Instead of writing the "yourlink.com", use "//yourlink.com" which will use whatever protocol is active. This is a great way to add links to your site that may not be secure and not have your site break.
Hi Rick. SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer. It is the standard security technology for communication between a web browser and a server. When a secure connection is present (indicated by a green padlock to the left of the web page URL in the address field of the browser) the user knows the information being transmitted is not readable by anyone else in between. Right now Google is most concerned by sites that users enter their passwords on. Since Chrome version 56, they have been giving users a warning that their connections are not secure enough for trusting their personal info to. It's a great step to help people get phished (tricked into entering their details on fake sites).
Sorry, I can't be of any help to you. I have always struggled with certificates even in cpanel, which is why I use Let's Engrypt SSL certificates for my sites and those of my clients - they are free and automatic. I've never learned how to use Linux.
Thanks for making such a nice video sir, but I am having some problems. I have bought dedicated SSL certificate for my website and it's successfully installed but when I click on Force SSL under global configuration menu and apply the changes the https goes read with struck-through and still shows not a secure connection. I don't know what the problem is. Please help me.
Hi Amit, I suspect the problem may be that you still have content on that page being served up from a non SSL source. If you email me your website url I'll have a quick look and confirm this - tim@cybersalt.com
Hi, I managed to get a certificate for my website but I don't know how to install it. I have the 3 files (bundle, certificate and key). The server is IONOS and I don't know if I can use this external certificate....
You will probably have to contact Ionos support for help. BTW, Ionis used to be named 1and1. I once tried to help a client who hosted with them and it was such a bad experience I will never log on to their system again unless it was to help someone move to a different host. That said, if you are sure you are staying with them, you'll have to contact them for instructions. BTW, Ionis does say they offer a free ssl certificate with their hosting packages at www.ionos.ca/help/ssl-certificates/tips-for-setup-and-use/secure-your-website-with-ssl-encryption/ Good luck if you do stay with them!
@@Basicjoomla No, since I am doing this work as an internship and the server and all were provided I can't change it, and from what I saw, Ionos does not seem to allow external certficate... Anyways thank you for your help !
Hi Tim...did everything that you taught, but I am getting a Not Secured with a line crossing out the https. When I try bring up the web site I'm getting Your Connection is Not Private. Can't figure it out. Thanks
I have to purchase a dedicated IP with my hosting plan. Once I do that I'll be able to have the site as an SSL site. Figures, nothing for nothing anymore. But that's ok. I've been with this hosting site for years and anytime I screw up they fix it for me. thanks Tim....I'm now following you and love your tutorials. Richard
