I salt several different things for bait, in fresh and salt water. The process is exactly the same for all of them. Whether it's cheap smoked sausage or hotdogs for catfish, or minnows, shrimp, or sand fleas (mole crabs), I use kosher salt too, only I use containers that don't seal airtight. This lets your bait go full mummy. It will keep for.....a long time. Shrimp and minnows get tough as a piece of rubber tire, so the educated fish (mostly sheepshead) around the bridge pilings can't get it without getting hooked.
Great video! It's evident that you work very hard putting these together. I live in Austin and love visiting Rockport. Now, the next time I visit, and salt my shrimp, I may be doing more than just feeding the piggy perch and hardheads since my bait will stay on the hook better!
Salted shrimp I make takes 7-14 days and last a year in the refrigerator. I also buy the Wally World calamari rings and cut them into strips and salt as well use as bait by themselves or use them on a spoon for a trailer. Food coloring on the squid after salted then let dry again
Wow, some old dude told me about this method a long time ago. Wasn’t sure wether to believe him or not. Guess he wasn’t lying! lol thanks for the refresher.
A technique from my childhood 60+years ago. It does work but we used rock salt. Never heard of Kosher 60 years ago. Occasionally we could find non iodine salt but was rare. We did it to squid mostly and shrimp rarely. Good vid.
To hot out there we need some rain can’t wait till. September bullreds, reds and flounder start running next month nice setups. Salted shrimp works you’re right Paul’s has good bait and seafood.
Tried salted shrimp for first time this morning. First cast Whiting. 2nd cast Oyster toad 😂 3rd cast 19’ trout! Sheeesh guess this salt on the shrimp does work
Good video. The water clarity awful this summer all up & down TX coast this summer. I’ve got same Penn 6 rod / reel. I’m satisfied with price and performance
Shrimp are great baits--but what also works well is lobster. And don't neglect Fillet Mignon, cut it up in little baits. In general, the highest priced human foods make perfect fish baits. Just don't worry about the costs, you get fresh fish out of the deal.
Thanks for the footage. A quick vid of you spooling those reals up might be worth a watch for some. I have my ways but am curious how others do it. Are you gonna run braided on both?
@@davidjames4677 no I don't use mono. I tried and did not crae for it. I just spool until I feel it's right. Sometimes I get it wrong tho. Put too much line on
Sea salt with a pinch of garlic powder..use local shrimp..if you want to use the bait in freshwater add add a little anise..i dont buy artificials anymore except gulp and what i put above..also works on squid
I have 3 of the penn combos. Work great, but still require you clean/grease them after the surf. Not as smooth as the japanese brands, but who cares. Heb has unmarked bags of peeled. They worked fine.
If you don’t mind sharing. Where did you purchase your spin fisher combo from for that that great price? What a deal you got! I only find them for around 240 dollars.

@@texasbeachbum Transporting them in those bumper holder are brutal on the rods and reels. Rod tubes or socks at least, reel bags and don't put them together till you get to the water. If cleaned and lubed, salt rated reels should last years (When I'm able to fish on the coast, my rods and reels get a shower before I do). Whatever you do never endorse crap no matter how much free stuff a sponsor gives you.
Excellent video, EXCELLENT! I have seen hundreds of texas coast videos, you explain in detail, very professional.. I am tagging my fishing buddies on the Salted Shrimp.. thank you for taking the time..
