I've been looking for something like this for ages to notch up my techniques and variations. Most are too basic or where I wanna be but dont explain it and show it all at full speed. This is brilliant. Broken down Short sharp to the point. Subbed. Great vid.
purely for price and chance of getting a cheap pair, i would recommend numark TT-500's. I picked up a mint pair with a mixer on gumtree for £125. Stanton STR150's are even better but will cost at least £300.
It's a Stanton SA-5. They are ok mixers but the curve control will not make the fader very sharp and it therefore must be modified. Every mixer has it's faults I guess!
the xfader has a small circuit board attached and the the fader connects to the mixer via the circuit board. simply bypass the circuit board and the fader curve becomes sharper. the only other thing you may wish to do is remove some of the "dead space" which is the few millimetres of movement before the fader starts to introduce sound. hop onto digitalvertigo forum for more into
Eric please can you do a revised version? I have the pattern down no problem but the fader movement is definitely different when you have the beats going. Been using this video for 2 years and just need the fader part. Your scratch sounds wicked and I wanna be able to do it lol
I think the trick that I neglected in this simplified tutorial is after the chirp at the beginning, the next movement starts with closing the fader again on the way forward and opening on the more complex record parts on the way back. hope that makes sense.
on record you can google 'cut and paste records' and buy their records, or mp3 can be ripped from RU-vid. just search for scratch samples and you're bound to find it. :)
