Thanks!! I'm fairly new at the offshore game, and usually add a frozen ballyhoo to my skirts up here in central Florida.. Next trip I'm gonna try this method. Thank you brother!! 🤘🤘
Thanks for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it. Good luck on your next trip out, hope you slay em'... Dolphin go after these with no remorse. Take care & Stay healthy :)
I made several of these after watching your video in different colors. We will be putting them to work in 10 days down in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach Alabama.
Thanks for watching another one. You are on a roll. When I head offshore and start trolling on top, one of these is always in the spread. Good luck and tight lines. Please let me know how it goes for you on your Gulf shores fishing trip :)
Thanks a million for watching. Welcome to the fishing family. May your journey bring you many years of happiness and success. Be careful out there. Tight lines & take care ;)
Hi Heath, That was another great "How To" video. I'm sure that you have taught many anglers how to make rigs that have caught hundreds of pelagic fish. I bet the fish hate you. LOL Keep up the good work and stay safe down there building those mobile hospitals. Most of the towns along the Jersey shore have closed the beaches and made it difficult to fish. I'm just staying home until the virus is long gone. Take care, Mickey
Hi Mickey, I'm land locked for the time being too... So I'm sure the fish are really gonna dislike me when this is all over. I'm working on some short seminars right now... And a few other nifty ideas that should spark some interest. It's giving me time for self reflection and to really examine the knowledge I've gained and how I can properly share it. Hope all is well with your family. Take care & stay healthy :)
Is the inside of your sinker smooth enough not to damage rhe line? Becasue i only use fluro. Why not insert a rubber sleeve? Your videos are awesomly simple and clear.
Thanks a boat load for watching and asking an excellent question. I have yet to have a problem with the inline egg sinker chaffing the leader. You have to be selective, because yes they can have sharp edges that need to be cleaned up. You do need some weight, not just a sleeve, to hold the lure down just below the surface when you are trolling. Otherwise, it'll pop out of the water too often, creating an unnatural look, and thus, reduce your hook up ratio. If you're apprehensive about using standard lead egg sinkers, you can purchase tungsten weights, or chrome bullet heads. Both of these options are polished and have a smooth finish on the inside. Hope this helps. Always great to hear from you and I really appreciate your support. Tight lines & take care ;)
Thanks a million for watching and asking some great questions. When using a planer and pulling a skirt with a bonito strip, I'm doing between 6 and 8 knots. I use a #6 planer which gets me down about 35 feet. Hope this helps. Always great to hear from you, and I truly appreciate you support for the channel. Thanks again for everything. Tight lines & take care ;)
Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. The skirt is 6 inches. If you are looking where to get them, I left a link in the description below the video. Hope this helps. Tight lines & take care ;)
Thank you for sharing, do you happen to have the Hooks model number, and skirts brand name? FYI I fish in Guatemala Pacific Ocean and your techniques pretty much apply to us as well.
Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. Here's some links to the info you are asking about: Mustad 5/0 O'SHAUGHNESSY HOOKS bit.ly/3gLOSCB Mustad 8/0 O'SHAUGHNESSY HOOKS bit.ly/3iMo5rT Boone 6" Trolling skirt www.boonebait.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=495_497 Glad to hear that the same tactics apply, always great to able to share and discuss similar topics, when we're half a world away. Thanks again for your support of the channel. Tight lines & take care ;)
It's the same rig if you use it was a planer. Using the 1 oz weight in the head still applies. The only thing you have to make sure is that you have a hundred foot leader from your planer to your lure. Hope this helps
@@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing thank you Heath. Do you use bridles when planer fishing? If so do you have a video for making or using them? I do prefer to reel fish in with the rod instead of handling if possible. Your thoughts about using a bridle system vs handling? Thank you for making an effort to respond. You’ve been a great help and resource.
@@jimdrechsel3611 I don't use bridles. The issue I've had with them in the past is that when you reel them pass the top guide of the fishing reel is that they get chafed and they tend to be compromised and if the fish takes a run they immediately snap off. I know everybody talks greatly about being able to real in the fish directly from your line. But speaking from years of experience with this method... Unfortunately handling in your fish I find to be the most successful way. Check out the video where I hand line in that 54 lb wahoo with pretty much no problem. Lots of RU-vidrs skip out the facts and I honestly try not to mislead anybody when it comes to being successful at fishing. Thanks for having faith and what I say and questions that hopefully I can answer for you
@@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing I trust your and value experience for sure. Now that you mention it that makes perfect sense and you saved me from living that disappointment. I’ll give it a try!
