How To Retrofit Power Folding Mirrors On BMW F30/F31/F32/F20/F21

In this video I will show you how to retrofit power folding mirrors + auto dim function.
My car came pre-equipped with light sensor and interior auto-dim, now I have added exterior auto dim mirrors + power folding.
Difficulty: Easy-Medium
This retrofit requires coding, you need to code S430 option via E-Sys (No, it can't be done via Bimmercode or any other mobile app)
If you want to fold in/out on the single press on key fob, you need to code it as well.
(From the factory is long press on the key fob)
Coding:
- Connect your car with E-Sys via VIN (It doesn't have to be Pro)
- Add "430" option to SALPA element in FA
- Write FA/FP
- Code FEM
- Done

Thank you for the great video! I successfully retrofitted the following mirrors for my 2015 F22 coupe. I just followed your instruction and found only few differences between F30 and F22. In my case, it’s not necessary to remove the glovebox (removing the lower panel gives enough space). And the location of the ground point in the passenger door was a little bit different but pretty easy to find it. I think I couldn’t have done without your video. Thanks again for your great work!!

Thank you for this I. Managed to complete in only 2 days 😂😂 I mistakenly plugged to power wire & k-lin the wrong way round, I thought I had a major fault as by doing this knocked out all power to driver’s door. 1 day later & checking virtually all fused relays, I did a complete wire chase almost as if I was starting again, this mirror plug was the last chek & found my stupid error! Swapped two wires over & perfect!👏👏 😮‍💨

This is a great tutorial. I just did the retrofit today and only few things went wrong. - the red clip from fusebox connector fell in engine bay. I can’t reach to it but the connector seems to fit just fine. Do I need to buy a new one, or can I do without? - only the passenger side folding works, driver side doesn’t work. Also, electric mirror adjustment doesn’t work on driver side. I thought maybe the new doorswitch is broken, but mirror adjustment doesn’t work either with old swich. What could go wrong? Blinker works fine, so connector seems plugged in correctly. I have an f31 (LCI) from December ‘15. Thanks again for the great content!

Hello. I have a 2017 320i and I just purchased the mirrors and switch. Will I have to do the same thing on the passenger side like u did as well? I do have memory/power seats on my car. This looks a little more involved than I thought. Lol. Now that I have the parts I’m a little worried about the passenger connections.

@@crazymuffin_x3234 No, you have to add VO. I code with Esys, maybe you can also Code all single parameters with BimmerCode but I don’t know the parameters. With Esys it’s very easy and you dont need to search every single parameter. Download for Esys is in the Video Description, with BimmerCode you can’t add VO

Nothing is standard from factory, everything is optional, even with M Sport package.

I followed these instructions to my BMW 4 series F32 and got to say this was very detailed and made it very easy for me to retrofit power folding mirrors to my 2015 bmw thank you very much for posting this video. The only question i have I could not get the mirror to tilt when reversing, its been coded to allow it to do so but wont work any ideas?? The mirrors all work and adjust from panel on both mirrors?

Hello and thank you for kind words. For your question about mirror tilt when reversing, try following: When you put the car into reverse, on the mirror adjust switch, put it on the driver's side mirror to enable mirror tilt, if you want to switch off mirror tilt, put it on passenger side. (This is for LHD, if you have RHD car, then try it in opposite way i.e - put it on passenger side for ON, driver's side to turn it OFF) You can try this video as well: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_GtTCe0ehU0.html

Hi Ace320, Great video, thank you.... this is almost exactly what I have so desperately been looking for, only because I am looking to do the same on my 2008 E82.. So, daft question as you’ve already listed the models in your description, but I’m going to ask anyway... Do you know if your tutorial is the holy grail of folding mirror retrofits on BMW’s or do I need to keep searching? i.e, will all the pins and connectors be the same do you know? Hi. This tutorial is only for the BMW F series. They are changeing patern from generation to generation. So this video will not help to the people with E series (old gen) or G seriers (next gen).

I have already left PN for the Pins at the beginning of the video. For wires, I found them from wrecked BMW F series on scarp yard's. But if you wish, you can buy them from BMW: - Red-Black cable: 61121391684 - Red-Yellow: 61126902614 - Grey-Green: 61126908725 - Brown: 61126908726 You can use the power from them driver's side instead of connecting new one to the fuse box, it will work, but I wanted everything to be 100% OEM, so I have followed wiring diagram and connected new wire to fuse box.

Hi, thank you for your comment. Unfortunately I don't have F10 or any other BMW to show this project bcs this is not my job, it's just my hobby. I modify my own car and I post some interesting projects here on YT that might be helpful to other ppl. I can do this retrofit on any BMW, but the problem is, I don't own other BMW's.

