I think it looks good, can’t wait to see the finished product, I watched the AWD swap on the 88 Chevrolet K1500 that you lowered on truck tech and I know what you are capable of my friend, keep up the good work LT.
i actually liked your project Redtide when you did that truck a while back. i would love to build an AWD shop truck/ winter beater like this one! Awesome, can't wait to see more!
I pray that one day, that you do a segment/video/tech talk on upgrading OBS-GMT400 Brake upgrade/swap and or using converting GMT800,900 brake components. As an OBS owner (1995 c1500 single stepside Show Trucks USA/Mark 3 variation) the brakes just plan suck, some companies like Pro Performance sells a kit that beats up peoples wallets, but there has to alternatives out, and the fact that you know your way around these platforms and your skill set makes all of OBS folks wonder what you would have to say.. Not to many other companies focused on the GMT400 which is sad, alot them are still on the road to this very day, some modded or still plain ole fashion original! Love the content, this truck reminds me of the 1 you lowered on the show and made the custom mount for. BTW Congrats on breaking 55k subs, next stop 100k! Stay safe, and as always thanks for sharing your work!
What I did with my suburban was crank the torsion bars up front. Drop the rear about 2 inches and threw 33s on it. Sits perfectly level and looks perfect
T H A N K Y O U I've been on the bad end of this argument, and there is plenty of functionality retained when lowering a 4x4! Ya don't have to lift it to clear obstacles you will never encounter.
I would have left the front up cause I've noticed on Chevy trucks the steering gets easier if the rears lower and also for the weight transfer, but not my truck. I'm sure you're probably in an HOA community but I would have beat those shackle bolts on the inside with an air hammer dropping the spare and those bolts might have come out without removing the bed. But good work LT.
I say lift/level the 2500 & 3500s, lower/level the 1500s in the GMT800 platform, just my opinion. I like every body style lowered or lifted in the GMT400 platform tho, they all look great!
Lower awd/4wd trucks are sporty, but I'm almost concerned for your new climate. It snows a lot in the mountains. 4wd doesn't help much if you're plowing snow with your front end. I know it's a project and you can just drive your AT4 in the winter while this truck stays parked. Most guys only have 1 or 2 vehicles, so they can't truly focus on on-road performance like this. Lifted trucks have their place in extremely rural areas with less road maintenance where the roads are the last in line to get snow plowed, if they get plowed at all. I like stockish height trucks. Trucks lose their utilitarian value if you have to pick heavy stuff up too much higher to load the bed. I like full wheelwells in stock height trucks. I'll be putting some 285/75R16s on my 90 k2500 Silverado and lowering the torsion bars just enough to clear the tires with no rubbing. I've heard 35s are achievable with stock wheels and generous trimming. Anyway, I don't necessarily like lowering my own 4x4 trucks, but I can definitely see how it will be a monster on the pavement. I'm interested in seeing how this truck pans out. Keep up the good work!
Full race truck it, cut the bed for sstep notch and give her the boost, 4wd trucks like this are awesome lowered and boosted. Don’t worry about uniqueness just do what it wants.
There is a company called atomic fab to convert the front end to a coil over so you can ditch the torsion bars and that cross member so you can also drop the trans and the t case as one instead of separately
Looks Awesome! Hopefully someday I will be able to add a lowered 4X4 or AWD truck to my fleet or possibly modify my 69 C10 to a low 4X4 or AWD. As always another great video & thank you for sharing.
Iv been a fan of you L.T for a very long time it feels like. I never knew u had a ext cab obs truck. I commented a while back about the center console stuff. I have a 98 ext cab it's a pretty nice ol truck. I wish 1 day I could build it into a turbo ls and stick shift awd. Very be expectations for a auto 2wd truck. Lol. Keep the awesome content coming it gives me hope. Who knows I might start that after I get my ek sedan done.
Oh man. My truck being from Minnesota i just worked back to what actually came off. So i ended up with new leak springs because of all the seized parts
A drop of 2-1/4” front and 3” rear is still very noticeable and yes the drop will by default allow the truck to handle better. Yes I’m one of those guys that says if you want it low buy a car because Trucks especially 4X4 Trucks are meant to be lifted not lowered. That said, it does look better and I can only assume it handles better especially in turns. At least it’s not a DONK, those are garbage that costs thousands just to still be garbage after all the fab work just like lowered trucks.
I usually lower my trucks too. People tell me I ruin it whether it’s 2wd or 4wd. I say it’s easier to load stuff in the back. You ruin that with a lift. I just got an 03 Tahoe 4wd. I’ll be lifting that. My first one.
