How to Save your Over-watered Succulent!

This is so sweet of you! ❤️ Good luck with the clay! Just remember to use organic matter and not to add sand, cause like my soils teacher always used to say... "What does clay and sand make?! Cement!!!" 😆 And let me know how it goes! I've got a lot of clay in my yard too!

@@thegirlwithashovel cement indeed, that was the issue, whenever I tried to water the succulents the hard clay on top practically did not let any water through and the roots remained dry, however the top layer of clay remained wet for too long causing rot, can you imagine, succulents always being too dry and still rotting because of that top layer, not only that, when the clay dries up its like brick and the roots just cannot grow in that. Wherever I'm going to place succulents I'm going to dig a pretty big hole and replace it with like 40% of various small rocks (0.5-1cm diameter), ive got small white rocks and volcanic rocks for that, 10% white sand (1mm diameter), 10% coconut fiber (I know, it retains water but it can get very hot/dry here in South-East Spain) and the other 40% is black compost and potting ground, the potting ground is almost like compost except with bigger chunks in it. If I grow succulents in pots its a bit less rocks and more compost and they grow very well in that, but I wanted more rocks in the garden because even though it can get very hot/dry, a "gota fría" happens in autumn sometimes which is super heavy rains, and then I want the soil with more rocks to get rid of water faster. Succulents in clay are from previous owner btw, I think he just planted them to make the garden look nice for the sale, but they just cannot survive in that.

I wait for the soil to dry out and then I water only a little bit of water at a time. I try not to soak the entire root ball if it is dormant. 😊

I'm sorry I didn't see your comment earlier! The reason to remove all the soil from the succulent is to replace it with dry soil. But if the soil is dry by the time you notice the overwatering damage, then the only worry is if your stem is showing signs of rot. Then you will probably have to investigate your root system. If it's only a few leaves though, and your soil is dry, (and you have good soil and drainage), then yes, simply take off the damaged roots and don't water as much next time! :)

I totally get that. Like I mention in the video, if the stem is already turning black then you'll be hard pressed to find any parts left that can be saved! Good luck though with your succulents!
