only been duck hunting about 3 seasons now. usually tie each decoy to a 3oz weight with fishing leader. my buddy let me take his texas rig out the other day and i'm sold. no more fishing leader and dinky egg weights for me.

I have all of my decoys rigged exactly like this. Even my divers (I hunt redheads and cans in water no deeper than 3'). I have set up over 6 dozen decoys by my self and picked up after. Picking up is so fast this way.

Texas rigging is the way to go for sure. The only way I rig my dekes as well. I used to rig using 400lb mono but recently went to coated galv steel cable. Not sure if you have ever used the stuff but man is it great. I also prefer a swivel, but hey we could sit here all day talking about preferences when it comes to waterfowling lol. Thumbs up anyways. Hey, If I hunt a duck pond covered with algae and the water is distilled should I still rig them up or just toss out the decoys into a spread without the rig and weights.

Hey Harrison, does wind ever pick up where you hunt? If it ever gets windy, you'll usually want want your decoys anchored so the wind doesn't change your spread design or clank the decoys together. How deep is the pond usually?

Even after the dog (or yourself) head out to retrieve your first bird or two, that'll move the water and your decoys a pretty good amount if they don't have any weights holding them in place

+Tom Kluft Unfortunately we don't sell the weights (shipping weights is just too expensive). But you can find those weights at just about any fishing/tackle supply store! That's where we get all of ours. If you want to be "very DIY" about it, you can even learn how to pour your own weights!
