Please do DOWN the mountain too! I'm also hoping you'll talk about proper downshifting and how to engine brake well, because when I do it I slow down WAY faster than I want to, so fast that my downshifts can't keep up with my slower speeds.

Some Mt. Lemmon views! Thank you. I used to live in Phoenix and enjoyed chances to head up there. I loved the transitions from desert floor, saguaro forests, and eventually the alpines forests. The best part I remember is the nice 30 degree temp drop going up.

I am pretty sure that that by not starting outside you are limiting your line of sight through the corner. You would also see a car that is over steering the corner sooner, if you start from the outside. The middle can also be the slickest part of the road because car tires don't throw off any dripped oil from the center of the road. The idea of outside in side, is to stay wide till you see the safest line to take.

The dreaded Tar Snakes, Squishy when hot and slippery when wet. This road has a lot , but the most I've encountered was on the 180 in New Mexico during a fun run. Loads of 'em and twisty turny, that had me a bit tense until I reached Alma NM and could take a lunch break and refuel. Love what you're doin' Dan, keep up the good work. \m/

Canadian summers are beautiful but short - I bought some of those emergency heat packs from the dollar store and keep them in my bag in case it gets too cold at night. You can pop them into your Boot/shoe or even just putting them in an interior jacket pocket works wonders!

Downhill is of course riskier, very easy to end up going much faster than you intended. One thing that helps a lot, especially on left hand corners, is late apexing, stay to the outside longer than typical and make your apex later in the corner, that gives you a lot more buffer zone to react to things happening during the turn.

Nice video man, another big thing about the mountain is those look out points. There are many times cars have blindly pulled out from them and if I had been hauling i would have t-boned them. I do think you still need to look a little too the sides because of situations like that, just not in a spastic manner.

WV has lots of technical super curvy roads. There is some great riding. However, you do have to watch out for broken road and/or holes in lane position three. Sometimes the road starts to dip or break off into lane position two on some of our older roads.

I left Tucson for the military after high school (Catalina) and have only been back once to drive up Mt Lemmon in my Saab Sonnet III it was great but my little carbureted engine wouldn't start at the top because of the altitude change so I got her pointed down hill and free-wheeled till I could pop the clutch and get her started again. I'd like to do it again on my motorcycle but I'm in Colorado now. I'll make it back down there again some day but there is plenty of riding to do where I am. great video and real nice personality. I'd like to see you and Nikki do the ride.

I want you to ride the german Autobahn. A44 from Kassel onto A7 to Frankfurt. Thats the Autobahn through the hills. But be carefull where speedlimits are, they are there for a good reason. And do it on a Sunday, trucks need a special permit on Sundays.

The telling yourself "very good" can come through any medical training. Being in nursing for 20 years, we're taught to talk patients through every step. I find myself complimenting myself whenever things go the way they're supposed to. Just a thought. :)

So many people were I live complain about the speed limits here, although this road he just drove would have a speed limit of probability 100 km/h, 65 Mph in my country. When I hear people complain I just think to myself, what they are complaining, while in other places they have to go up that hill with 56 km/h 35 Mph, and have to pay probably 200$ for a ticket, while here if you are about 20 km/h 12 Mph over the speed limit you will probably get away with 20$ to 50$ if you pay in cash at the officer, so I am glad it is not that strict here.

i am very careful when riding a mountain. i almost avoid them. but one of the reasons i get stressed is because of the groups of riders that come out there to show off and speed. i don't know what to do when they start riding my ass and trying to go around me on narrow roads because i'm going the speed limit. what is the best move in this situation. i'm always afraid to change position because i worry someone behind me will be going to fast to adjust their position if i move into their line unknowingly.

As someone who has jumped back onto a bike after many years I have been keen to give fellow riders the "biker wave". This is difficult in Australia because we ride on the other side of the road, so our throttle hand is also our waver hand. How to conduct wave whilst also maintaining throttle?
@DanDanTheFireman
@DanDanTheFireman 5 лет назад
Use your left hand and raise it up. Or do a quick one. If it creates an unsafe situation for you to remove your hand, don't wave.

@DanDanTheFireman
@DanDanTheFireman 5 лет назад
The one that gives you the best line of sight.
@dalevoigt8612
@dalevoigt8612 5 лет назад
Slow down till you can stop with in your limited amount of sight. Stay wide making sure that you are on solid pavement. This gives you the longest amount of road you can see. When you can see a safe line through the corner, take it and accelerate after the apex of your turn. P.S. you may want to shift the weight of your head and shoulders to the inside of your turn before you pick your line. Please stay safe.