I’m doing this on my car this coming Sunday. I have a couple of questions I’m hoping you can shed some light on. 1, you are working on a LHD vehicle but mine is RHD, will I need to route cable from passenger side to drivers side to reach the front fuse box? 2, I have bought a window switch with the button on to fold mirrors. I have noticed that the pin connections are totally different to my current one. Will this just be plug and play once coding has been applied or do I need to do something to it? 3, how do I code single press of key fob? That’s all for now :)

Hi. 1. Fuse box is located in the same place on the LHD and RHD cars and you need to connect wire from fuse box to the passenger side. 2. Window switch with power folding button has LESS wires then basic one. Don't worry, once coded it will work. 3. I have coded it with bimmercode app.

It's 5 Pin on both sides, on passanger side you can leave that 6th Pin, bcs it's not in use. Just follow the video and it will 100% work.

Those 3 wires are connected to the driver's doors, so you can't connect them to the FEM.

I will pull power from cigarette lighter at back of arm rest that is never used also have Linbus cct from my old heated passenger seat from Fem as I now have full electric M4 that uses Kcan 2 bus. so I wont have to take the Fem plug apart. 430 option is power folding mirrors, if you install mirrors from basic to power folding and don't code 430, they will not automaticlly fold, bcs car doesn't know that he has new mirrors. So it's a must.

Pozdrav druze, zamenio sam module na retrovizore, ubacio ove elektricne koji se sami sklapaju. E sad levi radi super, ali desni ne poklapa. Takodje ne radi dugme koje pomera stakla levo desno, vec samo moze gore dole. Lik kod kojeg sam kupio kaze da treba sve to da se iskodira i da drugacije to nece raditi. Da li ie potrebno kodiranje?

No, my F30 from factory tilts curb side only ( mirror switch has to be set set to driver) I retro fitted my f22 as described in this video & thought I had a fault until checking F30!

Hi. That wire is power for the mirror. It goes from the fuse box to the door connector and from door connector to the mirror. Watch carefuly and you will see how it's done.

Am I worng to think that wiring from door side isnt necessary except the ground as from what I see you unplugged wires and plug back new ones in the same location on the doors both end? So I guess thats only if you looking to get the right colour coded wires?

Hi. Yes, you are wrong, bcs old wores weren't connected to the FEM and Fuse Box. The way I whowed in the video is how it's done in factory, so no worries, just follow it up and everything will work as it should.

Pin 4, 5 and 6 on mirror connector can stay and on the other end on big plug move them to pin12 and 14. Wire of pin 4 can be cutted near ground wire and connecred to it. So much quicker and less hassle.

Hi, thank you. Yes, external mirrors auto-dip function works only if car has internal auto-dip mirror, because internal mirror has a sensor that triggers dimm function.

@@VITALIBRUNO Interior auto-dip mirror has a 3-pin connector, but unfortunately I cannot tell you the correct wiring diagram cos the web site that provides diagrams has been shut down. Try googling it.

Hi Ace, Question: why do you have to connect the 3 cables? is that for the door operation or also for the key operation? I only have the folding mirrors and therefore no door controls. thanks for your comment.

Hi. Those 3 wires are: - Power from the fuse - Signal wire that communicates with the car - Ground wire I didn't understand what do you mean by "I only have folding mirrors and no door controlls"? - If you have power folding mirrors from factory, you should have the folding button on the window controll switch on the driver's doors.

@@Acelele320 Thanks for your fast comment. Unfortunately I don't have folding mirrors from the factory, but I bought these without door controls, so only 2 folding mirrors. I thought i could just install this and then code it and then it would work (coding on the key, close and open), so that's why i was wondering if it's really necessary to add these 3 cables on the right side? Just completed the Power Mirror retro and found that the 3 spare wires on passenger side all end up at the drivers switch. You just need to splice Power Lin and Earth onto them and code work great.

@@AlmightyEye when you fit the mirror on the passenger side you will see the 3 wires concerned on the plug . I think it was pins 2.3.4 . Power Lnbus Earth On the drivers side they appear again but on my car one of them Linbus had changed from blue yellow to blue green I think , its been a while. But using a tester you an trace them out . One prob you have now is the TIS diagrams are not freely available any more from BMW . So you tee in the power & earth to the power & earth feeding the drivers switch using solder or small connectors then splice the Linbus wire which as mentioned has changed colour but by putting a tester on the middle wire on passenger mirror you will find it on the drivers switch . These 3 wires need removing from their old position on drivers switch and will only connected to the 3 wires going into drivers switch . The car will then need the power mirror option coded in.

I have an f30 with faulty power mirrors and I want to code it as if it’s a basic side mirror so that it wouldn’t be functional, is that possible?

Not possible because other stuff will stop functioning, such as auto-dip function and adjusting mirror glass with a window controller. You would have to full convert to the basic mirrors. Pro tip: Replace the faulty mirror and that's it. You can find them used on ebay for about 150€/ piece

Hi. Yes, I'm pretty sure that 5 Pin is folding, because my car came without folding function and mirrors where 6 Pin, and when I bought power folding mirrors they were 5 Pin.

