This is a great approach. I like the idea of selling the idea before even delivering the product. I’ve really changed my mindset about building websites for clients and I find they are much happier if you are providing more value to their business and life by showing them that you are willing to over deliver on value. You’re totally right…they don’t want to hear about the flaws and technical issues. They want to hear a promise if you like and once you deliver on that promise, that’s when you’ve got yourself a long term client. Thanks for sharing and all the best to everyone watching ✌️
Here's another way we've been getting leads. It's a "small favor" little mobile "app" that can help your clients get more Google Reviews. This video is actually part of a playlist that covers getting leads, building a basic website, and getting clients on a $375/mo plan. Let me know what you think: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jzi9Oe3QzFg.htmlsi=OO7m1L27SfAQwZva
This is very good advice! You don't sell the website, but you sell the better dream. And the dream includes getting a better website. Thanks a lot!! I really needed to hear this.
Thank you! Have you seen my latest video about landing clients that are not local to you? These are my top tips for reaching beyond local friends and family to land clients from anywhere in the world. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GGvzYi1Mwz0.html
I've just started my own web design business. I've not landed my first client yet, but so many of my milestones and thoughts about how to win clients and what value to bring them is mentioned here in your video. really makes me confident that this will be a success for me, so thank you.
How is your business going? Have you landed your first client yet? Here's a pattern that can help. Check out this playlist. It has three videos to show how to 1) Get Leads 2) Build the website 3) What do to in the monthly marketing plan ru-vid.com/group/PLRJ3SwxY0VxKfSjlcfPAVLGxpPt82KKxn
Sweet! It’s really fun to show people what their business could be like with your help and then it’s so much easier to offer them the tools an resources to get them there. Thanks for stopping by and saying hi 👋 I am glad you’re part of this channel’s community! If there’s anything else I can do to support you just let me know.
Hureeeeh!!! Very powerful analogy- the bay vs the ocean experience. I think this is really what I needed to hear for a very long time, concerning web design and how to pitch to local clients. Thanks Lee for elaborating the concept with the fish analogy which is symbolism for two different markets with totally different results, according to your approach of things. I'm excited about how you analyze things logically in ways everybody can easily understand and implement your strategies ASAP. I have waited for this video for soo long but thanks Lee, you've nailed it today. Thanks a million and may God give you more grace to continue with your good work!
Thanks, Victor! What an awesome thing to say. I'm so glad you are a part of this channel's community. You're such a positive and encouraging person, which I'm sure inspires many more people than just me. Thanks for watching and for your comment!
Great insight, Lee. You're absolutely right, business owners who dont already have a website in 2022 are those who dont have the money to invest or dont see how a website can bring them more business..
This is what I’ve been missing for like more than 3 years of freelancing! That’s why I depended on the ads agency getting clients and bargaining my hourly rate till I can’t afford to pay May bills. Now i feel like I can really do it by myself. Find clients and sell the bigger fish
So why don’t we have people with the same interest working together? It’s silly that we all watch RU-vid videos but don’t even try to chat together to come up with something unique.
Thanks, Michael! Thanks for checking out the video and sharing your reaction :) Also, it's awesome having you in the DoubleStack community! We're going to have a lot of fun winning clients together!
I thought the advice on simple googling accountants near me and going to the business directory also to focus on large business high ticket high margin business and not the small margin small ticket margin was the best advice
As a sailer that lives on a Catalina 38 in San Fransisco bay and runs a website building business. This video is on point! Love the insight and the analogy really hit home for me. Great stuff.
Thanks, Dustin! It's always fun when you can pull examples from real-world life experiences. I also think it makes things more clear when you can see examples in other areas of life and then bring those lessons to web design and digital marketing. Thanks for watching, and also thank you for sharing your thoughts/feedback. I'm glad you found the channel, and I'm happy a fellow waterman is part of the community we're building here!
Thanks, Louie! Glad you found the channel! If there is anything else I can do to help you find more clients for web design, just let me know! Happy to support you any way I can.
Hey, Stephan! Thanks for checking out the video. Also, it was great meeting you over Zoom today! I'm looking forward to helping you win some clients for your web design business. I love your energetic and creative personality! It's going to be a lot of fun working together. 🚀
Glad I stumbled on this vid @DoubleStack. The analogy was clear and "comprehend-able" 😂. However, I dint get the link to the video you mentioned in this video. Care to help a brother with it?
