Thank you. I finally got the answer I was looking for in the difference between pouring and fluid mediums. I thought they were the same, now I know one affects the transparency. Thanks again

using gel medium, my go to ratio is 1 part paint to 1/4 part gel medium. if its too thick you'll come out with peaked paint, it needs to be smooth enough to work with. I have another video on making acrylic paints that deals with gel medium too.

My pleasure 😊 Bubbles can be tricky, it could be that your mixing too vigorously but i know they can still appear. I have seen people sometimes put the tray or paint pot they mixed their colors in on a table top and then use something that vibrates on the table and it can make the bubbles pop and surface to the top. you can try it out and see if it works.

I have been dot painting for about 5 years now. Just can’t get enough. I have tried all kinds of mediums. I finally found the best method! I listened to an artist from India… she uses water to thin and air to thicken! Go figure!😳😒

Same here, cannot stop painting. Lol I actually use water often myself, but I've never heard of air, that's definitely an interesting one. Thanks for sharing ❤️☺️

Hi! Just discovered your tutorials, Thankyou! I have a question. Why would you thin or thicken any DecoArt Paint? When it can be used right out of the bottle. Having said that, Folk Art is notorious for being thick along with art alchemy, Lumiere, Arteza, times when a pouring medium is required. Sorry I went back and listened again. 🙂

Hi Loretta, I think a safe ruler of thumb to why i thicken or thin out decoart paints it based on what material I'm using it for. I found that even on ornaments that can run, so i use a tiny amount of gel medium to thicken them. Also if I want to put my paint in a bottle the consistency should be a little thicker than what it is in the bottle, or via using cones. To thin Decoart usually isnt really relevant however if its an old bottle it can tend to be a bit clumpy and refreshing it with pouring medium can help. it also can help stretch your paint if you have little to none left. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

I’m brand new to this,so if I’m using paper, and have apple barrel paint,do I have to thicken or thin, remember brand new so I’m trusting your quite, thank you, wish me luck😊😅💐

Hi Laurie! I honestly do not recommend you using paper to paint on, only because thin paper will tend to warp, fold, and bend significantly. A heavy cardstock is ideal and anything more dense than that is great. If you are using apple barrel, that paint is a very soft body paint already, it's also a cheaper paint (its what i started out with) and i found myself not needing to thin it out at all, or i do a few droplets of water or 1:1/2 ratio(paint-pouring medium). If you thicken the paint then i would suggest using a 1:1 ratio, (paint-gel medium). If the paint peaks when you dot, add a little water to thin it back out. The trick is to have a consistency of thin yogurt or melted ice cream. @@lauriebieda4498

Hi Thanks for reaching out! I'm so sorry for delay! Normally if paints are a hard body and are super thick, you need to thin them out by adding water. Acrylic paint consists of three items. Binder which is the gel medium, that's the thickness of your paint, the pigment which is the color and a solvent which is what makes the binder stick to the surface. I have another video on my playlist that explains this method well. its called, Mixing Acrylic paint with mica powder. I would recommend watching it.