Hi thanks for watching and asking a great question. The answer is yes I use this rig with the planer sometimes... However, instead of a mono leader I use about 18 inches of wire leader and that a has a 100 feet of 60 pound test leader off the planer. 20 feet off the planer is too close. Hope this helps. Tight lines & take care :)
Thanks for watching and asking a good question... the answer is No. I troll it just the way you saw it rigged... I use a #5 snap swivel tied to the main line of the reel and then the lure which is apprx 6 feet long, slays all day long. The only time I use wind-on's and trolling lead is for high speed trolling for wahoo. Take care & tight lines :)
Thanks another boat load for continuing to run through all the episodes. It's nice to see your interest. I appreciate hearing from you. Tight lines & take care ;)
Thanks for watching and asking a great question. The skirts I use are from the manufacturer Sea Striker and the length is 6 inches you can find them here www.seastriker.com/styled-5/index.html Good luck and tight lines. Take care :)
Thanks for watching and asking a great question. So, I fished out of Hillsboro inlet for 20 years... I would head over to Ace's Bait & Tackle. Located just South of 14th Street on the East side of Federal Hwy. They have a great selection. Or you can head a little bit further north to RJ Boyle.. Both shops are great. Good luck and tight lines :)
Thanks for watching and asking a great question. I typically use 40 lb mono or fluoro... when I'm trolling I don't really use a fluoro leader, but that's just me. I also, bump it up to 60 lb test durning the summer months, because marlin roam my area and the corners of their mouths are sharp. Honestly, fluorocarbon gives you a more stealthy approach, however, I've never really noticed a difference in hook-up ratio... especially with trolling. Always a pleasure to hear from you. Hope this helps. Tight lines & take care ;)
Thanks a million for watching and leaving some great feedback I truly appreciate it. Always great to hear different perspectives on a similar subject especially when it comes to rigging lures. Tight lines & take care ;)
Thanks, always great to hear from you. I'm very ready for the boat ramps to be open again so I can get back out on the water.... I'd really love to make a fishing episode, then again, I'm happy with my health. Hope everything is going well and you & your family are healthy. Take care :)
@@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing Yeah health and family are the most important. We are all good up here I have to be extra careful not to bring anything home to my family as I am a first responder. My brother and I are hoping that everything opens up by the end of May so that we can bring our Cape Horn 24xs down to Florida to do some fishing. Our parents live in Brevard county and we fish from Cape Canaveral down to Fort Pierce. If we make it down we should try to hook up and do some offshore fishing. Take care and you and your family stay safe.
I enjoy all your videos, this one included; but I'm confused as to why GPS "ground speed" is more relevant to a pelagic denizen than "water speed." Just as "air speed" is what's important to an airplane pilot, not ground speed, it seems that water speed would be the only speed a lure or fish would be affected by. If your GPS speed (over ground) is 6 knots and you're bucking a 3 knot Gulfstream current, then your "water speed" is 9 knots. Please enlighten me and I apologize in advance for seeming like an inveterate 'Hair Splitter." My family tells me that if I live long enough (I'm 76) , eventually I will be wrong about something. Perhaps this is it. LOL
Water speed is manipulated by the current. So if you're going against the current your water speed will increase. If you go with the current, your water speed is slower than what your reading is. Fish are in the water. They are over their ground space which is the sea floor. You move against the ground to get a real time speed, the water speed is a false reading of how fast you are moving. Hope this helps 😁
Thanks for watching and asking a great question. The answer is yes. A bead or anything that's not abrasive will work as a spacer. You make a great point. Thanks for sharing. Tight lines & take care :)
Well...your hooks have smaller eyes...thats why you are doing this lock...other mustards have larger eyes and there is no way you can do this technique...bdw what brand hooks did you use ??
Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. Mustad has different O'shaugnessy hooks, some have larger eyes. Here's a couple of links to the hooks I use with the smaller eyes, made for making tandem setups: Mustad 5/0 O'SHAUGHNESSY HOOKS bit.ly/3yd8yZA Mustad 8/0 O'SHAUGHNESSY HOOKS bit.ly/3fdBKqE Hope this helps. thanks again for your support of the channel. @@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing ...Thanks Heath...will check on those ..Bdw I am all the way in Kenya ( East Africa)...creek waters are rather muddy green...though we do have Mangroove snappers and Trevallys in and out...neverthless offshore and beyond we do catch dorados /marlins/broad bills / Tunas/Kings/ sail / bonitos/ ....I want to try your lock on the skirt here in creek...shall keep you posted 👍👍
