This is an awesome trick that a student of mine shared with me that she learned in a quilting class she took at the same time as my drawing lessons. It's great for drawing too, especially when you're converting a color image to graphite or charcoal- black and white. Let me know if you have questions or other ideas for how to apply this. I'm guessing it would work for any color of plexiglass, too, although yellow would likely be too light. Try green or blue plexiglass if you have access to that, vs. red plexiglass.

Thanks for this tutorial. I'm always in the need of new information as a beginner that's trying to study the shading techniques, the values as well as depicting the shapes that fill light and shadows . It's something I'm struggling with a lot

I totally understand! Most of my shading videos are on my subscriber website because they are over an hour long but I have some here and lots of other beginning skill sets you’ll want here. I hope they help you continue to grow!!!

Hey, thanks for that! what kind of pencil you use to give you that fuzzy texture??

Hmm, I don't remember the specific pencil I used, but I tend to use 3 or 4 B and Strathmore Recycled or Windpower Sketch paper that is 60lb in weight. Other factors are how sharp your pencil is, what table surface the paper is sitting on or if you're drawing on the notepad, and then how your hand works. Some days my texture is smoother than others. I hope this helps you figure out how to achieve it. You also might watch my value scale video, to see how I get smooth texture: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q0YIqCCXgBc.html

Similar to using a red filter in the old days of black and white film photography - The red filter also enhances a bit of contrast - thus the bright areas look brighter and dark areas a bit darker - especially blue skies were made to appear rich and dark, while the appearance of white clouds moved towards a clear pure contrasty snow white -

Where do I get sheets of red plexiglass?
@PeterQuentercrimsonbamboo

Photography stores, studio-lighting supplies, theatre-stage- lighting supplies - You can use transparent red foil, does not have to be solid plexi ! Art stores often have red foils, too - maybe even an office-supply store - The flexible 'foil'sheets used for putting in front of photoflashes and stage lights etc. are called 'Gels' and come in all kinds of colours - and otherwise... back to Amazon, I guess -

I'm in the US, so it was easy for me to buy this one from a seller on Etsy: www.etsy.com/listing/471033526/cnc-precision-cut-red-transparent-2423?gpla=1&gao=1&RaminimalStudio_sfc_osa&gclid=Cj0KCQjw9ZDeBRD9ARIsAMbAmoaEfUt0D5YuZogLk_q6qV2uVOFHALQiyAfNsg7ZoZYNw0pzK5ltXDEaAnABEALw_wcB You may also be able to do an online search for a plexiglass dealer where you live and you may be able to buy it locally, as well. I am sure it will be different in each country, though.

I know it isn't a common thing to own, but you can buy one for $5-10. Think of it like it is just buying another art supply, like a special eraser or paper to draw on.
