I want to seriously thank you for this video. It completely saved me from an epic mental breakdown, and i was able to bypass a faulty windows install!! Thank you!!
My dc 7800 CMT automatically starts as soon as I turn on the power supply, despite not pressing the power button. Also the CMOS data gets lost/corrupted every time the PSU is switched off/on (looks like the CR 2032 batt no longer sustains CMOS, even it's brand new giving full 3V). At start it displays "CMOS CHECKSUM ERROR". Moreover, when I put it into sleep mode from the OS and later try to wake it up it won't and the CPU fan starts spinning with full speed. What could be causing all this?
My PCs ports including the display ports don’t work but my pc turns on, when I do turn on my pc I also can’t turn it off unless I turn off the powersupply, could my cmos potentially be the problem? Would love to hear from you, I have a very rudimentary understanding of all this.

@@mikesunboxing I really appreciate it! The issue did seem to be my cmos tho once I replaced it my ports and such began to work. Thanks for responding my man you are a true uplifter of society.
Heya, sorry to revive an age old comment but do you mind telling me what you did exactly? I'm running into the same issue atm and my new pc has been inoperable for the 6 days I've had it
@@tacitus1401 thanks for the suggestion, however I've been focusing on the cmos for a while now and it still isn't working, it's a new motherboard too so I don't know why it's so messed up 😑, might have to look at other solutions, ty for replying

@@srpcdgaming yup not gonna lie I’m not sure what step did it but I followed this rep by step and I had the pc turning on before this but not displaying anything but now after I did what the video said, the pc won’t turn on at all anymore I’m guessing it short circuited the motherboard?

Recently built a new PC and it would not boot at all. Made sure all connections were correct and tight....still no boot. Removed CMOS battery and waited two minutes, shorted the clear CMOS pins, reinserted CMOS battery and it booted! So even if your installed a brand new motherboard, first thing you should do is follow the procedure to reset the BIOS by clearing CMOS. (And if it still won't boot, replace the CMOS battery with a new one)
@@mikesunboxing Thanks for the quick reply, but I was more so asking because I was curious if any damage could occur on the MB while clearing the CMOS without turning off the power supply or unplugging it but having the PC off via the power button that just simply shuts down the PC
This little piece of junk kept my pc from turning on Removed it and stayed on for about 1 hour after the hour passed my pc COMPLETELY bricked I had to install a clean version of win 10
For the boys with ASUS TUF GAMING motherboards, you don't need to open your PC to reset your BIOS. Just use their Flashback feature and read manual online for super easy BIOS reset with USB and BIOS button in the back. Maybe other manufacturers have the same useful feature, so you don't need to disassembly your whole PC to reset your BIOS and it's settings.
Mike, if you have already upgraded the BIOS, won't you have to go back and do that again since the motherboard presumably returns to what it was like coming out of the factory or is it only the custom settings you've made to the BIOS which are returned to factory defaults?
My pc is turning on but no display on the monitor. When plugging keyboard it doesnt light up but mouse does. I already replaced the cmos battery & ram but it still didn't work. Please give me some suggestions

Thanks for the excellent tutorial. I always have 2032 batteries here to swap on my Sega Saturn, but it never dawned on me to replace the one in my PC lol.
I think I'm going to have to accept that I fucked my system up since this didn't work, I was updating my motherboard and then my pc turned off and now my entire system is bricked, I have tried clearing cmos, I have tried the cmos pins and nothing it's still fucking bricked. My motherboard is the gigabyte b650 elite ax ice and my cpu is the 7800x3d, what should of been a nice upgrade had turned into a big black rgb paper weight with nice parts just unable to do anything.
What can I say Mike...great easy to understand tutorials and how to content. I've picked up quite a few tricks from your videos. Once again...great video Mike and Lady Kath. See you guys on the live stream on Saturday. Take care and be safe out there. Cheers
I got a problem, when i turn my pc on it runs and after 5 seconds its shuts down and restarts again,my monitor is black with the hdmi cable, any help, please
sounds like a bad power switch on the case, check it is clicking on and off, if a case power button is held down for 4 or 5 seconds the psu will switch off. This could be what is happening here
DId you say guitar plug? or pluck? Never heard that one before.... its called a guitar pick! In Canada anyway! LOL.... Anyway, awesome video.. I saved it as there is some info in here I haven't heard before about when changing ram. Thanks!

G'morning Mike. I would need to reset before trying this...if I try this. (dadgum curiosity) So I have 32g 2666 (19-19-19-43) 2x16 (GSkill Aegis) laying around from a previous system. Also have 32g 3600 (16-18-18-38) 4x8 (Corsair Ballistix) in my current system. If I could get them to play together nice,...I have 4 slots...would 48g at slower speed be better than 32g at faster speeds? CPUZ shows a timing table for the 3600 to match the 2666 (19-19-19-43) Reset and just plug them in, let the board sort it out or will I need to fiddle with stuff in the bios?
@@mikesunboxing Interesting. I'm on it now, I just set 2666 in the bios and didn't mess with the timings. CPUz now shows 48G at 1333 16-18-18-38-62. Seems to be running fine. ASRock B550M/ac...XMP set to auto. (Most things set to auto) I thought it would use the cl19 of the Gskill. As far as "better" than 32g at 3600 I don't know yet. Right now I have my browser open, Photoshop with a 4K image, Daz Studio, processing a 4K 3D image, and HWinfo running...says I have 38G free. Edit, I gained 452 points in CinebenchR23.
No Signal on HDMI monitor resolved using this method. Seriously makes you think you have a bad video card. Just removing and placing back battery didn't do. Replaced the battery and shorting those JBAT prongs (mine had a different name) resolved the issue. Image is back on my monitor.

Hi so I’ve done all these steps to reset my bios and I’m still not getting a boot up or anything to my monitors. Power comes on but nothing other than that happens. I experienced the issue while trying to setup secure boot (so I can play valorant) and since I enabled that in my bios I haven’t been able to doing anything. Is there something you might suggest? Anything helps at this point. Thanks.

"CMOS" isn't actually a thing on modern motherboards (UEFI instead stores settings in flash storage, next to the UEFI code itself), and it's up to motherboard vendors to emulate a CMOS reset when a battery removal is detected - not all boards do this. Look for an "NVRAM clear" or "BIOS reset" jumper or button on the board instead, which is actually meant to actively reset your BIOS settings.

ideally you need to discharge all circuits, longer the better or press and hold the power button, with the power disconnected and that should speed things up

probably worth looking in the bios for the votages and see if they are stable, and also if the pc is power through a multi plug adapter or surge protection unit also try and check those

Very very very useful video! I already panicked cos my arctic cooler isn't working as intended anymore, as well as my pc won't restart. It's fine when I do the shutdown manually. sounds like an electrical short on the board. Check all the obvious things like the motherboard stand off pillars being in the right places and any case panel IO being wired correctly
