I have some videos on how to do that as well. Thanks so much for letting me know how it turned out! It really means a lot

Also fat is not "unhealthy". Just use as much as you need to cook. That's why food sticks. Because you people are neurotic.

Just tried this seasoning approach on a cheap, thin, 10" SS skillet that food would stick to in a heartbeat. Applied 6 layers of a 1/3 grapeseed oil, 1/3 canola oil and 1/3 beeswax that was working well for my cast iron pans. I cooked scrambled eggs with just a pat of butter after warming and testing temp as u showed and there was absolutely NO sticking whatsoever! Eggs cooked perfectly and afterwards, just wiped pan clean with a paper towel and it's good to go! Can't thank u enough for posting this vid. I plan to invest in a higher-quality SS set and toss all my toxic nonstick pans now for good. Just awesome! Tks again!! 👍

I'm 70 years old and cooked an omelet in a stainless steel pan without it sticking for the first time in my life! Thanks so much for the video. I don't know if it was the seasoning you describe, or getting the pan to the correct temperature as described elsewhere in the RU-vid Universe, but seasoning definitely helped. One caution though, when the oil starts smoking, it is also perilously close to catching on fire. So everyone, please pay attention to what's going on, else something's gonna burn and it ain't your omelet.

I’m a 79 female and in an effort to get away from Teflon and back to the stainless steel I used to use and loved, I just bought a beautiful new stainless steel pan with the type of bottom yours has. I knew that I read somewhere that I could make stainless steel nonstick. This is certainly simple enough to do whenever it needs done again, but tomorrow I’m going to do this . I wanted a stainless steel fry pan with a lid, a thick heavy clad bottom and expect with the extra handle on the opposite side because of my arthritis. I’m so happy I bought the stainless steel pan. I do love stainless steel and plan to enjoy it even more now that I know your method. So thank you.

I am trying to get the person cooking for their family and children to stop cooking on chemically coated pans like Teflon, so please share this video on social media, or to your friends that have stainless steel pans or cast-iron pans sitting in the cupboard, while they are using Teflon pans that have been scratched and the coating has chipped off. If you have burnt the oil to the pan already, there is a video in the playlist that will show you how to strip that oil off. If you don’t have access to this product it is in my Amazon store the link is in the description box as well. I used barkeepers friend powder form but I saw the premixed so you don’t have to make a paste. The first time I did it. Nobody taught me hell, I just experimented on my own. That’s how I know that six times is the magic number. The beginners version is also in the description box below the video. Did you see the seasoning video showing at the end of this video? Seasoning cast iron will last a lifetime if done properly and taken care of properly. Stainless steel only last about 12 times if you do it correctly and don’t use soap on it like cast-iron. When it starts to stick just let it soak for a little while.*

+Zoch Buppet yeah it's a lot easier when you season them because the food doesn't stick. Just don't put soap in it after you season it. It won't last as long as seasoning a cast iron skillet but it will last a good while. If you have already cooked in it then make sure to watch the stainless steel cleaning video with Bar Keepers Friend in the playlist and screen of this video. Thanks for watching and commenting! I'm an Estate Sale junkie. I have quite a few vintage cast iron pans. I need to start selling the ones that I don't use to often. A few years ago I stopped at a sale that the family was doing, not a Estate Sale company. Anyway I had made a few piles of things that I wanted to buy including maybe 20 +/- old Revere Ware pans lids. I asked the lady there what I owed her for it. The pans were in one pile and other odd things were in other piles. For the other piles she wanted $10.00 for the pans she said $5.00. It was one of those couldn't get the money out quick enough moments. Now that I know how to season them I can get rid of my Non-Stick pans.

I am female human ( checks herself to make sure) and I grew up in Asia where everything was stainless steel in the kitchen but the problem is I never learned how to use it because it was mainly the grandmas and great aunts who cooked and didnt think twice about HOW they did it.. I just figured it was easy. Then I tried it when I was living on my own and my goodness, i burned everything! So i switched to nonstick. Just treat it like a cast-iron pan now and don’t put soap in it. If things take a little later on just let it soak a minute or two. It will not stay forever like cast-iron so you will be doing it again down the road. So glad you’re not using Teflon coated pans! As long as you season it six times, and don’t cheat and you don’t use so after cooking and treat it like a cast-iron it should last a long time. You don’t have to do all six in one day. I never do but if you look at the seasoning video that pops up at the end of this video, and you have a cast iron skillet that will last forever if done the way I instruct. If you’ve never done it try the beginner version, click the little white i (information card) in the top right-hand corner the video to find it.

