This week, we're using fields and vertex maps to reveal geometry. We also use bools as a different technique for revealing objects. By layering these animations we can make more complex looks.

As this was recorded last week, Sev says we'll see you next week, but our next tutorial will be this Friday. We decided to push back to Monday from last week so that people might actually see this tutorial, haha. See you Friday!

Hi thanks for the tutorial. I have little experience with c4d but still it have helped me. I also have read on your website that your tutorials are aimed for advanced users. Still I dare to ask if you could explain how do I "texture map the edges of the displacer cube" to be able to add the glow in AE please? The mentioned part is at 02:09.

Hi thanks for the question. :) The displacement object just has a basic color on it. the bool is using that color to shade the edge of the new GEO. Then in ae im using that color to glow.

Solid content! I'm probably going to have a second or third watch later - it was quite a bit to take in while in a slow monday mentality... :p

Thanks! It was better than after a large dinner and nap for US viewers after Thanksgiving, haha.

hey i know im a bit late here but i was running into some problems with the first technique. When animating the displaced cube through my logo i was getting horrible triangulation (also visible in the video at around 2:10). I encountered some really badly flickering reflections on my object and i think this was the reason for that (without the boole reflections/lighting looked fine). Subdividing both objects led to better results but did not completely fix the issue and on top of that made the render time longer. Any pointers the the right direction for me?

Hi, thanks for the question. :) Unfortunately, that is more so a limitation of the Boole in c4d. There are a few settings to play with, try turning off the high quality. Seems counter-intuitive but it will often cause weird triangles because it is trying to be more accurate. You could also get around the poping with a lot of extra GEO or using a volume builder.

@@Workbenchtv Hey, first of all thanks for replying to a comment on a 3 year old video in about an hour! i already fiddled with some of your suggestions and i think i will go back to my first approach of using volume builder. Thanks for your content, really helpful in learning c4d!

Amazing ! Do you think there's way to do something similar in r19 without fields ?

That market is quite saturated, and it's not really what we're interested in at this point.

I am sorry to say, but very poor explanation. Actually no explanation; only mechanical description what was done. The ones who already know what is going on can easily follow, but the ones who would like to understand based on this are out of luck.. I am sorry again guys for the criticism, my intention is to help.

No worries about criticism. We understand. Our style is more cooking show than step by step on purpose. Here's the reason why in case you're curious: workbench.tv/blog/2017-05-28_WorkbenchStyle/
