I was so confused at first but then I made sure not to hit the brake when you hold the mileage reset and hit the start button twice and it worked. Thanks again!!
To be clear, for the Toyota Smart Key, while pressing the odometer button,, you must press the start switch twice; once for the accessory, and then a second time to turn it on. You said it at the end of the video but I think you realized that you had to hit the button once more for it to clear the maintenance data.
Because it was confusing. All you have to do is... while vehicle is OFF, press and hold the odo/trip button and then while still holding the odo/trip button in you press the start button twice and continue holding the odo/trip button until resetting vehicle maintenance is finished counting down and says maintenance reset. Then start your car and go on about your business. He went a long way around and about way of explaining it.
This video and explanation was very confusing. For anyone who doesn't understand what to do, as I didnt while watching the video until i pieced all of the info together and figured it out... however, ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS THIS AND ONLY THIS... while vehicle is OFF, press and hold the odo/trip button (on the right side of instrument panel below the speedometer) and then while still holding the odo/trip button in you press the start button twice and continue holding the odo/trip button until resetting vehicle maintenance is finished counting down and then says vehicle maintenance RESET. Then start your car and go on about your business. He went the very unorthodoxed long way around, and about, way of explaining it. Hope this helps.
Hi there. Would appreciate your take on this one. 2018 Highlander. Check engine with a P0128 came on - the car did not warm up the way it should, the idling was a bit higher than usual, temperature indicator stayed low on highway drives - other than that it ran fine. The dealership suggested the thermostat needs to be changed. Did that. The next day, on a cold morning, noticed that the car did not warm up again the way it should. When scanned, the ODB tool alternates between a P0128 and a P0000 code - all this w/out a check engine light. Thank you
It has a fancy touchscreen in the middle of the dash that can configure a million things but I have to jump through hoops to reset the oil life? Come on Toyota.
hello, I have a 2016tundra platinum , I removed the battery cables to reset after a check engine light then I realized the distance to empty changed from 400 to 600 miles on full tank , any idea on how to reset the gauge of the DTE ? thank you
Still trying to figure out how to do this. I think you missed an important step. Here is what I did: Press start button without pressing the brake (you failed to mention not pressing the brake.... otherwise the car will start and you won't get to the menu). Next, press odometer button to get to trip A. Next, press the start button without pressing the brake. Next, Press and hold odometer switch while pressing the ignition on without pressing the brake. Next, step on brake, start vehicle. Maintenance light is still on . Say a few swear words, then repeat the process. Going to give Toyota a piece of my mind. This is ridiculously convoluted and is nowhere in the maintenance manual or on Toyota's site.
Finally got it to work. Definitely the trick is to not step on the brake when you push the start button. I have watched many videos and nobody bothers to mention that. Otherwise, you sit in you driveway, starting your car over and over again until the battery runs dead, or you die of old age.