Thank you! It's awesome that you watched the video and took the time to drop a quick comment! I hope you come back for more videos in the future. If there's anything else I can do to support you, just let me know. Thanks for being part of our community here on RU-vid!

My favorite price point as a base package is a $500 website plus $375/month for hosting, maintenance, and a basic marketing plan. This results in a $5,000 per year relationship with your client. Check out this playlist. It has three videos to show how to 1) Get Leads 2) Build the website 3) What do to in the monthly marketing plan ru-vid.com/group/PLRJ3SwxY0VxKfSjlcfPAVLGxpPt82KKxn
Yeah, I read Jordan's straight line stuff, and there are some overlaps for sure. But, his stuff is far more aggressive and doesn't align with my personality at all. For me, I like to serve clients rather that "hard sell" them. By "serving" I mean I want to help them achieve the goals that THEY want rather than trying to "persuade" them to buy what I want to sell. I've heard Jordan say multiple times that he can "close" anyone who is "closable." I'm not comfortable with that and only want to work with people where it's a good fit for both of us.
@@DoubleStack agree, Jordan approach might defy ethics. On the contrary, you always come from an authenticity and servicial spot! That’s awesome. It’s just that it reminded me a little bit how allowing people to see a need (nicest fish) can help you sell the vessel to it (premium boat).
Thing is, I can't even attempt to help others find leads, if I myself have hard time finding leads. How to sell them the experience to the bay, if you yourself have a hardtime getting to the bay.
I have a question that may sound dumb if anyone can answer because I’m new to web development: once you create the website what exactly are you sending the client via email? A link, files etc? And in the future the want to update the website like add a new item or small changes do they have access to that or how is that gone about after the sale?
I recommend that you provide the hosting of the website in addition to designing/building the website. We host all of our websites on Flywheel - but there are bunch of great WordPress hosts. This gives you the ability to add recurring revenue to your business through hosting, maintenance, and support. Plus, anytime an update is needed, you already have access to everything. Lastly, most clients would have no idea how to take the "files" of a website and bring them to life on their own server. So, I recommend getting set up with a host you like such as Flywheel and offer web design + hosting (and eventually online marketing services too) all bundled together.
Thanks for checking out the video. Hopefully it will help you connect with some new local businesses and you can hook them up with nice lead-generating websites :)
Awesome! Thanks for watching and thanks for your comment :) I'm glad found my channel and are part of our community here! If there's anything I can do to support you in any way just let me know. I can even make a video for you about something you are working on in your business.
I understand the analogy but I feel like the information needed to actually help people sell websites was unclear. In my personal experience looking for website design companies was very difficult doing things on my own and I wish there were more helpful resources and tools out there to help small business owners get all the right tools needed to make their website successful.
As a newb I am curious on your view of the montly payment for the domain name and website builder; should you pay for those yourself, or get the client to pay for them?
I cover the cost of hosting, domain name renewals, and software licenses/renewals all as part of the project and ongoing retainer fees. That way the client just gets one bill and doesn't have to worry about anything. If the relationship ends for whatever reason, I remove my software licenses for the page builder and premium plugins. The site will continue to work but they'll have to buy their own licenses if they want to get software updates. Then I export/archive the WordPress site so they have everything they need if they ever wanted to re-launch the site with me or with someone else. One note about the domain name: When we reserve domain names, the client is listed as the registered owner and I am listed as the admin/technical contact. That way I have the ability to change the settings on the domain name if needed (like the DNS) but the client actually owns it.
Thank you! I'm glad you found the channel, and welcome to our community we're building here. If there's anything I can do to support you, just let me know.
@@DoubleStack thanks Lee. Loved the fish analogy. Subscribed to your channel. I do have one question: you recommend we look for leads that DO have a website that can be improved, rather than leads that DO NOT have a website according to maps, correct? All the best!
@@jennysquesttowellness yes, targeting businesses that already have a website is usually going to put you in front of clients with bigger budgets for marketing.
Hi, i'm willing to start selling some websites to small businesses. I already have some ideas on how to create and host websites and right now i am looking for a way to make clients pay for their domain, is there an easy way to do that?
