I'm starting to collect physical media specifically 4K discs, but I think the standard blurays (which typically come with the 4K, though not always) should be good enough for streaming. They'll take up way less space and probablly good enough quality to stream when I'm not at home etc.
Great Video! I keep my 4ks in m2ts. I play the lossless 4k files from my external harddrive connected to my TV via usb and they play smooth like butter. Also triggers dolbyvision. I Never had issues with buffering. That method works very well for me since I don't have super fast internet to stream them. You're right though, dealing with 4k is not something to take lightly. Have to have the proper equipment for everything to work properly
I think your computer probably does not have H.265 codec hardware decoding capability or it is not enabled hence the slow playback. Also "lossless MKV" is not the best term, since obviously the video (and probably audio as well) are encoded with LOSSY codecs. But it has that meaning of the process of not reencoding...
@@Studio3BRocks Wow I am so glad I found you, you are a God send. I have been breaking my head literately for over 50 hours trying to figure out how or what free software I can use to make a playable Blu- ray disk now that I have the (Make MKV) software. So I now have a MLK file to burn to a Blu-ray disk, but I don't want to burn the image to the Blu-ray, I want to make a playable Blu-ray disk that can simply be put in to my Blu-ray player and boom I start watching the movie, I tried imagburn which some swear it work, I just cannot figure it out, how to find the Root folder for Certificate folder, the ACCS folder, and the BDMV folder to get it to work can you please guide me, I will be another loyal follower of your channel I promise. if possible is there any free software as (make MLK) that doesn't cost anything to do the trick? or will imageburn work if I find the root folders, and if so can you briefly guide me on how to find the root folders for use with imageburn ? thanks
Awesome content here!! Thank you so much for the detailed explanation and the humble ability to recognize feedback, try it, and apply it. Good for you. Quick question: I see you have firmware version WH16NS60 1.03. I just flashed my ASUS with version 1.02 thinking it was the latest version. Would flashing it again with version 1.03 be beneficial (i.e. support newer encryptions). If so, where did you get that bin file with the 1.03 version? Thank you so much!
Correct. You need large hard disk space and enough cpu and ram and gpu. I use about 30 gb ram and a intel xeon processor and nvidia k600 gpu. On a Dell r510.
I like how you explained this video I’m trying to start ripping my 4K movies my question is can you stream from Plex to an Apple TV 4K using a external hard drive connected to mi Mac? or you need a NAS? And if the movie streams on 4K lossless? Thanks!
The movies will stream on 4K with a 4K streamer and 4K tv. Check if Apple TV has a plex app. I use a Roku ultra and it will stream 4K on my Samsung OLED 4K. You can use any computer drive that is large enough to hold the files which are large.
When I use MakeMKV and put the MKV file on my Plex harddrive, it always comes up as 1080p even if the disc is 4K. I used the firmware tool successfully. There doesn't seem to be an option to change the quality in Plex like in your video. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Do you take the ripped files straight to PLEX or do you compress the files through Handbrake? I’ve been using handbrake and the movies play weird, like it looses quality. So I guess I’m asking should I take the raw ripped files straight to PLEX?
Can I use the pioneer BDR-XD07UHD 6x portable usb 3.0 blu-ray to rip 4k using Make mkv then Handbrake? Will any download of firmware be necessary if I do not plan on using this unit to view 4k movies ? Just using to put my 4k movies on plex to stream to other devices. Thank you for all your help. I have a 2008 Mac Pro. Do you know if I can make all this process using this computer? (specially the part conceirned with the internal UHD Blu Ray drive. I don't know about compatibilities)
Looking at the specs "Expansion includes two external 5.25" "optical" bays (one free by default)". That tells me that if the SuperDrive it comes with does not work for UHD, then you have the opportunity to add a drive similar to the one mentioned in this video in the free expansion slot. Cited from EveryMac: everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_pro/specs/mac-pro-eight-core-2.8-2008-specs.html
My drive still works as patched in this video. I haven’t had a need to get a new drive yet. Did you figure out the best latest drive for your budget yet?
MakeMKV beta does not open 4k bluray, I trid whit Ad Astra, and Aquaman and nothing just error, I put down firmware V 1.02 I dont know if I do something wrong
@@Studio3BRocks I have a Lg I convert to BD-RE-HL-DT-ST BD-RE WH16NS60 1.03, Daemon reads it and can copy the files and covert and iso MAKEMKV, does not read them, , but I did not try to burn with a 100gb bluray disc because are to expensive, thanks for your answer
@@moixgris4702 Please make sure you are following these steps. forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19928 after you do that please send me the content of "LibreDrive Info" in makemkv.

So I understand we can't recover the BD's film menu. Also I wouldn't use Plex or any online service since they'll vanish sooner than latter, or eventually ask for a subscription.
just keep downloading and using the nightly builds and you will never have to pay for it. Thats a pain in the but but $60.00 is $60.00. I went ahead and paid because I got tired of doing that.
If you want to stream your media to your tv or be able to access your media outside your house, you will need a media server. Plex, Emby, and Open media Vault are the most popular choices. My media server runs emby. As a side note, Emby will allow you to access your media from outside your network with the free version. You will need a paid plex pass to do that. I am not sure about open media vault.
