I'm 62 and haven't sailed in almost 50 years and now want to get back in the seat. Best instructor and sailing video I've seen. . . . .just make the sails happy! Well done!
I have been watching beginner videos to prepare for my first sailing class, this is by far the best video on sailing basics out there. Thank you so much for such quality video and clear explanation.
Have sailed 1000's of miles & I already know this stuff but haven't sailed for many years now. Seeing this makes me want to get a boat like this and just go weekend sailing. Lovely, calm, quality video 👌
I listen to a Ch 16 radio and all I hear is “I’m on a 24’ sailboat and my engine has died, can someone please tow me or help bc I’m drifting towards rocks now!” Or “mayday Mayday, my sailboat engine failed, I’m bout to hit something” then I hear the CG has to come rescue someone. Please always use sail or don’t rely on your engine bc it will break
Really great job teaching the basics of sailing! I've been sailing since the 1970's, and I learned on a 30' boat. Later when I went to a dingy, I found that learning on the dinghy is really imperative for understanding how to really fine tune sail trim, as you really get to feel every slight change through your fingers and seating position. What you are doing is fantastic as you demonstrate every point of sail and how your sails react in all situations, which will give confidence to anyone starting out even before they get on the boat. Well done!
Short from not being able to see the wind as an visual element, I'm a newbie, at 51yrs old, so in my head whilst I have the principles and theories, and have watched many videos, this one video was really good as it was common repeated actions being undertaken and being clearly explained. Seeing how the boat and sails reacted and what happens during different points and positions of reaches, as well as when to be extra aware of the boom, what to do when there is too much wind/gust, when you're at risk of capsizing and what can be done to help prevent that (which apart from hitting another vessel or body boarder is one of my bigger fear as I'll always be solo), so I'll be watching and listening to this video quite a few times since the information within it is going to be very helpful as I learn and practice. Thank you so much Igor.
Total newbie here and I enjoyed seeing the "what not to do" as much as the correct method. Particularly with a skill like sailing where you can get "good enough" results while still doing it incorrectly, it's quite useful to see the visuals of "ok" trim versus really good trim. Great video, packed with good info!
When I was a kid I used to go sailing with my father until we capsized one day and he got scared. Next week I’m going home and I’ll get that boat back on the lake. Thank you so much for this video! You reminded me how fun sailing is. Sending love from Romania 🤗
Super high quality video for anyone who wants to understand what it's like to be at the tiller/helm of a dinghy or small keelboat. Amazing setting and Igor is just perfect in his approach to share the joy of sailing. Tip of the hat sir!!
Thank you Igor for such a fantastic video 👏 Complete newbie at 52 and watched a lot of confusing videos, however this one was so clear and precise.. Also showing what happens when it's done incorrectly is such a great help.. You are an a bsolute star! 👍
When I was in grade school I had the opportunity to sail a Mayflower (like a beamy sunfish) at camp. Half a century later I have never had a chance to sail again but I never forgot the joy. Now as I am retiring I really want to get a sailing dinghy for my wife and I to do some lake sailing. Your video gives me confidence that I can do it again. It seems like the sloop rig is not that much harder than the single sail.
Great video! I just started my sailing classes a couple of weeks ago (I’m aiming for the helmsman certification), and you Igor are explaining exactly the same concepts I’ve been learning here at my local sailing school, while already experienced much of the things you mention about moving in the boat, handling the jib ropes and so on. Again, very, very nice video. Cheers from Argentina!
Best video I've watched that actually gave a clear explanation of how sailing works, it makes a lot of sense after having been one time in the water last week on a double handed dinghy. Thanks Igor!
Great video for beginner sailors on the basic principles of catching the wind, navigating the boat and how to speed up and slow down. Great job. Love the video!
I'm only at the beginning of the video but your "in the light wind, oooh I know how to sail" just cracks me up 🤣 this could totally be me during my first attempt to sail 🙏🙏🙏
dude u should be a teacher , your vocabulary is so down to earth and you are such a humble and simple person that it s a pleasure to learn from you , really you should be a credited RYA teachers d pay money to learn from you .
@@IgorStropnik if u need a helping hand on one of your trips I d love to help in exchange of somme sailing experience at the moment I m looking to join somme sailing boats on somme routs ,best wishes
Perfect video for anyone wishing to learn to sail. Good clear instructions on sail trim, rudder position and boat balance on all points of sail. It has everything! Another great sailing video from you Igor, well done 👍.
