So I’m not a new seller (I started selling in 2006) however I haven’t been diligent lately. I owned a consignment shop in 2010 and when I closed it...I had A TON of items left. My best friend asked me what I was going to do with it. I told her I’m going to list everything on eBay for 0.99 each. She said “you are going to make a killing!” Well I let my emotions get the best of me and I didn’t do that. So now my house is over run with stuff and I hate it. So last night I broke down what I need to list daily/weekly into doable size pieces. I ended all I had currently listed and relisted all but my painted pieces for $1. I have 40 active listings and 6 already have bids after just 13 hours!!! I’m grateful I found your video which reignited me. I’m looking forward to decluttering and being coming financially free!

As a buyer, I prefer the buy it now option. I used to sell stuff in the past and I did buy it now mostly. It was handmade jewelry for Christmas and made about 5K. I did do some auction’s on stuff that I didn’t care about and was very surprised when I got over $50 for an old printer ink cartridge that was still new in the packaging.

I have been selling as a hobby a little over a year but didn’t work at it more until the past few months. I do pretty much everything you mentioned here. I love .99 cent auctions it freaks most sellers out because there’s risk. My 60 day totals were over $1500 gross last week. I have 144 reviews now and 100% positive and it’s been so worth it to print off a note like you mentioned at the end. This by no means is anything more than a hobby and to fuel my own love to thrift but eventually I want to actually get into higher ticket items and make some extra cash even if only $500 net a month. That would fund a vacation in one year. I love selling on eBay and it’s been self taught learning from mistakes and watching RU-vid videos like these. Thanks for sharing!

New at this too but something I noticed this week taking my kid to work in am those recycling bins out at curbside are full of shipping materials and Amazon boxes are perfect, you can use amazon boxes but remove the shipping info and your saving it from hitting the landfill!

Prefer to BUY IT NOW! Seen way to many people gets shortchanged on nice items that got little bids and had to sell way below value! On PCs, higher priced items, then an Auction can prove time worthy!

As a descent volume buyer on Ebay, Honest Finance is correct on many things he mentions. I prefer to buy without bidding. I don't have time to get my bid in, in the last minute as most buyers do. However he is giving great advice and tips on how to stretch your dollar, so stop worrying about how many blinks are in the video. I am taking away a boat load of advice from this gentleman and appreciate that he even shares his advice. So - THANK YOU !!!!

Honest Finance, I "truly" appreciate you taking the time to do this video. I'm 68 and going through some rough medical problems that restrict my movement. I'm an Ebay seller and have been for YEARS... There's quite a bit of feedback here about using the .99 or $1.00 starting bid. My advice is, only do it if you are building up your reputation as a new seller. Also, sell stuff that you really don't care if you get a dollar for if that's the only bid. Include a feedback note like he said. Ebay rewards you with free insert fees when you reach a certain level of sales, regardless of the price the item sold. However, if it's a "hot" item, and you see recent sales for the item in the SOLD/COMPLETE research column, then go for it with your fingers crossed. You can also ask a friend to bid it up to your bottom line, and then square the sale away with the friend. But don't do that too often.

I've never sold on Ebay. Watching your video has relieved some of the fear of getting started for me. Very informative, with good insights and great tips, presented clearly and concisely. Thank you.

One important detail you didn't mention is to ensure you scan the UPC code for DVD's and video games and the ISBN number for books as listings that have this code included in the item specifics get priority over listings that don't have it scanned in, so one way to ensure your listings get priority over other listings in make sure you have the UPC or ISBN code included

You might want to mention to keep the descriptions simple. To many people ramble on trying to hype the product and you loose customers. Auction vs fixed pricing. There are some products that should be done on fixed pricing because only a select group of people buy X item. Ex: Lenox. I lost a lot of money doing auctions on lenox. I now only post them with fixed pricing. Sales are much higher. Hallmark: research expensive items and batch all the little stuff. Common sense here but you decrease refunds if you pack breakable items in a box that has space for packing material to pad it from being banged around and possibly broken. Sometimes a little bit bigger box is better. Excellent video!

