How to ride a 50cc Moped/Scooter (UK)

Quick little tour of my mopehead I rent of a company know as Wheels To Work.
! Please know this is not very detailed ! To ride a mopehead please get required training! There is much I have not mentioned and you WILL need practise riding one before you enter the road!
In the UK and Ireland you will need a CBT, it will cost approx £60 to have one done. That will be your training.
For other country's this training will be called different, so please do you research.
Once you have your training please invest in some protective gear.
Never ride one of these without a full face helmet and geans.
Otherwise if you fall at any speed over 10mph you will suffer massive injures! This is not a car, not metal cage to protect you from crashes! Only the gear you ware.
Also good to have a leather jacket for extra skin protection.
Other channels on RU-vid will give you more info on clothing you WILL need.

@@ahdkfknsbcienfnsk No it Isn't! A Moped Must 1) have Pedals and 2) Must be restricted to 30 miles per hour. That's how the Law defines them. A 50cc scooter is NOT a Moped.

Lol, i got on wheels 2 work a few months ago after passing the CBT. Had the same exact Honda model too. Nice little whip for a beginner but embarrassing af doing 15 up a steep hill at rush hour lmao! had to get a 125cc fast as possible until i upgrade to something more serious.

hi mate I'm looking to get a moped when I'm 16 do I only need a provisional licence to ride and buy a moped or do I need to pass some sort of test? great video by the way it's very detailed.

Hey lad. Yea you will need to get a provisional license and then take a CBT test. It's the UKs moped test. And I think you can get it when your at 16. Look it up though. The test only takes a day. Including the learning. Then once you have it you can get a moped of your own. I rented the one in the vid as I was waiting to pass driving test at the time x

Hi Sam! First timer here. I'm wanting to get a moped because I can't afford a car at the moment and think a moped is a great start. I passed my driving test back in April 2022 and I'm just wondering where to start? A couple of questions. What CC can I go up to with a full drivers licence? Would I need to do a bike test if I've already passed my car drivers test?

Moped is a great start. I now drive a van but started on that moped. However you need a different licence to drive a a 50cc or 125cc moped. (Recommend a 125cc) it's called Compulsory basic training ( CBT ). It takes 1 day. Half on open car park half on road with instructor. If they judge you compitent then you go. If you have trouble they'll do a second day. Cost like £80. To drive a bike/moped over 125cc you need a full motorbike licence with is just a difficult as a driving license. Good look!

The higher the CC the bigger the engine, not the amount of fuel you can get in; of course the size of the tank vary's in engine size, however CC is the difference in engine size.

If you don't have the option of buying a car and learning how to use it yes! Just be aware your more vulnerable on a moped than anything else and that there not always pleasant to ride in rain or cold.

To buy in full, around £700+ 2nd hand. At the time I paid £65 for it per month as part of a program called Wheels2Work.

In the UK yes. Its required by law. It only takes about 6-7 hours if you pass first time and costs £70.

its a peace of piss you most likely will pass the first time unless you're stupid but they wont pass you until they are 100 percent sure you are road safe and fully confident riding it so you have nothing to worry about by the time you will be riding one on your own you will be road wary and know the dos and donts and will be safe. you will be nervous riding it for the first 20mins then you will have a blast feels like the fastest thing in the world at first then you realize its really not lol its good to get you started on the road until you get your full licence.

No ! You are only allowed passengers in the UK if you have a FULL motorcycle licence i.e. you have passed both Mod 1 and Mod 2 tests.

Didn't see this till now sos. Hope u did well! I failed first time cos I didn't pay attention as I was just following the lad in front of me doing the test. Ended up going down one way road😅 make sure I drive independent of anyone else. If they make mistake and u follow them Ur just as bad x

You need cbt if you passed your car license after 2001. And yes, most mopeds are automatic.

Nearly all moped are automatic, and yes you need a CBT to drive one, its a pain, but worth it to have an understanding before driving one, that's what the CBT is for.

You can do your CBT on a 50cc moped and then buy a 125cc. A CBT is a CBT. I didn't know this but now why bother taking a risk on 125 when I can breeze thru on a moped and still have the same CBT?!!

the steering lock is horrible on all scooters you can just jerk it hard and it will snap the lock.

I've found that true for older ones that have worn or rusted. But if it looked after or/and the production quality is good it's less of a issue. And for people stealing it, it makes the value of the bike go down if the lock is broke if there planing to sell it.

Where are you located? I’d say to try and find a dealership where you can try them and I’d recommend a used one. The thing is that the moment a scooter has been used by someone else it’s gone down in price significantly but you’ll definitely wanna go for a test ride at first. I’d recommend some sort of Yamaha if you wanna have a reliable, fun bike. I’m not sure where you are but where I live we can buy modded and derestricted bikes. I have a tiny switch under my seat which makes my moped go from a legal 45 km/h moped to a 80+ km/h illegal one Incase you want some fun you should look for that 😉 But honestly I’m not that experienced, I’ve been riding dirt bikes since I was very young but only have about three years of moped experience (I’m 16)

“cc” stands for “cubic centimetres" so 50cc is 50 cubic centimetre sized engine. Basically meaning the bigger the size number = bigger engine = more power, i.e torch and speed.

Your right I know partially little about biking, more so now but at the time so many people had asked me about them I just recorded this. In CBT training they only teach you how to ride it, were fuel and storage is and to look before you go anywhere. CC's and engine stuff is not even mentioned. They figure if you break down were just gonna call surfaces anyway. Glad it made you all laugh though!
