Great video chaps. I have to admit that I struggled with this at the tender age of 47, but I got it in one session. Dropping off kerbs is a good way to practice this and to determine if your are more comfortable with frontside or backside. The next step for me was a ledge to bank, then I took it to the mini ramp. The whole time I was telling myself "It's just a kerb!". And it really is the same technique to go over the edge. Then, as you guys said, you have to lean in more when you roll into transition. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy!

Tik taks always help set me up on rolling in, you never mentioned that but you did a few doing some. Helps setting up and with judgement of speed. Not keen on backside still though.

Yeah, tic tacs can definitely help you prepare for the roll in! And fs is definitely a lot easier than bs for most people

First of all, this is an excellent tutorial. I’ve just gotten drop ins last week, and I haven’t really practiced acid drops off anything higher than a curb. So I will be taking another several weeks to get a Ton of more reps on drop-ins and also be sure to do a bunch of drops off ledges several feet high. Then I’ll give it a go!! Side note, your voice is very reminiscent of Moss from “The I.T. Crowd.” That’s cool too. First time watching your channel, I will continue!

I got some frontside roll ins on a baby quarter last weekend. some of my friends said I did more of an ollie motion rather than a roll in motion. I essentially lifted my nose up really high before slamming it down into the quarter. I cannot help that bc I am a street skater my whole life but I will work on correcting the motion this weekend. I totally know what you mean when he says you want to get all your wait in first but that is pretty scary bc once your weight is in there is no bailing. good tutorial. this weekend I want to learn roll ins on slightly taller quarter pipes

I hope you got the hang of it in the end! A good ollie I’m can look really cool when you get the timing just right!👌🏻

Great tutorial! I don't know how to roll in, but one thing I notice in your video and with anyone who's good at roll ins, is that "something happens" right when/after the front wheels pass the coping. This can be clearly seen at 6:17 for example. It looks like you "fold" your upper body forward quickly, but your back leg also goes from straight to bent very quickly. I recently realised that this motion probably is caused by crouching very quickly, that is, getting the butt low and getting the head in front of your toes. But all this happens very quickly. You're basically "compressing" the body by going from straight to crouched/compressed.

Any tips on potentially hanging up? (Expect for the obvious.. “don’t do it”)

Go faster and if possible try it on a more mellow ramp 👊🏽

When I learnt this... this tip only for backside as it feels less comfortable 'hopping' in than frontside for me. I like to do what I would describe as kind of kickturn in and feeling a small grind on my back truck when rolling in. That way, any weight on my back foot is toe side when I turn in, I'm going a little slower than I would for frontside and have that bit more control, especially on transition that is much steeper/vertical.

Popping your back trucks off a crack on the sidewalk, or off a curb, helps get the feeling of the bonk and motion down.
