Yo Maxwell what’s ur fastest 1K or mike, and 5K?
@thepsychologist8159
@thepsychologist8159 2 года назад
Good job Maxwell. You're definitely in the zone to achieve a sub-90. One thing that helped me to achieve this, in addition to the recommended training tips the likes suggested in this video, is I bought myself a treadmill. This allowed me to get comfortable with the required pace and hold it. As you may know, an average sub-90 half-marathon pace is 14.1 km/h. So, once I got up to peak fitness I'd dial it up to 14.5 km/h with a 1% incline, and run at that pace for as long as I could. I didn't do this often, preferring to run outdoors, but it allowed me to quantify the required pace, get comfortable running at that pace, which allowed me to achieve the 'per km' race pace required when I was out on the training course. Note: I set a higher pace on the treadmill to compensate for outdoor conditions and to train my body to be comfortable running at a slightly faster pace.

I've been pushing progressively faster and harder each race. This looks like a good goal to shoot for. Though I'd be happy with a sub-7 min half as well. I turned 40 this year and keep hitting new PRs. Running my best ever thanks to all the training tips I've gotten from your site. Doing my first half marathon in 2 weeks time in Liverpool and my first marathon on April 3rd next year in Manchester. When I started training for the half marathon 10 weeks ago after a large break from running I was hoping to complete it in under 2.5 hours. Thanks to my training and getting back into shape I am now hoping to complete it in under 2 hours assuming reasonable conditions on the day. One thing I did find useful as a novice runner was running in a few 10km races instead of my normal long runs during my training as it has made me aware of how easy it is to run faster than intended on race days which I just about got away with in the 10km races but doubt I will be so lucky in a Half Marathon. On the topic of intervals while I can definitely see their benefit they would take the fun out of running for me as they are too regimented, the closest I come to running intervals is what you would probably consider "fartleks" as I pick up the pace on some strava segments on my route to see if I can beat my PB on them and slow down between them. I also have to confess to being unable to follow your Tempo runs as I currently lack the fine control over my running pace to reliably differentiate between easy, HM and Marathon pace

Thank you Andy: useful stuff. As ever. I'm currently considering the Downton half-marathon on December 5, having done the full Southampton Marathon on September 5 and the Bournemouth Supersonic 10k October 10. I'm reckoning that, carefully considered, I can devise a seven week training plan that will taper me down to a base to train up to what I am trying to think of as a training run. That is: nothing heroic. By the way, Andy & team, I did my first marathon last year on the same course as seen on your video, at Wimborne St Giles. When the New Forest Marathon was eventually cancelled I stopped marathon training. About a fortnight later they organisers announced a new venue (it's usually run in the outskirts of Brockenhurst -- a bus ride for me) for a limited number of participant. Imagining one would have to apply I took no action. I got the bib in the post six days before the event! Not only was I only keeping parkrun fit, for "not-a-parkrunning", I had to hire a car to get there. I can't imaging how the landowner, Lord Shaftsbury, gets about? The nearest station is Salisbury, about twelve miles away, and the nearest bus stop is outside the station. To cut a long, tedious and painful story short, I tweaked my sciatic nerve a little over half way round and limped the last eight miles in agony. Still, I did manage to qualify for the banana. And the splendid T-shirt. Time: 5:17. Pleased to report that I was fit enough to walk, if a little gingerly, to the pub that evening and it only took a couple of days to recover.

This is a lot of intensity in this training program! I ran a 10K at 44:27 this weekend and most of my runs are long easy runs at 6 min / km for +18 km. You don't address the 80/20 / polarized training idea, but to me, this reads as a lot of intensity. I would need to balance the intensity vs how much motivation I can sustain/mobilize for a session and how intensity my body can handle! Just adding a lot of intensity in both intervals, long runs and variations makes me think that who ever can handle this is just a beast that can handle both endurance and speed and I'm wondering if they even need a plan. Thanks for the video, gave me a lot of ideas!

Amazing!! I can’t believe you can chat while doing this - super impressive. My best half was run in 1:46:20 and that was just me doing only easy runs because I didn’t really know how to properly train with workouts at that time? Running another half on Halloween in a few weeks to reassess my fitness but I’m guessing I’ll be around 1:55:00. Sigh.

Just missed out on a sub 1:35 a couple of weeks back, but improved on my previous attempt by a couple of minutes in warmer conditions so can't complain.

A great effort from Andy there. No benefits of working in a pack, running on grass, warm weather and he's recording a video.

Andy gives good advice that can be adapted to every level. My best ever HM time was 1.43 (twice) but now, at 68, I’m struggling to get 2.15. If I was still in the 1.40 region I think I could possibly have looked at sub 1.30. As it is I’m wondering if I can nudge back towards 2.00?

Just did my first half today. Grand crus marathon, Dijon, France. 2h.33. Only been running since the first lockdown which is what inspired me but haven't ran for the last 2 months so could have done better but I was happy to finish. I think the 1st position was about 1h16min.

That was EASY! Well done, I'd love to run a 1:45, 1:30 is well beyond my level.

Running my second half next Saturday. I have A/B/C goals. A is a sub 2 hour, which will be tough, I ran my first 55 minute 10k recently. B is PR, so anything less than 2:12 and C is just finish. Honestly anything over C will be icing on the cake since I’m in my first year of really running.

I ran a 1:30:06 at Bournemouth Half yesterday. I'm slightly gutted that I just missed the magic 90 minutes but I was aiming for 92, so trying to remember that and celebrate the achievement! Annoyingly, I paced perfectly to a 4:15 average, but the extra 300m recorded on my watch took me over.

I did my first at Salisbury(very flat)last week in 1:44:12, not bad for an old git who only started at new year?(was well over 14 stone and could barely jog 100m!) thinking sub 1:30 is the logical eventual target,til i realised the pace needed is pretty much my best parkrun time i did yesterday at 21:02! its pretty much my totally flat out for me. But never say never,amazed myself this year so who knows maybe one day!
