I tried every other RU-vid instruction on how to press back a pesky back that refused to pop back in. Brute force, press with a plank of wood, press down full body weight with handle of spanner, hammer, pliers , bice grip... nothing worked, I had resigned to taking it to a shop untill I searched one last time and found your method. No need for one dollar store as I already had everything. I lined everything up and turned till I heard that pop... was either going to be cracked watch face 😅, or the back popping in. No cracked glass, kudos to your instructions, gentle and steadily increasing pressure is the trick, thank you! 🙏

i spent about 3 hours yesterday trying to get a watch back off an older Victorianox. No joy after watching a half dozen videos but that method for popping the case back on is ingenious and i modified it to help me remove the back of my watch. this video is canadian ingenuity at its finest. Worked perfectly. Clamp was not required for my watch. Strong thumbs! Was able to bring a watch back to life after being told by multiple jewelers they wouldn't change it due to the water resistant warranty. Thank you!

I've done this plenty of times over the years and was always able to snap the back on easily, but I have a Timex who's back was particularly stubborn. I already bought a watch case press from Amazon. It was only $10.00, but I already had the tools you showed. So yeah....insert regret face here lol. I can attest to your methods though as being a reasonable work around and they should help a lot of people. My sister went to a jeweler who charged her $90 American for a battery and replacement. Rip off time at the jewelry store. Her husband has since learned how to replace the battery which saves her a bunch of $$$. There are jewelry stores who will rip off people, and say they are giving them a good deal saying that they won't find the battery any cheaper anywhere else. Hmmm. Try the $ store or Walmart.

The c-clamp idea is genius! It worked perfectly. BTW I reduced the number of moving parts to juggle, by removing the cover on the sticky side of the circular pad. I stuck the coin right to it. Fewer things to adjust in the clamp. I use a hobby/craft magnifier on a stand for the close work. Thanks for all the useful info!

Your 2nd method worked great for me, as I don't have the thumb strength anymore due to arthritis. I just modified it a bit to use 2 socket wrench sockets that matched the size of the bezel and the back, then clamped as you did. There was no audible pop, but I could feel it click in

Thank you so much...I got the back off my very old Seiko and clicked it back on again. Now that I know how to do this, I will order a battery to see if it still works (I used the tiniest flat screw driver).

Hi Chris, like many other people looked at 2 or 3 other videos before I got to yours and yours looked the safest bet so as to not damage the watch. I had bought two vintage watches that needed new batteries, which I replaced, but then the back would not go on. Needless to say the back of both are now on and watches all intact. Thankyou

C-clamp for the win. Thick dollar coin with Eisenhower's mug on the front measuring about 38 cm perfect for "pressure plates".

This was closest to what worked for me. I tried two other methods described elsewhere with no luck and almost ordered a watch case press but it would have taken too long to arrive for my impatient mother waiting to get her watch back so I studied videos of the presses and figured out a way to improvise my own. I used a small drill press vise and found a large socket set socket that fit over the watch face but caught the outer body of the watch. I considered a small steel nut to place against the back but settled on a small crescent wrench round end that was smaller than the diameter of the watch back and then slowly tightened and...snap. Success. I love dollar stores as well for cheap materials/tools that can be used by creative problem solvers.

Thanks for this. I tried some of the other suggestions like a piece of wood or spanner across the watch back but it was too tight to close. I used a bench vice instead of a c clamp, slightly fiddly due to all the parts trying to drop out, but it worked with that extra bit of pressure.
