This video demonstrates a method for clearing an A.00 or A.81 alarm on the Sigma I series Yaskawa servo with a 12-bit absolute encoder. This may be necessary when there is an issue with the encoder battery or capacitors or if the battery has been replaced.
Using the nameplate, we can verify that our motor has a 15-bit encoder. This is signified by a “S” as the 4th character after the dash in the motor model number. This procedure should be done after making sure that the battery, encoder and connections/cables are verified to be in working condition. This procedure is for whenever you remove or reinstall your Sigma I motor and need to reset the absolute encoder.
The first step is to power off the machine followed by removing the feedback connector at the motor. Next, we will short 2 pins to reset the encoder positioning data. We need to short together the R and S pins as shown in the video. On the 15 pin connector, we can short pins 13 and 14 together. On the 12 pin connector, pins 9 and 12 should be shorted together. We highly recommend shorting the respective pins for about 2 minutes.
Oftentimes, this procedure may take multiple times for successful clearing of the alarm; do not be discouraged if this does not work on the first try!