I got the same truck but 2wd, you should do the leaf spring hanger drop to get an extra 2 inches. That way it looks better and I get an idea of how of a pain in the ass it would be to do it lol
save some time and do a review on the speed engineering long tubes and Axel dump or side exit. I know you can fabricate so I would just be interested to hear what you think about those. love the channel, I'm building basically this exact same truck, your about caught up to me though after this video.
LOOKS GREAT BETTER HANDLING WITH THE LOWER CENTER OF GRAVITY BUT RETAIN THE 4X4 CAPABILITY WANT TO DO THIS ON A 2000 YUKON BUT HAVE TO DO IT DIFERENTLY CAUSE NO LEAF SPRINGS
I have the same truck but planning on doing a simple lift and tire setup like all the 4x4 dudes love but I’m super curious to see where you go with your build . 6.0 all wheel drive maybe? Love your content bud.
It looks clean I'm going to do that to my truck did you have to mess with the dry shafts you didn't do nothing on the video so I assume you didn't they work but I don't like assuming thanks
I just bought a 99 Silverado single cab shortbed it has 5 speed with long tube headers lo ram intake stage 3 cam stage 3 tranny build and clutch kit The kid that sold it doesn’t know how to work on trucks it had a bad rocker arm i bought the truck for $1000 lmao I can’t wait to lower it and twin turbo that bitch lmfao
Instead of pulling the bed, sawzall on both sides inside that frame bracket through the bolt. Had to do it for those, control arms etc... Good heavy metal blade goes a long way. Question: pinion angle change by only changing rear spring position? I think I need to adjust mine after some alterations...
Maybe a dum question, can I just remove the leaf spring block or do I need the lowering shackles? I just want to level the back of the truck to the front I’m not planning on lowering, hope someone can answer that question.
Im a die hard GM 4wd guy. while it drives me absolutely insane seeing a lowered 4wd, it depends on what youre doing with the truck. The truck you built on Truck Tech was a decent truck to say the least when you swapped the front end with a NP246.
How did this small drop affect ride quality? Does it ride smoother up front? Does it now have less ‘bucking’ front to back and side to side when driving on rough roads and over speed bumps?
Yeah I'm torn. I like the truck but for 4x4 I would have went up. You have ugly truck for low and fast. O well whats done is done im still going to watch what you end up doing with it but up would have been cool.
Hey how’s it going brother good video👏🏽, I have a question and really need some help figuring out my situation I have a 05 gmc sierra single cab on a 2/7 drop an after I dropped the truck on a flip kit and hangers it won’t stop riding stiff it bounces for every single little bump I recently added shock extenders and it didn’t do a difference any suggestions on how I can fix it?
depends on how they lifted the truck, but if they just cranked the torsion keys or did a leveling kit, just swap out the leveling kit parts for stock ones and then you can lower it like I did
i like it, i was a big fan of your dodge / ford build off in powerblock. i have that f150 minus the platinum part and i really liked how that turned out. I want to do similar to mine, i think my wife would like it cuz she's super short heh.
Did the same to my NBS Z71, but I didn't have to use the keys, I just backed mine off a ways. Next is a flip with a notch and the 2 inch spindles. Do it!!
No complaints doing a 2/3 drop on my Ram 4wd. I’ve done the lifted route before, and I hardly ever even use 4wd, so it’s pretty pointless for me. Plenty of other mall crawlers around that can get the attention they want.
I have 04 Silverado 4x4 with 3/4 drop with DJM kit ( control arm/shackle). I bought new, modified it within 2 weeks and my neighbor never know it was 4x4. First deep snow day of their surprised look was price less. I never go off-road by the way, but looks and handles much better that couldn’t be happier.
Looks great to me. When you guys did the low red OBS truck, I was motivated to do one for myself. Haven't found the right truck yet, but I keep looking, and it will happen. Not so concerned about AWD, just a nice stance that still allows for winter traction. Thanks for sharing this one with us. And hello from North Idaho!
I'm not saying you have to borrow the war whistle from ugly truck to throw at this LS but would it be such a tragedy if it happened and you had to put drag radials all around and launch on 4 hi?
I have a 2001 chevy stepside with 22 inch snowflakes, with a 6-4 drop and it is also 4x4. I hear it all the time that I ruined the truck. But to each there own. Love the truck man
You know what else was lowered? GMC Syclone. PLEASE do an AWD conversion and turbo the 4.8 as a Syclone homage, very fitting for a short bed black truck.
