"I'm glad that it is DEAD." 🤣🤣🤣 I love these videos so much. Incredibly informative. I've been considering tanning hides from my brother's hunting for a few years now, and these videos have given me the confidence to finally take the first one out of the freezer! Thank you so much!
I truly appreciate the information you've uploaded. I've spent time researching tanning and you Ma'am have provided me a great deal of information. Bless you for all you've done.
I worked a hide yesterday, and I'm sitting here right now with an extremely sore core section! I had no idea how much my stomach muscles would be engaged, I thought it would be more of my back and shoulders but nope it's all in the stomach you are 100% on that
Thank-you. And for the added tip about the utility of the hair, plus grain, as tree mulch. At one time the scrap remains from raw woolen treatment (a material termed 'shoddy') was used in West Yorkshire in England as a fertilizer for forced rhubarb in darkened sheds.
im gona be doin this very soon. i have two hides and a neck to work on. i wonder how an orbital sander would be in terms of removing residual grain after the hide is stretched and dried!
Hi Natalie, thanks for the video. I'm going to make rawhide for bowstring, but I'm not sure if I need to leave the grain on and just remove the hair, or should I remove the grain as well?
Generally no need to treat the hide prior to fleshing... To get the hair off it is commonly soaked in lye solution until the hair slips easily... Then dehaired and or dehair and grain as she is doing here... She is making buckskin not a smooth leather...
I second the instructions on the set up. I've used the pvc pipe but how are you locking it down so it doesn't move? Love your videos. Thank-you for sharing!
Hi Natalie! Love your name! Can you explain a little bit more of what you meant about the shoe leather thing? What does the grain do for the leather to be considered proper shoe leather? I'm currently in the process of soaking some hides so that I can make a few things and I want to explore all of these options.
Hey! Love your name too. Haha! We actually have a course that explains hide tanning in more detail available here: wildabundance.mykajabi.com/hide-tanning-course-offer
I am missing something on "soaking" the hide and properly "soaking". Are you soaking the hide in something that will make the hair/fur come out...? I've tried to search and have not found anything on soaking the hide?
Hey Philip! We actually have an entire online class that takes you through all the steps, available here: wildabundance.mykajabi.com/hide-tanning-course-offer
@@jocelynepambrun4895 I live in Arizona so we never have cold weather like that lol. I went natural and did a hard wood charcoal soak for 6 days or so and the hair basically slipped right off
