I had a sponge with the same type of abrasive scrubber, (what we called Scotch Bright in USN) on one side, like the ones shown in the video. I ran hot water and squeezed out as much of the soap that was in it, and rinsed for about two mins. The sponge was placed in a M/W Safe bowl and into the M/W. I ran the M/W at full, 900W power for 2mins, as per the video. I took the bowl out when the cycle had finished. I ran straight hot water from the tap, wearing a heat resistant glove, and took the sponge from the bowl and ran the hot water over it, and began squeezing the sponge to remove the sterilized contents from the sponge. After the 2nd squeezing, the sponge began to disintegrate in chunks in my hand... . Needless to say, I decided to try other sponge sterilization videos. Sure enough, the 2min video was twice the time as the other vids. Some even recommend alternating with the auto dishwasher and M/W. I never would've dreamed the sponge and Scotch Brite type scrubber would just Chunk, like it did. That one definitely got replaced... Chunked right into the trash container! Y'all hang in there, ya hear!?!

What about boiled water? Does that work?

@@omifunkemccloud3362 If boiling water for 2mins is supposed to purify it so that it's safe to drink, then one could think it would work for this.

I have a 1500 W microwave, that thing would become powder if I left it in for 2 mins. I might try it for 30 seconds.

How I clean my sponges and make them last long! I soak them in a mixture of equal parts rubbing alcohol and cold water overnight. In the morning, I take them out, rinse them well, and then spray a generous amount of Lysol on them. Then I squeeze them a few times to work the Lysol in and finally rinse them for a 1-2 minutes under hot running water! This keeps them smelling and looking fresh and clean for 1-1.5 years and I do it weekly! Feel free to share your method of sponge cleaning with me! Also if you try the method I use, I'd love to hear how it goes!😁

To do this you only need two things...... your sponge, water, a microwavable dish and your microwave! 😂🤣😅

@@StatUpBoxI guess you need to go back to preschool and learn to count. Lol 😂 I'm just teasing! It's just funny. I mean maybe you don't count the sponge because that's what you are cleaning...and water probably doesn't count either because everyone should have that. So two things : the microwave and the bowl! There ya go! Lol 😂

Maybe because it's a puny 700 watt unit that it takes 2 minutes? How long for a 1100 watt microwave oven?

What about rinsing it in hot water, squeezing it out, and pouring some rubbing alcohol, or white vinegar, on it? Then rinsing it out again in hot water.. How would that work?

Nope. And your microwave and entire kitchen will smell like moldy socks for several weeks afterward.

My sister likes to nuke her sponges, I like to throw them away and use a new one. How did your channel get the name StatUpBox?
@StatUpBox
@StatUpBox 5 лет назад
We like to do both, i guess it can depend on the occasion 🍷. It was a Team collaborated effort of words and ideas, then we decided to mash it up. Maybe for our 100 k subs celebration will say how the final decision was made on the name StatUpBox a sort of a last minute change.😉

Actually it’s a myth microwaving sponges don’t actually clean them. It can actually make it worse…. www.google.ca/amp/s/www.haaretz.com/amp/cleaning-a-dirty-sponge-only-helps-its-worst-bacteria-study-says-1.5440783

Ok this is stupid! If you spill food in the microwave. And keep cooking and spilling, is ALL that spilled nasty food now DISINFECTED???? 🤔don’t clean anything anymore just cook your old crust undies in the microwave and throw them back on! That sweat stained t-shirt, microwave and wear it to work in 2 minutes!
@eri-bee
@eri-bee Год назад
YIKES, so loud & yet so wrong!! Do you seriously not know that heat kills bacteria? The microwave heats the water molecules to boiling…boiling water is a very simple method of disinfection-we use it to sterilize medical equipment, baby bottles, pretty much anything made of metal, plastic or glass. In the case of a wet sponge, YES this method will sanitize it by killing off the microbes held in the sponge… and YES the food you spill in there will also be disinfected of bacteria, barring some rare food-borne poisons like staph. And you could wash your clothes in there too, if ALL you wanted to do was sterilize it. You’d still be left with any odours or discolouration though.