The reason it is great bc it’s just about sailing and not bogged down with all the details. I think when I had lessons before at the stage you start to sail, I was already feed 10 thousand commands that I was just tired. The boat goes opposite direction of the tiller and how to manage the sails and the tiller at the same time. I thank you. How to read tell tails, now I understand how to sail, so now i can get to practice.
Thank you very much, Igor for creating this wonderful videos. You are way much better at explaining and demonstrating than many sailing instructors! Much appreciated! I giggled every time when you said “Tail Tail” and it’s so cute ❤
Wow! I so much enjoy this! So many things learned in one video. Preparing myself to start sailing the new-to-me 1979 Buccaneer 18. Thank you very much for posting.
I just got a sailing membership with a local club, and I’m excited to “embark” on my sailing journey this summer! Winds where I live are pretty light in the summer, so it should be good for learning. Anyways, wow! You presented so clearly in this video. It was a great recap of everything they crammed into my brain during the intro lesson. Also, what a beautiful spot you are sailing in!
I'm learning the theories before I start a real class and this is the best video I've found so far. Beautiful, simple and straight to the point. I wish you all the success!
since I was raised on small boats with fishermen, as an adult I never knew what wind indicators were. everyone just knew where the wind was blowing from. you saw it when you left the house and looked at the surface of the sea. great video, nice to see you again.
@@IgorStropnik as I noticed, this is what you do by driving wonderful boats across the oceans. Although you can also use electronics properly. good luck skipper
Me and my family are taking a sailing course next week. We try to prepare us a little bit. This is the best video because I understand most. Thank you very much!
Absolutely loved this. I have sailed on a couple of occasions years ago but never understood what the hell was going on. I just pulled on some ropes and things happened. I now understand what was happening. great job, well done pal.💯
Wached video to refresh the basics of sailing. Thank you a lot! Very informative, brief, clear explanations. All typical situations were taken apart and shown practically. 👏👏👏
Now months after my earlier post, and this video is so good, I’ve been posting in so many different places for people to go to Ivor’s RU-vid Channel to find it, that I lost count ages ago. Best introduction to Sailing Ever imho, and Igor should get an award for it imho. I can only hope that we meet up some time, and I’ll be able to get him a Meal to Remember, for his Services to Sailing. Awesome job. Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob in Wales 👍🏴⛵️
Igor you rock thank you I'm 70 and dyslexic had real hard time at school and have hate teacher's all my life but don't hate you your an excellent teacher my friend
Excellent. I rarely saw better videos about any subject. This is clear and helps to gain confidence for major basic issues while sailing. Thank you so much. 👍👍
I've learned so much from this video!! Great teaching style, thank you for doing things repeatedly, it really helps. Looking forward to learning more on your channel! ⛵
Thank you Igor, i started sailing in local french club ( i’m not french speaker ) this was great video to understand what they had been trying to teach me 😅 .
I don't know how to sail, but been on sail boat before. I think, it is great video to learn how to sail on a small boat. I all ways wanted to learn sailing, but never had the time or money. Also, the energy, I'm T2 diabetic for the last 25 years. One has to start young, is the best.
Thank you so much. You made it feel very accessible, while also leaving the impression that A LOT of practice is needed for all of this to become second nature. Where you are sailing looks a bit like Lake Zurich. If that is where you are, we visit there sometimes. Perhaps we can go out on the water together.
Oh, great work! I am from Hong Kong and just start learning how to sail, well also picking up windsurfing at the same time😂, the previous sunday was my first time trying sailing, got hit by the mansail couple times, well we all wore a helmet anyway🤣. Found your clip is even better than our coach, more punchy and informative! And god, yours view is picturesque, wish one day I can come sailing there and maybe can be taught by you!
Thank you Igor. I don't know when I'll have the chance to sail, if ever but hopefully one day. I watched this video through and I will watch it again when the time comes! Thanks again.
Excellent video sir. Thank you for the information it was concise and excellently delivered. I'm looking forward to my sailing journey and you played a part. Thanks again.
Great informative video,l am a 70 year old who has not sailed since l was a child, and then I was only in control of the gib, you’ve relit the idea to give it another go 👍
I am gonna say one thing to describe my experience watching this whole video... "You're a really good teacher... 😅" Thank you for making this video... 😇
