Baking Soda causes a chemical reaction that reduces the gases built up with any organic materials and helps reduce the need to burb a barrel.

Should I tumble Sodalite with moonstone? They are close to the same hardness

I wouldn't. Moonstone is so fracturable, that I belive baby-ing it by itself garners the best results.

doesn't seem like that would be a rock i would want to tumble too soft

It is more of an intermediate stone to tumble and requires a bit more babysitting.