I was thinking about selling a phone on ebay, but after watching this I can't be bothered. Excellent presentation though (and I gave it a like), concise and full of factual info without wasting my time telling me where you're from, what the weather's like and how good the coffee tastes. Thanks.

I've been selling on eBay for over 10 years. I do almost everything you suggest. I also sell things from old steamer trunk [which buyer had me only bubble wrap and he had it shipped on Grey Hound bus! I sold as 'buyer arranges and pays shipping]] jewelry, clothes, Well cap/seals [got for $1 at yard sale, sold for $25 each, one guy in PR bought them all, shipped in large flat rate box] shoes [they can be heavier than you think and anything over 16 oz will cost a lot more to ship] so some things I include shipping on [nothing is FREE I HATE the term 'free shipping' more correctly it's 'shipping included' ] others I charge as you advise in this vid. A couple suggestions: say as little about the item as possible that would be opinion. List factual info and as much as possible. For instance, I never say 'comfortable shoes' b/c the buyer may not think they are and I kind of promised they were so with eBay guarantee they could return it. I prefer to give all factual detail I can, as many photos as possible to get all angles, natural light or indoor lighting and often both if it's gemstone. Make sure you create a shadow box or angle your camera so you don't have shadows on your items. NO FLASH! If I sell a ring I don't put it on my finger, instead I hold it to show size, in a display box and alone on contrasting background. Use a penny to show size of jewelry, a tape measure next to clothes, item on scale to show weight. I learned that if I say it's 24" length and buyer says it's 24.5" they can return it because my description was off. I don't accept returns for buyer's remorse so be as factual as possible, letting the tape, scale and penny speak for themselves is best. I had a buyer for a loose Zircon gemstone who contacted me saying I should have said how small it was. This when I had it pictured beside a penny, had photo of it on scale in grams and ozs and mm dimensions from GIA cert! He opened a case to return it and eBay settled in my favor because I had plenty of photos and documentation. I have 100% 5* feedback and LOVE when a buyer tells me how thrilled they are!! Selling is fun, not just making $$. You can make someone's day happier and that's a good feeling :)

Thanks for the the awesome advice. My mother passed away this pasted December. She has so many nice clothes , many with the tags. She had great taste and all her stuff is name brand. She had a shopping problem and spent a ridiculous amount of money on her clothes, shoes etc.I’ve finally decided to start packing up her room and thought “instead of donating to the Salvation Army ( I hope this doesn’t offend anybody but my local Salvation Army charges so much for used clothing that are donated to them. You can literally go to TJ Maxx or Ross and buy brand new stuff for cheaper than the Salvation Army charges for used items and it really pisses me off but that rant is for another channel lol)why not try to sell some stuff on eBay especially since I’m out of work right now because of the coronavirus. You brought up some very good ideas I didn’t even think about. I will post next Sunday and let you know what happen. I’m a little bit nervous about starting a bid out at one dollar but I’m a risk taker and I’ll try anything once😜😜

Very good tutorial. I'm glad you instructed to take photos because one thing Ebay has been bad about (and still is) are those darn STOCK PHOTOS! If it's a used item, then SHOW ME THE ACTUAL ITEM AND IT'S CONDITION! 100% of my Ebay purchases are of items which includes photos of the item for sale. And, yes, I have paid more for an item by doing this but I want to see what it is I'm buying! I also send a personal email to sellers to thank them for taking photos of their item for sale. They have replied THANKING me for noticing and for purchasing their item.

No, no, nooooo - now I won't be able to pick up so many bargains from crappy listers. Actually all good advice. Making things easy for the buyer will get sales and a good reputation. One problem I have occasionally is sellers who package things so securely they can't be unboxed without damaging the item. Again, just consider the buyer's viewpoint.
