How to Search Text or Contents in Any Files - Windows 10

You have saved so much time of my work period. Many a times I have to work on an urgent basis where only I get a bit of information to search.........Following the instructions that you have explained in the video I can search very easily on the computer....Thank you so much once again.

It works , which is good, thumbs up. HOWEVER IF YOU WANT PEOPLE TO FOLLOW YOU THEN: View by category difficult to understand. "Contents" difficult to understand. Where it matters you say quick, you know what you mean, but only you. Don't click search & then say "Here you can see... Say "click search" and the click search ... Don't say check this option. Always name the option you are clicking. all the best Walter

My apologies, but this doesn't seem to work with me. When I do the search, it only searches based on the "Name of the file" and the Directory, but NOT the text contents of the file. Can you please help me out?

Mine stopped working after a few days and its kind of in it's own mood , if I check the first option too "Don't use the index when searching" , it starts working again, seems to be an issue with the index 1:22

I have a question, please. If I indexed my external "flash drive" in one computer to include both the name of the file and the text contents in the documents, and used that same flash drive in another computer... do I have to do the indexing again? Or should I only go through the "Always search file names" step (i.e. 1:01) and then modify the search in 2:34? Because indexing it again in the new machine will take a lot of time. I would REALLY appreciate your help.

I just purchase new laptop and installed with windows 10 but the search button not working as usual.. i mean, usually on my previous windos 8.1 when i search file i just type on search box without press Enter button. But on windows 10 its strange i have to press Enter button to search and it works slowly.. is this method can fix my problems? Thankyou before

Thank you, so much, my windows 10 looks a little less friendly. On find a setting, I search for file explorer option. Then I followed your instruction.

Also the file: prefix is very useful to avoid searching inside the file content and inside ZIP file. Still I cannot find any documentation about file: anymore...

There's a much easier way to do this; just go to Windows file explore options and check the always search file names box

hii all i hope everyone is keeping safe ... my question is using wild cards in search i need to find ... M*****58 and F*****58 that's all i have and i'm not sure of the total number of stars or not ?? both have 5 stars, i was able to use *.txt F*****58 and found the user id ... but unable to find *.txt M*****58 what is the correct command ?? thanks all - rick

You've probably saved hours of my life. Thank you very much. And it's so awesome how it doesn't index everything and that you can always disable it when you don't need it. I got a bit worried when the Jsons didn't index but then I realised that I needed to click on it and then let it search within it as well. What an intuitive tool.
