buy a welder and use an angle grinder with a cut off disc. Mr TT

@@Lostoldman I just carry a 25mm wedge in my panniers. Roll the back wheel onto it, and no problem to use the centre stand. And if I ever sell in the future (which I doubt) I can put standard length shocks back on if a taller person wants to buy 😂🙏

Ive just changed to Hagon shocks yesterday.....the ride still feels hard on setting 1. Not sure what to set damping to with the allen key
@Teacher-T-Thailand
@Teacher-T-Thailand 5 дней назад
If you turn the Allen key total one direction and then count the clicks back 7, that should put you in the middle of the damping range. Then play a couple of clicks in either direction until you are happy. If I recall correctly there are 14 different settings. Took me a while to dial it in 🙏

Hi there, the process is quite straight forward, thanks for showing us. However, I just have a query, the torque setting quoted, ie 13ft/lb seems very low. Is this a Royal Enfield spec? Cheers

Hi, I'm from Italy and I'm going to get a used Super Meteor in few days. Just a question on the new dampers, why did you choose the shorter (290) then standard (310)? Really thanks!
@Teacher-T-Thailand
@Teacher-T-Thailand 11 дней назад
I chose the shorter length to lower the bike, so that I could flat foot it instead of being on tip toes. If you have longer legs than 30 inch inside seam, then the standard 310mm choice will be fine 🙏