Concerning the smoothness of the pan interior, you can wet sand them with “wet or dry “carborundum sandpaper. A good bit of elbow grease and some 400 grit then 600 grit norton sandpaper can turn your $50 budget clad pan into $250 performer. It will change the interior finish appearance to a random swirl pattern, but it works great. I nearly lost two beaten eggs testing the pan I just sanded. It was so nonstick that the eggs slid across the surface so well, they nearly “jumped the fence” . It is a $50 stainless clad wok. I used coconut oil to season it.

An elderly neighbor had a fit, and drove me back down there to get it, claiming.... 'Are you NUTS?!?! I'LL get the pot for you! Hahahaha, I love 'real' cookware, for sure! And, I'd be honored for a 'follow'! I'm currently preparing to launch my own podcast 'series', and am hoping it's successful. It'll be on everything from 'fact based, non-partisan socio/political impact show', to DIY Re-purposing for people with limited funds and tools, to 'How cute do YOU think my kitties are?"... As far as the gender ratio, I am made in the video, is for my cast-iron cooking videos lol it’s about 100% male viewers. If it wasn’t for this video and the videos in the playlist shown in the information card at the top right-hand corner of this video I would have no female viewers. So thank you very much for watching Crystal! Also a big thanks for commenting, it means a lot!

@CastIronCooking
@CastIronCooking 6 лет назад
No you will season them six times in the beginning so you don’t have to season them again. It explains it in this video, but this is for advanced. Click on the playlist in the top right-hand corner of the video in the information card. Or at the end of the video on the end screen. Basically same instructions on how to do it in the beginning version but it is a different amount of oil you will use. Let me know how turns out! 😊 make sure there are no white deposits before you season like on the thumbnail photo of my stainless steel cleaning video.

My mum gave me a cast iron skillet some 30 years ago. My boyfriend hated that pan, and packed it away. I recently found it and he wanted to throw it out. (!!) Of course, it wasn't seasoned and it sat in a box for 30 years. I scrubbed it clean because it was quite icky, and looked up your vid to re-season it. It's still my favorite pan to fry stuff in. So much better than the teflon ones. :) PS my regular pots are also stainless steel. Now I just have to find a decent wok! I do like to cook my fried eggs in oil tho... :)

Sure am grateful for both of your SS vids, they've helped me a ton! I appreciate it much! You mentioned restaurant, & I was wondering if the lard (370°F smoke point) seasoning wears or burns off if you sear a steak (400-450°F)? Ever try avocado oil (520°F smoke point) for seasoning SS?
@CastIronCooking
@CastIronCooking 5 лет назад
*You must’ve read the lard smoke point of the Internet. I said to Google it in the video because I actually found a website that had the correct chart. After this video weights was years ago I found pages of websites that all have different ideas of smoke points. Real chefs know that lard has the highest smoke point obviously because it is animal fat. Avocado oil, and coconut oil are also excellent to season stainless steel. You can Google high smoke point soon you will have 10 different websites with 10 different measures. That is why I used lard in the advanced version, and bacon fat in the beginners Video. If you follow the instructions and do exactly what I do, you will have exactly the same results. But I suggest cast-iron because of seasoned the way I do it, it will last forever. Thanks for watching, and thanks for the compliments!*

"You must’ve read the lard smoke point of the Internet." LoL, well that's what you told us to do so I looked it up & yep that's what it said... I have used your instruction to the 'T' & have been amazed at the results! I spent my whole life not knowing SS needed to be seasoned, burning everything, ruining everything.... But you came along & changed that. Watching my eggs glide around on a SS skillet with some butter is insanely satisfying, after spending so many years not getting it right...argh! Yeah, so glad I ran across your channel! Thanks again, you've helped a lot!!!