Yes, because an "unprofessional" website diminishes the trust and authority of your business. Also a slow website with a poor mobile experience makes it virtually impossible to rank on Google. The truth is, however, most clients need much more than JUST a website. They also need a marketing plan. That's what DoubleStack is all about. Give the client the Tech Stack they need AND the Marketing Stack so they can get the RESULTS they are counting on you to deliver.
I have never used Elementor for any client sites so I don’t have any first hand experience. Kadence is my “go to” WordPress theme right now. I’ve head great results with Beaver Builder as well.
Don't jump ship. I just put together a new video workshop so you can see all the details of our most popular web design package. You'll see what we offer, how we price it, and even how we get clients. Check this out and let me know what you think. lee.blue/workshop/
can anyone tell me what other shops i should do, i have tried some barber shops and some kebab shops. They either had a good looking website or they dont need a website. please can someone tell me what other businesses to approach.
The best thing to do is to create categories of businesses/industries organized by the outcomes they need from their online marketing. There are four major outcomes to consider: 1. Traffic 2. Client Acquisition 3. Lead Nurturing 4. Client Retention Almost all businesses - especially B2C businesses - need the first two, but not everybody needs the second two. For example, a moving company doesn't really need much in the way of lead nurturing because I don't need to join someone's email list to know that I'm planning to move and I need help. They don't need much with client retention either because of the amount of time between moves. People might move ever 5-10 years, not every month. On the other hand, a chiropractor DOES need to put effort into BOTH lead nurturing and client retention. People need to learn how chiropractic care might help them. And, once they become a client, the chiropractor wants to retain them as long as possible. In Blue Theory, I've got all of this organized into six different groups (niche categories) so you know exactly which industries to target. My best advice is to join Blue Theory for at least a week so I can help you get all of this dialed in. There's a 7-day money-back guarantee so we can work together for a week to see what you think. If it's not for you, just let me know, and you'll get a full refund. If it is for you, then you'll be happily landing a bunch of new clients :) Lee.Blue/#join
There are some great options! I really like the Kadence WordPress theme that includes access to a wide range of "starter sites" and templates. You can see the Starter Templates here: www.kadencewp.com/kadence-theme/starter-templates/ (Some are free, and some require you to purchase Kadence Pro). The team behind Beaver Builder has recently launched Assistant Pro, where you can buy AND sell site templates. assistant.pro/ There are other resources as well, depending on what WordPress theme you want to use. For example, Divi has lots of templates available, including 3rd party template libraries.

You get some tax benefits and stuff if you decide to officially start a business, but you can sell websites without an official business - just as a normal person. People do that all the time.
Brad doesn't have the same anxieties that Paul has, so to assume that Brad would be sitting in the same spot as Paul if he had a boat as nice as Paul's does not seem plausible. Paul is missing money. Brad is missing courage. I would ask Brad to rent his boat to Paul and get Paul to fish the rockfish that Brad is missing out on. I'll take a finders fee.
I personally would not target real estate agents, especially right now with the declining real estate market. It's very hard to get real estate leads with organic digital marketing. Facebook ads tend to be the best thing going for a paid traffic strategy. Real estate is a completely different niche because of how unique their needs are and how much of the industry is based on relationships (rather than digital marketing).
To sell someone at website that doesnt come with a monthly cost (shopify, wix etc.) would I have to build a site completelt from scratch or how would that work?
I always like to make sure clients get both a website and a marketing plan. The marketing plan is really where I put the emphasis. But, in order for the marketing plan to work, we need to make sure they also have a professional website. So, if it was me, I'd ALWAYS make sure the client was on at least a basic monthly plan that included hosting/maintenance and marketing because that's where the results come from for the client and it also more than triples the revenue you make as well.
I'm so confused, woman or man, oculus or reality, utter confusion, genius or ADD, playing records or blue tooth. Killer or helper, de cafe or caffeinated 😂😅😢😮
Hey, Tim. Can you elaborate a little about why you think this is bad advice? My intent with this video is to help web designers discover a way to communicate their value in a way that makes it easier for their clients to understand that the goal is not just to get a website but to also get results from the overall online marketing package. There are a lot of web designers who are great at web design but haven't had a lot of experience yet selling their own work. It's cool if we disagree. I'm just trying to see where we disagree so I can learn from your perspective.
