Internal storage doesn't show on custom recovery in Android 13 for now. So its the only method.You can also use otg instead of micro sd card.

If any updated custom recovery available which supports android 13 then we don't need external storage. And soon on next update custom recovery will fully support A13 and will show internal storage on custom recovery
