@@ceruleanwizard the opening felt a little off, you could have reflected the AOT meme in the water aswell but getting it right would have been difficult, i also personally would have cut off the audio of Lois talking after she just said "peter" or cut off the drifter speaking, probably with a zoom on the horse to accentuate it a little more, it felt a little unfocused but was overall not bad the next shot with the bow and helmet, the pop-ups were a really nice touch, not something alot of people would have thought of, but they have alot of sway and bounce, it's feels a little unnantural countered to the guardians movement, i'd guess it's a flaw of the automatic tracking, even in Resolve it isn't perfect but usually is close enough, the black and white there is also really well done, highlighting your guardian over the others the perk pop-up in the next scene is also really well done, and super interesting, but i would have suggested keeping it all in one part, instead of having the "visually marks targets" off to the side the slow at the end of each sequence was a very nice touch, letting it rest a moment, and leading perfectly into the next one, and the circle fades in the wish ender spot was very good, it would have been difficult to play around how much wish ender moves on screen so using the fade and wipe helps to dissuade any amount of dissassociation caused by the jump the pacing in a few moments were off following that, the glaive double kill could have been cut a bit differently and a slow effect, to about 80-90 percent speed, could have done wonders to help keep on beat the "wrist wrist wrist" moments are so perfectly done, it really works, but another option would have been to do the same, but stop the fade early on the way out through each clip so have this layered onion effect, and each layer collapses with each kill the same with "repent" possibly using a slide in from the side to introduce new clips, have one slide in from the right, and the existing one is squashed to a vertical 9x16 ratio, repeat again for the third clip, you could have had the "pent-pent-pent" flow a little smoother, the cuts were a little jarring, in a similar fashion to as you did later on, the 5 way split screen with wish ender the memento mori sequence is absolute perfection, the spinning wish ender is a nice touch as all the clips slide through, but it does cause a disconnect in the viewer when DPS really hits his stride you could have had the gameplay turned down, and done a somewhat rapid fire wish ender kill sequence, same as you did earlier, and i must say, the dodge transition is absolutely gorgeous, that's the kinda thing i love to see because it's so creative and unique, and it gives the viewer something consistent to follow between scenes the small JSE easter egg was also hilarious, but you could have had his audio a little louder and DPS turned down just a smidge, since they said the same word it works either way overall, this entire thing gets an 8/10, some edits are things that even i struggled with in my own work, and it's beautiful, very well done, amazing choice of music, and outside some moments of confusion and continuity for the viewer, it's definitely among the best edits i've seen in my long long years as an editor and on youtube, and in the destiny space on the platform
@@kamaleyonvt Ok, now I actually have a moment to respond! I saw this pop up last night and I was like "hooooly shit..." Wow...I did not in anyway expect that level of detailed response. God damn. I actually GREATLY appreciate that, thank you. So I'll start with the "pent pent pent" like...segment as a whole. All those 3-peats were soooo difficult to work with. I do recognize they're a bit jarring, I was actually disappointed as I had VERY little clips where I do a Glaive 3-tap, which is why the "sick sick sick" is a bit jumpy. A fade-in was the best option I had at the time. I wanted to do a similar thing I did with my "How to Stab" video, and also attempt to keep the lighting/environment consistent so it wouldn't hurt the eyes as much, but I didn't have much of a "Glaive melee budget" as I had hoped. Not to mention the natural pace of a Glaive melee was too slow to match the beat so I had to speed it up....ugh, that entire like 30 seconds area was just difficult to work with 😵💫. I went through numerous iterations with those. Ok, hard part outta the way. The Intro I honestly wasn't sure how to go with the "Petah" part. Cause when I had it louder it sounded...out of place. Though I initially wanted to just have the "Petah" and not include the last half, but wasn't entirely sure if everyone would get it just from that cause if you don't catch it it just sounds like just a random noise. So I put the whole quote but broke it up between Drifter talking. But I see your suggestion. It's definitely more in line with a lotta the way ".EXE" videos do memes, but it could work to spice the intro up. And the reflection on the water wasn't something I thought I really "needed" to do for it to work, so long as I had the tiny Drifter masked over it, but that's an interesting suggestion 🤔 The perk/weapon pop-ups is something I do cause I'm too lazy to do voice over or "talk" about the perks on the weapons (like every other D2 RU-vidr does, but obviously for good reason). But I figured using the in-game text works for most cases. And I actually didn't use auto tracking for any of those, lol, that was entirely me. I tried to make them "fit" their position best I could but for that case I really just went with "close enough." But in the later part when I show the armor/weapon perk when he starts the intro I may just lead into using my own text cause masking it just becomes either silly when the perks