Paul as a 54 year old man, and owning 30-40 snapbacks I wanna thank you so much for the in depth explanation. I buy used snapbacks and this information is really helpful. Thanks again. BTW I gave you a thumbs up.
Bought a snap back from China and it came all bent up so I used your tutorial and now it looks fresh. Thanks Paul for the awesome tutorial. Amazing channel. Much love from Canada
This was a much more informative and helpful video than I initially anticipated! Though I'm not much of a snapback guy (I grew up in the eighties and hated that the snaps always broke) I found a lot of useful stuff here. My own hat story involves trying to restore two older fitted hats, a fishing hat from Alaska that has suffered embroidery fading and a Dale Earnhardt GM Goodwrench hat in which the black fabric has faded badly but the embroidery looks new. They are my two favorite hats and I really don't want to replace them. Any ideas?
I'm glad you showed people how to replace the snaps. For a minute there I was like restoration!? You mean what I do to all my hats every time I wash them? That's not restoring them, that's just taking care of them and cleaning them. We re-paint hats that are faded from sweating or the sun, we fix the logos, and those are the kind of restoration things I thought I would see. Keep it up though, cuz you'll work your way up there. Peace!
Well, thank you dude, this is the best snapback restoration video that I have ever seen. I will be working on mine as it's folded on the front but I'm positive that it will look fine
Nice video bro! I switched from stuffing the hat with a towel to a pot. It leaves the crown looking like a Mitchell and Ness snapback you should try it!
Your videos inspired me to hit up my local goodwill, found a cleveland indians snapback that was in real bad shape but this video helped me resurrect that mofo lol Thanks bro.
When using a toothbrush make sure the fabric isn’t thinning before using a harsh scrubbing material, if it is use a sponge softly or rub in a stain remover and let it sit for a few hours then gentle wash out. Fabrics on old hats may have worn away or come loose over time. Also if using a washing machine make sure to set it to cold, heat will shrink the fabric and break the plastic snap on the back.
Dude this worked wonders on one of my favourite snaps from the mid 90s. It was all out of shape and I wanted to spruce it up and it looks like new now! Thanks!
Dude i'm so grateful for this video and what you just showed me. After seeing this video a have successfully claened and rereconstructed my vintage Sharks hockey snapback "trucker hat" and my Vintage Adidas flat snapback. Thank you so freakin' much for this video Paul. I am extremely happy with the result!!! :D
Thanks dawg I’m gonna try and restore my dead older bro’s SF49’s hat. Im not a sports guy but he was and I’ll keep his hat until his son can fit into his SF hoodie and hat
a couple questions- doesn’t water damage what makes the bill? or the material inside (cardboard?)? Also, you don’t recommend just putting it in the washer or dryer? lastly, how necessary is the hairspray? Wouldn’t that become sticky if you sweat in the hat?
Just started watching your thrift videos and it inspired me to hit alot of thrift stores came up on a bunch of hats. This video really made them popping again thanks
at least in my experience , they will stretch about one size . but if its smaller than that, your out of luck........it sounds to me like you my have gotten a child size cap . they where very common when I was growing up.
Do you think starch spray for collars for dress shorts would work better than hairspray? Do you have any recommendations for what kind of hairspray to use?
At the weekend someone sat on my NOSTROMO ALIEN Replica snapback... now I know how I can fix it! It's like they ass-ironed it dude, totally sux... Also, you're funny! You made something that could be totally boring actually fun to watch!
Thanks for this vid bruh, a nigga had like 4 starter vintage snaps that were fresh af bit had a funny ass shape, i did the process n now they lookin hella better! Thanks again my G #RealNiggaWassup
Just curious, does the hairspray harm the material at all? I have a fairly new hat that I want to clean but doesn't need to be restored so I'm assuming I could skip the hair spray part? Great video though man, Much appreciated.
I find it easier for me to use a toothbrush and laundry detergent for the cleaning the whole hat, good for colored brims too because of the color boost.
So here is a question for ya man. Some of the really old snapbacks have the flimsy cardboard bill, getting those wet can ruin them. How you clean them? Also how are you cleaning the mesh on trucker caps?
You may want to use a suede/shoe cleaner that doesn't require water to clean the brim. In terms of cleaning the mesh I'd experiment. Usually when hats are that old and use cardboard they're a ticking time bomb.
hey i would reccomend a needle and thread on the snap change it takes a little longer but it wont come unglued i used to use glue on my snaps and eventually they aways come unglued and another thing you might wanna invest in a thread puller it makes the stitching come out way more clean just a suggestion peace
Hey bro! Thank you, so much! I've been looking for someone that could teach me how to restore my caps! This is pretty nice! Well, I'll need a lil' bit of luck 'cause here in Brazil the prices of the caps are too high, so if I screw my cap up I'll have a heart attack. But anyway, thanks 4 helping with your hints!
Check this out: I have a Texas Rangers snapback with the front 2 panels being white, the back 2 panels red, and the brim blue. Would these colors fade into each other on the hat? Example: The white panels becoming pinkish-red. Great explanation bro, you have some solid videos. Subscribed and liked.
