Thanks for the easy-to-follow video - will definitely be doing this with my dropper soon. Currently on my second Ascend, with the first one's cartridge completely failing (going down when you sit on it and up when you get off it) in three months, and this second one requiring all my strength to push down. They don't seem the most reliable post, but maybe it's just my luck. Would definitely go PNW instead in future.
Great vid👌i noticed just under the seat clamp the collar on mine came a smidge loose, so i just done it up hand tight, haven't had any problems🤔the bushing seems to be still intact?
Hi, great video. I will try this myself. Could you make a video on how to service Specializedo "egg beater" Command Post IRcc, 12 position micro-height adjustable, alien head design, bottom mount cable routing, remote adjust SRL lever, 30.9mm, 125mm travel. If you don't have any in stick I could send you mine. The problem with this post is that after 2 months of service it ejected the main sealing gasket while it was pressed down and left in that position during the ride in the back of my car. Service dude said he installed new service kit parts.
You’ll want the oversized keyway pin kit to sort the lateral play, it comes with two sets of different sized pins, try the smaller ones first 👍🏼 Probably a good idea to get a service kit and replace the seals etc at the same time if you have the post apart.
Hi, I have a onoff Pija with the same gas cartridge inside and it's supposed to be 125mm but 4 years after the cartridge only extends 8cm ( it works perfectly and I can even hear the full extension bottoming out click) do you know some way to fix this? Or it's new cartridge time? Thanks
Very hard to say to be fair. Usually if the cartridge has a problem it will either be losing air (which makes it become slower to return) or it'll have an issue staying in one place (which means it wont stay up when you sit on it and will come up by itself when you put it down). I'd be inclined to take it apart and see what's going on inside as there may be something that has moved and is limiting it's travel.
@@rpbiketech yeah, but it's a sealed cartridge and no service can be done, I tried pulling it out and rotating it without any success.. When desingage the bottom mechanism that conects the cartridge to the dropper itself the dropper is able to smoothly fully extend to 125mm. New cartridge or new dropper time I guess.. Thank you for your information
Nice, helpful video. Is it the mk1 or mk2 version? Mine also has a little piece of string attached to the bottom part (actuator?). You mentioned replacing the cartridge. My post does return when I compress it by hand, but when I push then release the lever (with the cable still attached to the post), the post doesn't stay down. Any ideas about that?
This is for the V2, the easiest distinguishing feature it that the V2 has a much smaller collar (where the seal sits) that has grooves around it. The V1 has a bigger and smooth collar. If the post doesn’t come up when you have pushed it down by manually pressing the actuator (without the cable attached) but comes back up on its own with the cable attached then it’s most likely a cable issue, try replacing the inner and outer cable. Hopefully this helps.
The brand x dropper service kits are sold out everything at the moment. Is the pro koryak service kit compatible? Looks identical to what I’ve seen from my post and your video.
Honestly couldn’t say exactly but if they look the same then they most likely are. The brand X post is definitely rebranded as others by various brands.
@@rpbiketech bit the bullet and bought one, will reply in a week or so when it’s arrived and installed for future reference to anyone else. Knowing my luck it’ll be a few mills out and/or the brand x one will be back in stock!
@@simongadient2726 still waiting on the postman, will reply as soon as I have an answer for you Bought the koryak post service kit, looks identical to the band x one and from what I’ve researched they are both rebrands from the same factory so I don’t see why they wouldn’t be compatible. Time will tell
@@simongadient2726 went smooth until I misaligned one of the brass fittings and now the post is stuck in the outer tube. Assuming you’re not a caveman like me, it should work fine. Most posts are from the same factory with different branding anyways, so as long as the service kit looks the same you should be good to go
You will generally have an element of side to side play in most posts due to them running on brass keys which need a bit of play to be able to let the post move up and down freely. With the cheaper posts you may find that they have more play than the more expensive ones due to the lower tolerances but it’s rarely anything to worry about. Just keep an eye on it and maybe pop into a bike shop to get someone to have a look at it if you’re worried.
Apologies! I thought the was the OneUp video! The Brad X posts are a fixed travel so you’d have to replace the post. You mag find that the next longest brand x could be too long overall though so I’d generally point you towards a OneUp post as they are usually the same length for a longer drop so day a 150mm travel brand X would be the same rough overall length as the 180mm travel OneUp. Hope this helps!
Hmm, you could possibly try heating or freezing to see if that breaks the bond or some sort of penetrating fluid. Locking mole grips will probably be helpful too, if you didn’t want to mark the post then you my be able to use a seatpost shim around the post and then clamp the shim with the mole grips and hitch should hopefully give you enough clamping force to be able to undo the actuator with a spanner or adjustable wrench of some sort🤞🏼 Let me know how you get on.
It’s could definitely help, make sure to get hold of a service kit to give it the best chance but it could also be the cartridge losing air so that may need to be replaced too.
Most droppers have an element of side to side play which will increase with general wear and tear. When servicing you replace the brass keys which should reduce the amount of play somewhat.
It depends slightly on the era of the post but it should be this: www.chainreactioncycles.com/mobile/brand-x-ascend-dropper-seatpost-maintenance-kit/rp-prod200307
