How To Scrap Incinerated IC Chips For Gold Wires With A Shaker Table, Recycling Electronics MBMM

Concentrating gold bonding wires from incinerated IC chips on one of our small shaker tables using only water (NO CHEMICALS!!). We had a customer who sent us a ~20 lb sample of incinerated IC chips that had been removed from PCB's (printed circuit boards) and screened to 80 mesh. He is interested in running the ash from the incineration process on one of our small shaker tables to recover out the free gold from the waste ash. The table did a great job recovering the free gold bonding wires. These wires are ~ 30-40 microns in thickness so they are very very fine. For more info on our equipment or gold recovery shaker tables please give us a call or email:

Such a delicate balance between the three factors of water flow, table slope and vibration. Great to see a system like this that doesn't require chemicals! Very cool idea. I've seen similar (much larger) tables in gold mill videos on youtube. I like that this is a portable system and probably very easy to set up. I wonder if it is possible to use an even smaller table with perhaps a different vibration rate.

Had a thought while on the road today. What would your system do with TV screens and computer monitors? I guess the hammer mill would pulverize the glass and lead, what would happen on the table? Would the lead and other metals separate out like the gold, etc.? I'm not really sure of the hazards involved with this procedure. If it could work you would become a very prosperous person. What do you think? I enjoyed watching several videos, enjoyed them!!! Moose led me to them. I am disappointed that the lower grade boards didn't produce more gold. When you twink your table could there be more?

The black you are seeing is mostly carbon. IC chips use fine elemental carbon in the epoxy mix. You likely have copper, silver, aluminium and iron in the mix with the gold, possibly some palladium and rarely platinum as well. As for the shiny silver bits, that's likely silicon from crushed wafers, they often contain precious metals but only in tiny amounts and chemical separation would be needed. After incinerating chips I gently crush and sieve out the whole silicon chips before reducing the ash to a finer mesh. Once I have several kilos of just the silicon wafers then I'll process them together, I haven't even got close to that yet as they're so small and light. Do you have any data as to the yield from 20lbs you ran?
@mbmmllc
@mbmmllc 9 лет назад
Laughing Achilles Thanks for the in depth comment and information. I don't have any data from the 20 lbs as it was all sent back to my client after the test was run. I would like to get some more of this stuff and get some assays done so we can figure out our percent recovery. Thanks again, we have some more videos coming soon so stay tuned.

Thanks for all the expertise and I will let all you guys know if I get any more details about the chips or the recovery. Thanks
@patnor1011
@patnor1011 9 лет назад
mbmmllc As I said some amount will be in uncrushed small pieces at 1:18 but that may be recoverable simply by grinding it again to the baby powder consistency. And amount of wires stuck on pins it all again depend on how material was crushed. If not enough then there may be fragments of wire still there but if you overdo grinding some wires will smear on pins as gold is very soft. Anyway it is recoverable, cheapest way will be to separate them to magnetic ones and non magnetic. There are many ways how to process them depend on what is your favorite method. They should be processed as if you deal with bigger quantities everything add up and IC packages contain silver and many of them do contain palladium which shoot up in price last few years, definitely worth to pursue if there are quantities to deal with.
@patnor1011
@patnor1011 9 лет назад
mbmmllc What he is going to recover depend on what was in a mix. If there were a lot of BGA IC then these run 5g+ of gold from kilogram. Other mixed IC should average 1g/kg if there is not too many of big rectangular IC with thick legs on 2 sides - they look like eprom IC chip, they are low value (with exception of older type of soviet production these are the best).

In my opinion, since the ash is from electronic parts, it is likely that what you are seeing that is gold is plated gold of only a few microns of gold and the rest of the base metal are other material but not gold. As such if you weigh those "gold" dust, it is not going to be the weigh of gold.

Wrong, it's called bond wires.
@dachee
@dachee 2 года назад
@@grzlbr Gold bonding wires are not the only metal used in a semiconductor. There are also plated leads. Gold bonding wires are not used in all semiconductor. It is sometimes replaced with aluminium bonding wires. As mentioned earlier, what you see as gold may not be fully gold. 100% certain that it contains some amount of plated gold.

@@dachee Total BS, you can clearly see all the bond wires, you falsely claimed they were not.

the black is iron, run a magnet over it

+Jay Stevens Thanks for the tip!

+Jay Stevens PCB's (printed circuit boards) would have a very, very low iron content, that's if it had any at all. Its likely copper from the pcb layers mixed with a bunch of nasty stuff from when it was burned. Maybe a copper/lead/silver mix with some other nasty stuff. I really doubt its iron though.

I should never ever even think about getting or trying to make one of those tables because I'd just be running the stuff through time and time again!! I just noticed that phrase "never ever even" is a palindrome. Cool! Poo

I really like this small table but at $16700 AUD she's a bit out of budget.

Sorry Jason but the setting of your table is obviously not in the way it supposed to be ..... Yes ,- the table slope in two directions ( depending on the size of material and conditions of the deck surface ,- the water amount adjusted to it ( stabil !!!) and the important frequenz of the motion and the "right" motion profil as well ( s. down below) Finer material require a special deck surface and a higher speed rate ,- as all the settings for this peticular material ....... More coarse material a opposite setting You can cut the gold fraktion easy "with water" and have in one hit a meltable product The feed have to be adjuste to the setting of the table also ,- may with a auger or conveyor belt ... If everything is set propper,- you can walk away and do something else .... We ( for instance ) work with a flotationssystem after the table ........ And of coarse we use a demagnetize system , to get rid of magnetic minerals ... But your melting technique is for us a interesting methode to integrate it in our production process ! ( Your smelting and refinering technique with lead or bismuth for small amound of gold is pretty need !) We watch your activity ,- your efford ......and enjoy it ! Well done Great to see you open the hardrock mine !!!!!! ( we learn a lot about hard rock mining !!!!) Shortly back to the motion "picture" ...... Holman or Wilfley ? From Germany ( former placer machine mining in B.C. ) Merry Christmas ,- a healthy and successful 2024

a quick question ( you work in domain) what is the reason if you incinerate the ic and grind you will got a considerable low yield in comparation with sulfuric acid method?(when use h2so4 to dissolve the epoxy )