Great channel, since my soon-to-be ex moved out, I've been cooking everything I can think of on my 12" cast iron skillet. Also have a brand new in the box set of All Clad MC2 pans that I'm anxious to start cooking with. With my cast iron I made a great butter basted ribeye last night and had 2 over easy eggs with sausage patties and toast this morning. The process to clean and quickly reseason the cast iron is fun.

You are absolutely the best. I have sat in front of my TV all day watching people season everything from griddles the nonstick frying pans literally everything and I can safely say that you are the best out of everybody on RU-vid the reason I watched all the stuff all day is because I ordered a custom fitting griddle to go inside my weber grill it’s being made out of just cold rolled steel I should have it in a couple days so could you please tell me of how to season it. I know you say that cast-iron is porous anyways I need help. I’m actually a decent cook I have a shit load of cast-iron everything and they’re all in pretty good shape I was raised cooking on a wood-burning stove in Kentucky I just don’t wanna screw up this grill I want it to be right. I seen a high end griddle today it’s a EVO. There are about four or $5000 end it is steel but it is jet black it ain’t splotchy like a lot of these Blackstone griddle‘s and everybody else’s look like do you have any idea how they got it like that? Well I don’t want to get too greedy with your knowledge just help me out on my griddle please once again you’re the best when you done that scrambled egg. flipping it Around in there without a spatula I couldn’t fucking believe it man that was bad ass. I am a new subscriber but I promise you I’ll be around for the long-haul

*Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and support Charles! I answered the comment here, on your other comment on my cast-iron seasoning Video. I am glad you are going to be here for the long-haul, that is so awesome that you have all of the cast iron cookware! The stainless steel seasoning will eventually wear off, so treat it like cast iron and it will last a little longer. But if you season your cast iron the way I do making sure to wipe all of the oil off, and then wiping it down againAnd also cleaning after cooking the way I do shown in the video and my cast iron seasoning playlist it will last a lifetime.*

Just got a really nice SS pan and I’d like to take my time seasoning it. If I were to use the low and slow method and do 6 coats, how long should I expect it to last? I’m just looking for a rough estimate, i.e. 10-15 meals, 5-6 meals, etc. I’ll obviously keep an eye on it but just wondering what to expect. Thanks for the video!
@CastIronCooking

*If you are talking about my beginners version, located in the description link below the video, that sounds about right. It will last longer if you treat it like cast-iron and do not use soap. If it starts to stick a little just let it soak in some warm water for a little while. Thanks for watching!*

Cast Iron Cooking thanks for the quick response. I was referring to this video at the 2:24 mark when you said if you do it on low and you do it slower and longer the seasoning is going to last longer. I was just curious as to how much longer to expect. It’s been great so far. Thanks for the video

Hello! You're awesome and thanks for the great videos! I came here because I was curious to see how you season your pans. I've seen some good advice and bad. Yours is right on the mark! I can't help but comment on what you said about most of your followers being men and it's odd because...It's pretty simple really. Most chefs, as you know are men, and women probably don't usually look at your videos because they already know how to do these things. Guys won't ask for directions even when they're lost (Thank you Google maps!!) and they won't read instructions when they put something together until it's a complete mess. A woman can give her man advice till they're blue in the face but it won't click until their buddy tells them the same exact thing and they run home to share this amazing advice with their, now stunned, wife or girlfriend. Most women already know what you're teaching because they learned from their mom or grandma. Some never cooked or never had that sort of upbringing so they will look for cooking advice. These days it's different too. in the 1980s women started raising their boys to know how to cook, clean, wash clothes, etc and their girls to mow lawns, etc. The point was to make them both self-sufficient and independent adults. They became young adults and the girls ended up going to work and dads became stay-at-home dads (not all but it was extremely common) along with a lot of other gender changes that changed the rules entirely. Now that's a whole other book, lol. But you get the gist. Men are amazing cooks/chefs, the women in their lives love that (and if the guy is single he gets a lot of girls being a chef), while women have been taught through generations how to since it was always our place to "cook, clean and rais babies". I'm not a feminist or one of those, chicks. I'm just a lady speaking the truth.
