THANK YOU so very much for sharing this. I'm a 55 yr old Grandfather who collects old broken down dolls for my granddaughters one day to share and pass on, and have found I enjoy maing them over. I had yet to take one from scratch (nude and bald) and needed to know how to reroot the hair and you made me very happy to feel confident enough to try it on my own. Thanks again :)
this is the only simple,easy, nice tutorial with including a small vinyl head! everywhere else I look , it's a giant reborn baby doll with no instructions or information on the tool. I'm very thankful for this video! thank you!!!♡
Additional helpful tips for anyone who may see this: - To remove the old hair plugs, I use needle-nose pliers (aka longnose.) Try to find a pair with an exceptionally skinny nose, they are a godsend. - It's a really good idea to paint your doll's scalp a color that matches the hair before you do any rooting. Any scalp that shows through won't be noticeable that way. Even if the doll didn't originally have a painted scalp (like the Sindy in the video,) the hair you root with may be a significantly finer/better quality than the original hair, and you may have scalp-showing issues where you didn't with the original hair. This is especially true for vintage and/or cheaper dolls, which tend to have been rooted with coarser hair.
Thanks for this video. I bought one of these tools awhile ago and couldn't figure out how to use it as the instructions that came with it were very hard to understand. Now I feel more confident to give it a go :)
It's just so interesting watching you do these. I personally would love to see you maybe do a complete re-root from start to finish from the first to last plug, glue it or what ever, and maybe a style afterward. it would be fascinating watching the whole thing happen.

I keep my strong PVA glue in an old hair dye bottle that has a tiny screw lid and a long nozzle... it’s great for all types of detail work and would work well here... x
Really helpfull thank you. I have a very well loved Posing Penny doll made in New Zealand in the 1960's and I have tried to wash the hair using all the tutorials but her hair is in desperate need of a total reroot. I now have the confidence to do this myself, thankyou!
Thank you so much. I found a large bag of flexable barbie dolls someone had thrown out, and you guessed it aALL of them need to be re haired. I don't have the hair tool, but, I think, I can make one using a wood handle, and a needle with a big eye, cut the center of the eye, so it is open at the end, this is very helpful ( again THANK YOU )
I think high quality synthetic hair is always the best way forward for rerooting, especially if you are just starting out but yes, you can use real human hair or any other natural fibres (mohair, alpaca etc) - even yarn or wool!

Like you said, "so simple and easy" I rerooted a custom cy girl head one time andit took me for ever. I use the long needle and knot. O my goodness. Hiya - saran can be a bit static / fly away - my best advice is to work with the hair damp, that way it is a little easier to work with :-) Other than saran, Nylon is my favourite type of hair to work with! x

No one really addresses this like I think it should be..Im still trying with no luck..Can you help me with this? What instruments do I use and what are they called and how? @roxusan I won't be getting any more in for a while I'm afraid, however, they are quite simple to make! Cut a needle eye at a 45 degree angle, file it down so there are no snaggy sharp bits and glue it into a dowelling rod (or even an old pencil) you are done :)

I don't mind helping if I can! Is it the glue that is proving the problem? Sometime running the head under really hot water helps soften the glue to help remove the old hair. I use either tweezers or hemostats to pull the hair out from inside the doll head - don't forget to cut the hair as short as possible before trying to take it out!
So, it's that easy? Great. But it does look time consuming but it should be fun for me. Thanks a lot and I couldn't stop laughing when you had to squish the doll's head. I know, I'm crazy. LMAOOOO!

I had bought some hair awhile back and wanted to re-root a doll, but never knew how to do it so the hair and the doll have been siting off to the side staring at me. lol. but thanx to you i know now how to r-root a dolls hair, you make it look so easy. I do however have a question. May I ask where did you buy the tool?

@BrokenDollDreams the same method of using a reroot tool for normal straight hair also works really well for curly hair! Just go slowly and carefully as you don't want to end up with a birdsnest hairstyle full of messy curls!! Good luck :)
the lock and loop method works better for Blythe scalps as the tool method can cause excess bulk under the scalp which may mean the scalp doesn't fit back onto the dome easily. x
@kuwaizair you can recreate the prongs by cutting the eye of a needle at the 45 degree angle with some wire cutters and then file down any snaggy edges left behind :) I hope that makes sense?!
the reroot tool is only really suitable for soft vinyl dolly heads - the harder the plastic, the more likely the tool needle is to break. What is her head circumference in inches? x
@kuwaizair it doesn't have to be absolutely perfect, just a rough snip at that sort of angle. If you want to be precise, the easiest way is to fold a square piece of paper into a triangle, then fold the triangle again (... I think I am making things sound an awful lot more complicated than it needs to be! LOL!!!) It doesnt need to be a perfect 45 degree cut so don't worry too much! xx
Hi, Im starting out rerooting Bratz,and I purchased the tool and it came with Saran (sp)hair,is it me or is this hair hard to work with?? My first time I did your method on a Britney Spears doll and got it,Thanks for your video!!! But it just looks so fly away,like static electricity,could you tell me what kind of hair I should use so it comes out looking not this way?? Thank you so much for showing this video,I wouldn't even be able to do it 2 times for practice without your help...Teresa : )
If the hair is sticking up, I wet the hair with just normal cold water, comb it into place and then, using VERY hot water I pour it over the dolls head. You can use slightly cooler water if you are not comfortable using such hot water on your doll or if your glue is not heat tolerant! Just hot running tap water should be fine. I then douse her in cold water to set the style. Pop the doll into the airing cupboard for a day or two until dry and she should be fine =)
@mhscarahscreams Fabri-Tac, E6000, AppliGlue ... any glue which dries clear and flexible :) The three brands I have mentioned are great as they are also water resistant up to 40 degrees which is perfect for when you wash and style the hair :) Do not use any permenant glues (like super glue) though as that can damage the vinyl after a while.
@looselywired you should be able to find a small needle at any good haberdashery shop :) As for hair from beauty shops, it is ok for practice however, the quality is lower and will be harder to style on your Pippa if you choose to reroot her with it :) It is not "wrong" to use the hair from extensions, just the quality is far below the quality of good doll hair. :)

would it work on a Monster high doll? 1 more question Monster high dolls have long necks that are ball shaped were the head was attached so how would you think i should take of the head before re-rooting? please answer!
A great tutorial ! :P now then i recently bought a BestFriendsClub doll, which is about 18" tall and has a rather large head, which might be made of hard plastic. Please can you tell me if the reroot tool in the video can be used on my doll? , and mabey how many hanks of hair i might need, thanks x

🙂🥰🥰👍 I’ve seen a tool made from simply sniping the eye end of a sewing needle and attaching the pointy end of the needle into an Exacto knife, blade holder. Has anyone, here, tried this? Can you tell me if it worked ok? Thank you 🙏
