How to Restore Windows boot loader After Deleting Linux and Grub loader 

I've been working on this the past 12 hours and I got to he command prompt then finally found this video, thanks so much!

Thank you for this video!! i encountered an "Access Denied" error while attempting to run bootrec.exe / fixboot. However the first command bootrec.exe /fixmbr seemed to be sufficient and now i'm back into windows after deleting linux

You are like God in my life. my rig was corrupted for more than 2 years it had some valuable data so I cannot call a technichian for fix it and he tells to format c drive I was really sad for these years atleast I found this and fix it in 1 minute and now I get my rig back. Grub had been bothering me for awhile after I uninstalled Ubuntu on my Windows 7 PC. The command line prompts totally worked to repair my Windows boot, and I reclaimed that old Linux partition. Thanks bro!

THANK YOU! Tonight I deleted the linux partition from my fiancée's system and forgot to about the grub bootloader. After a little searching on other forum non of their advice did squat. Your video however saved my bacon!

I did everything you said but when I select the partition that I need I get the following message: "The selected disk is not a fixed MBR disk. The active command can only be used on fixed MBR disks." Upon further inspection, I found out that there is a missing partition. I can't even reset my Windows 10 :( Can you please help

hey can u help me? grub 2 simply wont recognize my windows partition which is located on different HDD (sdb). i tried to use the recovery cd to fix the mbr to win bootloader then it says os is missing..so i intalled grub all over again and it still wont recognize windows.. (its on two different HDD) ive tried to boot from second drive which is the windows one and i still get into grub again without windows in it..thx

Thank you! I upgraded my Ubuntu partition to 16.04 and it broke, but Windows 10 still worked. Then I tried reinstalling Ubuntu and the Grub menu wasn't showing. I thought I was going to need to wipe everything and start from scratch! None of my important files are on my boot drive, but you just saved me hours of reinstalling and updating and downloading software. Thanks!

thanks ! I deleted my dual boot Linux mint partition in Computer management. I thought I was creating some extra space by formatting some unallocated space in window 10. I actually used a window 7 disk to fix my MBR record. so thumbs up to you. I didn't need to use fixboot! and my pc restarted fine. this reminds me I need to burn a win10 iso!!!!

Is there a way to install only the windows 7/8 boot loader without the operating system itself on an XP system? Fixboot, Fixmbr, Active - is not doing the trick, the "C:\boot\bcd" file is not recreated in this manner. Thanks.

I had a quite similar problem after deleting and reuniting the old ubuntu partition with my windows 7 partition, after the reboot I got the following: Error: No such partition. So I followed the instruction given here, just with a win7 bootable USB drive. Conclusion, my problem can be solved, using the same orders in the command prompt as on the shown win8.1 system. So my Error was solved after FixMBR and FixBoot, if anyone else, has this problem. Thank you for this tutorial, spared me from a load of more research^^

This worked great for me. The only issue I initially had was that I had recovery disks instead of a repair disk. The recovery disks would have returned the laptop to the factory image instead of retaining the data. I got a Windows 7 repair disk from a friend, followed these steps and it works perfectly. I will definitely create a repair disk moving forward. Thanks.

Thank you very much, it worked. I just wanted to add that the last (after the second reboot) step isn't necesseraly required, unless we have a lot of partitions on our HDD or SSD.

Thanks for this vid. I experimented with dual-booting Windows 7 and Ubuntu some months back. After a while, I got bored of the arrangement, preferring to stick to Windows 7 on my desktop and install Ubuntu on my aging laptop. Once I got rid of Ubuntu on the desktop, I ran into this problem... except I found a program called EasyBCD, which let me create a new boot loader. It isn't Windows' native loader, and Windows doesn't see any reason to fix it, but it works at least. Unfortunately, it still causes problems here and there, and I'd really like to restore the original loader. I'll try the steps here sometime in the future and hopefully fix the problem once and for all.

Great video. Worked perfectly. Many Thanks. One small point. When Techno selected partition 2 , its because thats the partition that he wants the PC to boot from. At the start of the video he creates four partitions the second one was the C drive area, hence partition 2.

While trying to install the latest Ubuntu distro I deleted my CentOS exactly as shown (except in linux) without even thinking and ran into this problem. The first command prompt step fixed everything and I'm able to boot into Windows 7 with no problems. I'll be much more careful next time! Thank you!