are complex or hard to read if it's not something like my first video (blink further and more frequently). In this case I figured MOST people watching would know what they do already, which is why I didn't harp on it, but added the (pause for context) part in the timeline. (Also, sidenote, whether or not I give time to showcase the perks depends entirely on if I can find an instrumental version of the song I'm using, as I don't like the do the 'tutorial' segment over lyrics). Everything else aside from those I'm very happy with. Memento Mori segment being hands down my favorite thing I've done. I actually wanted to add more, or make it seem more like a clock, since I matching bowshots up with the "tick-tock" sound in the actual song, but I didn't have much time left and wasn't sure how to implement it in a clean way. I was just happy I got to use the "Film-strip" effect again which I had been itching to use again. But I do agree with the Jacksepticeye Easter egg being a little higher. I was 50/50 on whether or not to have them the same volume, cause simply put, I like the song and didn't wanna block DPS's voice 😅. A lot of the things I implement are usually due to a restriction in clip budget, beat synchronization or just straight up overthinking, but I hugely appreciate the incite. It was like.....actual criticisms or alternatives mixed in with proper praise of things I did well despite that...are you a teacher by chance? In any case, thank you! 🙏
@@ceruleanwizardi'm going to scream, i had my entire response typed out and my phone decided "hah, nahh" and deleted it all i do all of my editing in DaVinci Resolve, it's by a mile the single greatest editing program available (used in hollywood for a reason) and it's completely free, all you gain by buying the program is a couple of things here and there that will have zero impact on your day to day work, that being said, i did buy it and Black Magic Medias proprietary editing platform that aside, i can understand how difficult the process of gathering and working with a variety of clips can be, especially if they don't line up perfectly, but alot of what you can do is colour grading and lighting adjustments which is hard but alot of fun the Petah would work better in the more .EXE style, since it's all about adding and accentuating the joke at play the tracking is always difficult, but i have a ton of it in my own work, i found you get the best results and the easiest work if you keyframe your tracking every 2 frames, on a slow motion clip every 3 or 4 also works, but the best option is every 2, as for the pop-up itself, using something like Pixlr/x or photoshop is a super easy way to make your own that conveys all your information in an interesting way timing your video with music can be hard, but with something like FL studio or even audacity, or the audio editor built into DaVinci Resolve you can easily manipulate the music and create low points to work around, FL studio especially since you can automatically have a breakdown of the music, BPM and track seperation, and you can add and change it how you need in a moment with the perks and the tracking, what you can do is a simple 3 or 4 word breakdown and use that in an interesting way similar to how MPEdits would or the .EXE videos would, something i like doing is making the text look like it's part of the environment, which is a talent all its own the memento mori moment was definitely amazing, and if you really wanted to play into the clock aspect, you could have used a circular fade out overlay to create your clock face, that allows you to see the clips of you killing them with the bow in the clock, have the numbers around the clock, and your wish ender cut out would move like the hands on a clock, more or less lunging forward, step and stop kinda idea, it would work very well with what Memento Mori represents, and the filmstrip, it's super interesting, but if you don't mind the extra work, you can recreate the film strip effect on one clip and copy the transform information to the others, just starting on a different frame so the clips actually cycle through like a film it would have made the entire thing pop alot more the JSE easter egg all boils down to what works best, and in that moment having his face show up but his audio being nearly muted behind DPS it felt jarring, i understand the pains of clip restriction, alot of the time in my own work i find that i need more clips to really convey the feeling i want, but it's alot easier for me since my content is mostly PVE focused, and tends to take on a more funny moments esque vibe and it was instilled in me when i was young but everything i do i do 110 percent, including when it comes to criticism, sometimes that tends to hurt the other persons feelings but it's a small price for a mastery of ones craft and no, despite all i am not a teacher, i do however stream my own editing, albeit infrequently, and have stepped forward and helped alot of my friends and others to learn a small part of the world of video editing that i love so much, i'm always more than happy to give out advice and help in an area i may be of help in, which is why i stream my editing, so people can ask questions i believe that's more or less what i had written before my phone deleted it all, but now i'm on my PC, so, no more issues there you genuinely do have a talent, editing isn't a thing for everyone, and with time, effort, and hard work, you can build your niche in this side of the internet, and should you like, i'd be more than happy to sit with you and help you with some of the more in depth forms of editing and things that take some figuring out to understand, the video editing icerberg goes deep, and i'm barely 3 layers in
