How to extend the life of your blades? First, use use the blade as in the video. Second, measure the blade travel (easy: measure the amount of blade worn as you showed in the video. For the sake of this discussion, let's say it is one inch.). Third: build a rudimentary/simple/basic/down&dirty accessory table. Nothing fancy... I would use two pieces of 1/2 inch plywood screwed & glued together for a total thickness of 1 inch. Clamp the accessory table to the jigsaw table with a slot to accommodate the blade. The slot probably should be about 1/4 inch wide or so. So, now your blade will be cutting one inch higher, on another section of the blade that still has teeth on it. You could repeat this process with a second thicker accessory table or perhaps reverse the blade so the it cuts on the upstroke, thereby using three sections of your blade. I/you might experiment with the concept of "friction cutting" if you have a bandsaw: use a worn out blade and run the saw at it's fastest speed. The worn-out blade cuts with friction, not using the teeth at all for the cutting process. This process is used for cutting hardened steel, so it should work with sandpaper. MY ONLY CONCERN is getting all that abrasive dust in my machines!

So the ones that I have seen with really good woodworkers it is a yellow 2 inch sandpaper not sure how they get it or where they get it from, but it’s a little bit different than the aluminum oxide cloth. I think it has to do with maybe how aggressive aluminum oxide is to wood just something to look into. Have a great one!

Laser cutter or use a thin metal cutoff wheel to cut the sand paper.

Awesome idea.. Cant help but wonder considering its not supposed to end up an accurate tool rather a mess of abrasive strips, couldnt you just cut them with a scissors a few at a time instead of using the scroll saw ?

Why didnt you try using iron scissors or tin snip type scissors?.

Nicely done! I was just wondering, “Hmmm... I wonder if you could cut your strips into the sandpaper with a scroll saw...” and you have proven that heck yeah, you can! (I’ll make sure to buy a buttload of cheap blades in preparation for the project) Also, oh man, I share your water jet dreams! You can have one of those in an apartment, right? ☺️
