I do this today...disconnect minus, closed the trunk...CLOSED THE TRUNK...cause I went with some trash to trash can, go back to connect the minus, try to open the trunk...and... 😆
This guy rocks. He is correct that disconnecting 12 volt auxiliary battery will deprive auto tech code to diagnose root cause of hybrid battery failure spelling out voltages of failing cells.
@@west_park7993 Done that and found high voltage Hybrid Traction battery bad with 60 % lifespan remaining. The following year I had the battery swapped in California at Swap Hybrid Battery. After 10 months the refurbished replacement works fine.
@@west_park7993 we're going to try out that Dr.Prius/Dr.Hybrid app. Our 2006 highlander hybrid has started showing the "Check VCS SYSTEM & CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM", Trac off, power steering light on and triangle exclamation point but NO "Check Engine" light?!! I ran my Foxwell ODB scanner as well as the toyota Onboard self Diagnostic system on the display screen and couldn't find any problems, codes, etc.. nor clear the check vcs/hybrid system light. Any thoughts?
re: Eng Control Module memory retention. A lot of fuel trim settings, Hybrid drive battery health and other data for that specific car is very valuble and every effort should be expended to try to save it. While working on the car a good tech will use a 12v motorcycle battery to provide 12v current to the ECM via the OBD port.
I have a Toyota Prius plus 2015 had a clutch fitted and now won’t start charged battery did that also for 1 minute but wouldn’t start any helpful hints I can do
Now, how to reset if lets say body shop messes w your car and you start it up and its like a Christmas tree on dash display? I went thru it and ran back inside and told them cars not running right, now. They had to send it to toyota, a 1k job to reset it.
Sometimes the vehicle will have an isolation fault, or engine fail to start code. If these codes are present, most of Toyota and Lexus vehicles will not start. Most of the time, if you are able to reset that code, you can drive the car to your destination. This will not fix the underlying problem. It will just help you from waiting for a tow truck.
This procedure doesn't fix the problem. It only resets the system so that you can start the car and drive to a safe place. To fix the problem you need to have the vehicle diagnosed and then see what the problem is.
@@impulsefox3569 Had to give up and take it to Toyota Dealer. They only kept it for 6 months! They didn't know what they were doing but my ECU was fried. They claim it was struck by lightening. cost me about $5,000 on a 2nd vehicle I paid $10,000 for. Sorry I can't help you. Also be careful messing around with a hybrid and make sure your multimeter is rated for it. You probably know that but just wanted to throw it out there because I did not realize it at first