@@benjaminmanal8269 Every 5 Pin mirror is foldable. Some 6 Pin mirrors are also foldable, BUT not every 6 Pin is foldable. Cars with memory (electric) seats and foldable mirrors are 6 Pin. There could be also 5 Pin non-oldable, but those are very, very rare. Difference between foldable and non-foldable mirror from inside is that foldable mirror has aluminium base and non foldable plastic base (You need to remove mirror cap to see it) i.imgur.com/HRMKR1W.jpg

@@benjaminmanal8269 It is possible, but auto-dim function will not be available. Because there is a sensor in rear view mirror, and basic rear view mirror don't have it. Auto-dim function standard on every power folding mirrors, but it is independent of rear view mirror - without that sensor, auto-dim function will not work. There are vehicles who comes with rear view mirror who are auto-dim but without power folding mirrors option (Like my car).

@Mistrr hydra That Pin is Female conntact Pin, at 0:11 you have the full list of parts. Part no.3 are the female pins. I have left OEM part number, with that part number you can order as many you want.

Pozdrav drug. Ne nisam mjenjao unutrašnje špiglo jer to sam već imao iz fabrike. Ukoliko auto ne posjeduje unutrašnje špiglo sa auto-zatamljivaljem i on se mora ugraditi da bi vanjski retrovizori funkcionisali kako treba. I da, moraju se ugraditi električni retrovizori ako hoćeš auto-dim iz vana. Ako hoćeš samo iznutra onda je dovoljan samo unutrašnji zamjeniti.

@elfuego99000 Hi. No, I didn't change harness in the switch, as I said in the video, driver's side is plug and play, all wires are already there, the only difference is that basic mirrors have more wires then the power folding ones.

That is called "curb in reverse" and it's available only for power folding mirrors, if you have them, then you already have this feature, if you don't have power folding mirrors, then you can't code it.

Hi. Red-Grey wire is Power from fuse box to the mirror. White-Brown wire is K-Lin from FEM You connect them to doors plug 8:30 see there is Pin 12 and 14, those are 2 Pins are Red-Grey and White-Brown wire.

Ace320 hi just looking at the diagram and on the a73a plug (mirror plug) the basic mirror diagram has ground on pin 3 could I just connect together pin 3 from basic diagram to pin 4 from power fold diagram for ground?

@@sarooprince You can't, because power folding mirror has 2 motors, 1 for power fold and 2nd for mirror glass, so 2 motors 2 ground wires. On the diagram that I put on video is shown only wiring for power fold motor (3 wires). There are 2 more wires missing for 2nd motor, but that wiring is already installed in every F30

Su bimmercode trovo solo le opzioni per chiudere e aprire gli specchi da tele ma quello che intendi tu per codifica credo sia qualcosa che viene prima e legato proprio alla fem e gli specchi in se. Mi puoi scrivere in privato di dove sei (magari ci troviamo) o come devo fare per codificare gli specchi? Conta che ho già comprato tutto, pure il cavo ENET me sono bloccato :/ Grazie.

Hi. It is both for RHD and LHD, you just need to get correct parts for your vehicle, there is no difference in installation process.

I have just bought a pair of folding mirrors for my RHD UK F21, the mirrors though are off a shadow line and don’t have the 3 lines on the arm like the m sport, can I swap the internals to my m sport mirrors, so they look legit? Got the mirrors for £190 and if all goes well with this guide I’ll save £460 having a UK retro fitter doing these for me.

Hi. Yes, you can swap internal parts from one mirror to other. I have done the same thing. I bought F20 m sport mirrors and then I have swapped internal parts to my F31 m sport mirrors. (F20 mirrors doesn't fit F30, you need to swap parts)

Ace320 Thank you very much, one other question. I have bought RHD to RHD Which is great. The description says left is not Photochromatic but the right one is Photochromatic, I’m assuming that’s how they all are or am I missing something? Is it something to do with left mirror dipping in reverse?

Pin 1: Red colour: FEM - connector: A173*9B - Pin 51 (Red-White wire) Pin 2: White colour: FEM - connector: A173*9B - Pin 50 (Blue-White wire) Pin 3: Ground pin - Connect it anywere to the car with other ground pins (Brown wire) After installation you need to code option: S430 and 7AC

Where are you from? EU or UK? If you are from EU and you have bought mirrors from UK seller, then you have got RHD mirrors, and in EU you need LHD mirrors. Also, on the mirror itself is a sign for the drivers side with big "L" and on thr passanger "R", if it's opposite, you have wrong mirrors.

Yes exactly, they gave me a discount because I get almost all parts from them, so I have diffrent prices than a normal customer + 1 mirror was slightly damaged, that's why the price was so low. The damaged part is replaced with my old mirror, It was just 1 plastic cracked.
